Deep State: First, the attempted coup.

Most people don't quite know what to make of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's alarm about Manhattan prosecutors' decision to throw President Trump's former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, into Rikers Island prison. It was an unprecedented move. Yet she's hardly a supporter of people connected to President Trump - she actually wants the president impeached. But she's right about what she's reading: And she didn't back down, either. She gets a day off the idiot list for this principled political opposition. And whether she knows it or not, she's taking on a very sick political situation quite correctly.

Comments:

Deep state will stop at nothing. Even Ocasio gets one right on it.

Just the threat of going to Rikers is bad enough, much less actually situating Manafort there. Beyond cruel, beyond inhumane, beyond justice applied. Rudolph Hess was treated better!!

The best option is still secession. There is no putting the toothpaste back in the cultural tube. That ship has sailed, that train left the station, and other metaphors. There is no longer compromise: Liberals and Conservatives, Democrats and Republicans (with some notable traitorous exceptions), people of faith and atheists/humanists, Left and Right....all have diametrically opposite worldviews. You cannot fix that. You have to defeat it. If you can't defeat it, split the baby down the middle and let us go our separate ways in peace.

Solitary confinement is cruel and unusual punishment and should be outlawed except for punishment of infractions of jail discipline and rules. To sentence someone to it ahead of time is awful.

She knows (but as does everyone) that the so-called "moderate" Obama/Clinton Democrats are the Spygate criminals, so distancing her radical wing from them in this way would be a smart move, with or without the extra brownie points from the Right. In any event, it is good to see the Dims splitting - it indicates that enough of them are sick of the charade and are ready to come out as the full-blown socialists they've always dreamed of being.

Nobody had heard of Vince Foster until his demise. Because Manafort is already a public figure he was sent to Rikers instead of Ft Marcy Park. ( Note to Chris Steele: get a food taster and a personal body guard)

How a Post-Civil War Supreme Court

Introduction Shortly after the Civil War and the passage of the 14th Amendment, the US Supreme Court decided the Slaughter-House cases. Historically, many people have looked at these decisions as severely limiting the ability of the federal government and federal courts from interfering with state government functions by using the Privileges and Immunities clause of the 14th Amendment. Regardless of your position on that debate, this article looks at how the decision by Justice Miller in 1873 actually provides a strong precedent for using the Privileges and Immunities clause of the 14th Amendment against all sanctuary states, counties, and cities. Risky as President Trump's tariff threat tactic on Mexico is, it appears to be ... working. Trump's hardball measures have gotten Mexico to deploy some serious measures to keep the migrant surge into the U.S. from becoming a flood. Somehow, a trade treaty works best when there's a security treaty underlying it, and Mexico thus far seems to recognize this. The markets, by the way, are noticing. According to Fox News: Reports in the evening indicated that Mexico's negotiators with Washington have offered to immediately deploy 6,000 National Guard troops to the border with Guatemala.

No wonder Robert Mueller does not want to testify before any congressional committees. The Special Counsel Report that bears his name (that many observers theorize was actually supervised by Andrew Weissman, who has a track record of deceptive practices causing his politically-charged convictions to be overturned) has been exposed as omitting key information to create false impressions of wrong-doing among the public. It joins the Steele Dossier in ignominy as vile propaganda, and part of the greatest political scandal in American history – the concerted effort of unelected law enforcement and intelligence bureaucrats to determine the results of an election,

CHICAGO (CBS) — The Crete Township victim found dead in the trunk of a car Monday morning likely saved his wife’s life by helping her escape the trunk where their attackers left them, according to the Will County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were called to Francisco Aranda’s home Monday morning when he and his wife didn’t report for work. They found his 59-year-old wife in the back seat of their car in the attached garage with her hands tightly bound. She said her husband was in the trunk.

To the shouts of "Si, se puede!" House Democrats voted Tuesday to hand out an unconditional amnesty to more than 2 million illegal immigrants brought here as old as age 15 as well as two other migrant categories, sending a message abroad that the border's open and path to the citizenship comes free. That's some message to send during an ongoing border surge. According to The Hill: The Democratic-led chamber passed the Dream and Promise Act in a largely party line 237-187 vote, with seven Republicans joining all Democrats in voting for the bill.
Donald Trump has Mexico over a barrel 10 replies

Mexico is going to cave, and it's not just the tariffs. We've got the Mexicans over a barrel on energy, and if we want, we can wipe their economy out. Without American energy imports, the Mexican economy collapses. This actually doesn't make any sense. Mexico is awash in petroleum and natural gas. But the Mexicans just can't get it out of the ground. American petroleum engineers were critical to the early success of the Mexican oil industry. From 1918 to the late '20s, Mexico was second only to the United States in oil production, and it was number one in petroleum exports.

Conditioned responses are funny things. One of them, the statement that they're "probably all nice people" — oft used when discussing illegal migrants — is also a dangerous thing. That very line was uttered, reflexively, by Fox News pundit Tucker Carlson Monday night while discussing how one percent of Guatemalans have left for our country in just the last year. It's a qualifier reflecting that one has been put on the defensive — in a losing position. No, this isn't an attack on Carlson, who's the best mainstream cable news and commentary host in the business. Rather, it's a cautionary tale:

Elizabeth Warren describes her “Plan for Economic Patriotism,” which she released on Tuesday, as a bold departure from the past. “It’s time to reject the excuses we’ve heard for decades about why we can’t do more to health American workers,” she says in the document. Warren and her team appear to have been asleep for the past two years. How else to explain the fact that her plan completely ignores the substantial progress on jobs, wages and economic growth under President Trump, much less the reason behind these gains? Warren, for example, complains about jobs lost overseas and stagnant wages,

Here's a screenshot of a shareable Instagram post of the mural: The local Hawaiian press, Hawaii News Now, had a small news item around the state-financed mural's opening in its May 17 issue, depicting a generic-looking Venice Beach–style wallscape. Earlier this month, San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to order every store in the city to accept cash. It seems that some innovative companies were experimenting with cashless stores as a way to cut costs, improve efficiency and keep prices down. But in progressive San Francisco, that kind of progress cannot be tolerated. Democrat-controlled Philadelphia imposed a similar ban on cashless stores in March. That same month, New Jersey’s Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy signed a law banning cashless stores throughout the Garden State.

When I was a little girl around the age of 7 in the late 1960s, the most exciting thing in the world was to persuade my parents to take me and my sisters to Sharp Hospital, up the road from where I lived in San Diego, to go see the newborn babies through the hospital window. In my little-kid mind, two things were must-sees - the giant statue of the stork carrying a baby at the entrance, and from the baby window with all the newborn babies, finding the babies in the incubators, marveling at how tiny they were in their oversized diapers
