The Pathetic Joe Biden

I suppose the headline for this entry might need to become a regular Power Line series between now and election day. It was as predictable as the sunrise that Biden’s long-time support of the Hyde Amendment, which bans federal funding for elective abortion, would crumple under pressure from the Abortion Absolutists who now control Democratic Party dogma. I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised that he crumpled so quickly. Get used to this. But I suppose that when you’re as wrinkled up as Joe is now, it is less noticeable when he crumples up under political pressure. I’m not in the habit of correcting the staff here, but I have to say that Joe has NEVER been a viable candidate. On his own running for president, he never received more than 8% of the vote in any primary. He had to attach himself to the “Magic Negro” or go home.

The good part will be when Biden is asked to somehow explain his conversion, his evolving position, the getting his mind right on the issue of taxpayer funded abortions. “C’mom, man (or sweetie), things change. We have to be willing to progress, to move forward.” Joe’s staff will think of something hollow and meaningless like that for him to memorize and repeat.

Joe is fishing for Leftist voters but as he moves to catch them he is going to find he has lost the people he needs to win the general election. The simple reality is that the Left does not represent America, no matter how much noise they make. The Left DOES own around half of dem voters, the energy of the party, and a lot of its funding. Dems are in a catch 22. The only candidate that can win their primary is probably a Leftist. The only candidate that can win the general election is NOT a Leftist. One truth is probably certain. Their primary winner will be disingenuous at best and probably a liar. They will either be a Leftist pretending to be centrist or a semi centrist pretending to be a Leftist.

Let's be honest. Joe is a political hack who has been running for president since the dawn of time. He is consistently wrong on the issues, plagiarizes other politicians, had weird hair plugs installed and looks like he has had some bad eye work. Compared with Trump he looks like he's 80 while Trump looks like he's 60. His son's dealings with China are almost surely dirty. Joe's principal accomplishment has been to scuttle Judge Bork and be a part of either the worst or second-worst administration in history. If this is the leader of the dims' pack, God help the republic.

Which ever way the wind blows. So true. Joe doesn't stand for anything. Not much motivates him except his more baser instincts. Hence Joe sniffing women's hair. He's also a plagiarizer. Since he doesn't stand for anything, he has no words, and has to steal from others. The people behind the Democrats want hardcore committed lefties. That's not Joe. In comparison, Obama was a true believer. Always wondered why Obama selected Biden for VP. Since Biden never stood for anything, he would go along with whatever Obama did. No danger of disagreements. No danger of differences on policies since Biden doesn't really care. All that remained are personal scandals, but they would never reach to Obama. If Biden got caught, they could be ignored by the media. Waffling on the Hyde amendment shows Joe is weak as well as slow. Biden's run for President may well be over, but he was always a weak candidate. He never performed well on the national stage. He did well in Delaware, but that is probably because of local contacts more than anything.

Peel away all the aggressive braggadocio and you'll see that the Dems are desperate. They KNOW that none of the other klownkar acts has a chance against Trump, and so they reflexively looked to Biden as some sort of Elder Statesman. And of course the botoxed empty suit exposes his true nature at every turn. The red meat, frothing at the mouth Dems will not be even remotely satisfied with Biden, but they also know they have no realistic alternative. We may have some good times ahead - Lord knows we've earned 'em.

The Pentagon is suspending its training program for Turkish pilots learning to fly the advanced F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, ordering the roughly 40 trainees to leave the U.S. by the end of July. Acting Defense Secretary Patrick M. Shanahan made the order on the training program and the decision to expel the Turkish pilots this week. In a letter to Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, Mr. Shanahan said all Turkish military personnel tied to the program would have their travel orders to the U.S. rescinded and be denied access to U.S. military facilities after July 31. “This is a disciplined and graceful wind down” of Turkey’s participation in the international fighter program,

That, too, was bad, and as the headlines linked in my prior post indicate, that definitely was due to climate change. Beaches have shrunk, while water has inundated docks and destroyed roads. *** A combination of major winter snowfalls…

So Democrats finally formally introduced what they’ve been threatening to introduce for weeks now: their latest lame-road attempt to derail President Donald Trump’s presidency. They call it a contempt resolution. It’s aimed at holding Attorney General William Barr and ex-White House counsel Don McGahn in contempt of Congress for failing to turn over documents that would put Barr in violation of the law — the full, unredacted findings of special counsel Robert Mueller, the ones that contain protected grand jury statements. The nerve of this Barr, denying Democrats the right to accuse him of violating grand jury testimony rules.

