California has morphed from paradise into a garbage state run by garbage people for their own garbage benefit and amusement. The “garbage” part is literal – once the Sierra Nevada mountains symbolized the state; now, towering heaps of trash and human waste do. Welcome to what the Democrats want for all of America. Just watch your step. Literally. If it were not for the climate, something the liberals in charge of my state have nothing to do with as much as they think they do, it would likely be a nearly empty desert once again. But the sun shines, the beach beckons and the palm trees sway

He's not exaggerating. Drive through downtown San Diego. Los Angeles and San Francisco are much worse. Especially LA.
The City that never sweeps.

California has the good fortune of putting a lot of the things that allowed it to be what it is, many years ago, before the current group running it were in place, and would not have allowed the dams, the freeway system, the oil drilling, etc...
California enjoyed a huge defense industry that created large numbers of good middle-class jobs, but those jobs are all gone.
California has Prop. 13, which fixes your property taxes to 1% of the purchase price of your home, with only 2% increase allowed in any year. Thus, you don't get priced out of your home by taxes when you get older.
Today's Democrats are trying to undo this, which would affect millions of people who were able to stay in their homes into retirement.

And on top of all of this - the cable systems, the newspapers, the radio stations, the politicians - all limit the "point of view" the citizens receive. We spent the summer here and it is astounding what people don't know and the information that is apparently censored. Downtown SD is a mess. Hundreds of millions were invested 15 years ago and it is depreciating rapidly - dirty, smelly streets, homeless, disease, empty buildings - feels 3rd world. If they touch Prop 13, it will be absolute chaos. No, it's already there.

The Sierras still symbolize the state, at least in the north. As I have mentioned, I am a native thanks to dad being stationed at Coronado North Island NAS. I live on the western slope of the Sierras and they are still magnificent. You couldn't pay me to come down of the mountain since I retired for a second time. We did not ask for the influx of those from other states to invade bringing their insane dreck with them. The majority of us are in the north state and do not tolerate the crap from Sacramento. We just ignore it for it's all we can do. I pray eventually the commies will grow weary and go back from whence they came.
Support the State of Jefferson. Let LA get their own water and leave us the heck alone.

How ironic. The Democratic Party is the party of environmentalism. Instead they are creating garbage dump cities. The left wants to make everybody equal. To do that, they have to reduce everybody to what exists on the lowest rung of the economic ladder (the lowest common denominator). In California, that is the homeless person living in garbage, filth, and squalor.

FTA--"Well, when that modest ranch style you bought for $100,000 in 1985 gets reassessed to its current $1,000,000 value (something Prop 13 prevents), and the 1% Prop 13 tax rate goes to 3% or 4%, your tax bill goes from $1,000 a year to $30,000-$40,000.
So if it were not for Prop 13, this would be the case. It may be beautiful, but I don't know how anyone can afford to live there. The walls are closing in though, stuff like this is being proposed across the country in liberal enclaves. We are "stuck" in MN where the enviro-whackos are out of control, our electric bill has skyrocketed. I despise these people, it is all intentional, they do not want the masses to have any property or wealth so they don't have any power.

As a native Texan and patriotic American, I ask our brother and sisters of California to not be offended by Schlichter's labeling California a "garbage state." I'm sure he referring to the "state" as a government/political entity and not to the beautiful, fascinating geography, physiography, and populations of good folks of California. Due to creeping progressivism, this condition is becoming much the same across the US, including growing pockets of insanity in Texas, starting with Austin.
