Sen. Richard Blumenthal asserted that former acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan was potentially involved in a criminal cover-up for failing to disclose an alleged domestic violence incident before his nomination as the permanent secretary of defense. "I feel that there was possibly a deliberate concealment here," Blumenthal said Tuesday after Shanahan resigned when it was revealed that he was involved in a 2010 violent domestic dispute with his ex-wife. Shanahan is now a private citizen and there is nothing to investigate as apparently he was never arrested or convicted of a criminal offense that was withheld from Congress. Blumenthal should calm down and take his constituents on a tour of the battlefields where he fought so gallantly in Vietnam!

A series of polls show President Donald Trump has improved his standing in several key Rust Belt states ahead of the 2020 presidential election. Firehouse Strategies released surveys of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania on Tuesday indicating Trump is holding his own when matched against several of his potential Democrat opponents. These three states were key to President Trump’s victory in 2016. If Trump had lost each of them, he would not have had more than 270 electoral votes and would not have won the presidency.

Former Vice President Joe Biden praised two arch segregationists that he served with in the Senate Democrat Conference for their “civility” on Tuesday. Biden, the current 2020 Democrat front runner, told a group of donors gathered for a fundraiser at the Carlyle Hotel in New York City it was vital the next president “be able to reach consensus under our system.” To explain why he was the best candidate in that regard, Biden fondly cited his history of working with two of the Senate’s arch segregationists, the late-Sens. And it is one that the West is not only morally obligated to pay, but one that it should look forward to paying.

The lack of energy has created a sense of bafflement and disappointment among some of the president's most determined adversaries. But there are some simple reasons for it. Here are three: 1.) The facts are different. In Watergate, the underlying crime was a break-in at Democratic National Committee headquarters, perpetrated by burglars paid by President Richard Nixon's reelection campaign. The scandal proceeded from there. In Trump-Russia, the underlying crime was the hacking of the DNC's and John Podesta's emails — a crime committed by Russians in Russia.