The big border headline this week was that U.S. authorities arrested or turned away more than 144,000 people at the southwest border in May, including more than 100,000 family units and children, far exceeding previous monthly totals this year and putting us on pace for illegal immigration levels not seen in 13 years. The U.S. Border Patrol apprehended on average 4,200 people a day last month and now has more than 19,000 people in custody. These numbers tell us the migrant crisis is deepening, despite efforts by the Trump administration and the Mexican government to contain it. But beyond the numbers is something yet more disturbing, a reality not often reflected

Democratic presidential candidate and California Sen. Kamala Harris has said that if she’s elected, she would issue an executive order to rescind hard-won worker freedom. Maybe it’s a “California value” to support conscripted unionism. But before Harris’ position becomes too hardened to walk back, she should consider how reforms would benefit workers in her home state. At a recent union event in Las Vegas, Harris said part of the job of being president is “to speak up about the needs and the rights of workers,” and their ability “to organize and fight for their rights … It has to be about banning right-to-work laws.”

Joe Biden was in the car on the way to a Democratic gala in Atlanta on Thursday night when he turned to an aide and asked for a pen. The former vice president began scrawling his evolving thoughts on the Hyde Amendment, preparing to make one of the biggest shifts of his 2020 presidential campaign. Later that night, reading from those notes and diverting from the prepared teleprompter text, he would reverse a position he had held for nearly four decades and for the first time call for repealing the federal law that sharply restricts the use of taxpayer money for abortion. One of the dumber responses to HBO’s just-completed Chernobyl miniseries — discussed by Kyle Smith on the homepage today – is that somehow it’s unfairly picking on the Soviet Union. “Where’s the miniseries about Three Mile Island? Where’s the miniseries about Fukushima?” This argument amounts to, “I’ve heard about two other nuclear power plant disasters, thus all three must be the same.” As I wrote back in February, even a cursory study shows the three situations were all different. The partial meltdown and radiation leak at Three Mile Island in 1979 was serious — but the public was informed quickly, if not terribly clearly. Three Mile Island forever tainted the image

For years, the liberal foreign policy establishment presented Americans with a false choice on Iran: surrender or war. President Trump has proved that binary to be a fantasy, squeezing and deterring the Iranians without full-on confrontation. “When I became president, Iran was a true state of terror,” Trump said in France this week. Now, “they are failing as a nation.” Not that his critics give him credit — or room to maneuver. As The Daily Beast reported last week, alumni of the Obama administration have been secretly in touch with the Iranians — no doubt to reassure the mullahs that if they wait out Trump, their fortunes will turn.

The 2020 election is lurching toward us like a malfunctioning robot, and I think we must ask ourselves: Can we risk nominating a man for president? Men selected as major-party nominees for president have failed to win the popular vote 50 percent of the time. Contrast that to the 100 percent of the time that a female nominee for president has won the popular vote. More importantly, are Americans ready to withstand another four years of male presidency? It is unpleasant to traffic in stereotypes, and many men are in no way like this, but recent experience teaches that for usually 31 days a month (sometimes 30, occasionally 28),

The insurer that covers Oberlin College for liability, Lexington Insurance Company, filed documents with court last month indicating that its umbrella liability policy would not cover costs of any judgment for the plaintiffs. That means that if, after the appeals process has run its course, the plaintiffs move to collect the $11 million a jury just awarded them (plus whatever punitive damages – up to $22 more – are awarded next week), Lexington likely won’t pay and Oberlin would have to sue for reimbursement.
