How to know if you're really a socialist

Original Article

Posted By: Moritz55, 5/31/2019 9:21:22 AM

Are you a socialist? Quick! Spit it out. Yes or no. No looking it up in Merriam-Webster. No phoning a friend. Socialism and you: yay or nay? Ever since I visited Cuba last November, I've realized this is a question I am ill-equipped to answer at gunpoint. I'm speaking metaphorically of course. The country has a notoriously low crime rate. Prior to my trip, socialism had evoked pleasant associations. Health care for all. Paid parental leave. A fair rental market. The kinds of things you'd have to be a bit weird to dislike. Now I also see an old woman queueing up in a supermarket with a ration book.

Comments:

The author is by no means a conservative or even a moderate, but the article is interesting for that very reason.

If you're a Dem politician and get your own set of rules whilst running things you're a socialist. If you're one of their servants, you're not. Problem arises because the socialists are running things and you're NOT.

Low crime in Cuba except within the government. All other criminals are executed. We have a "fair" rental market here too. The unemployed parasites get free subsidized rent, the "rich" get to pay four grand a month for an apartment. As for Cuban health care, it's great if you believe in Santeria. The best thing ever in Cuba, everybody has access to 1950s classic cars. It's paradise!

fta:When I suggested this to my Cuban guide, he laughed into his rum. "Sweden's not socialist!" he said indignantly. "They have private enterprise!" On some scales Sweden ranks as less Socialist than the US. John Stossel wrote an article for Reason in January of this year on this very topic. Bernie likes to hold them up as paragons of Socialism. Truth is they privatized many of their social programs so they would stay solvent and to encourage competition.

The problem with Lo-FOs like AOC and most do Gooder college profs is they paint a nice Kumbula portrait. The countries they always use as examples are Sweden, Norway and such. The population of these countries would not even equal the suburbs of a single US city. For the most part and up until the recent invasion of middle easterners these countries population consist of a people that have lived and worked together for a thousand years. Sweds live in Sweden and Fins live in Finland. Once outsiders with no interest in the new country overtake a country it will go to hell in a hand basket. I perfect socialist single party country candidates exist fairly good for a while, but sooner or later a despot will get power and it reverts to a dictortatorship. The constitution of the USA if followed, prevents this from happening. Even here we came pretty close to losing our two party system along with its checks and balance.

Sorry for the jab #4 but if you think 1950's cars are a sign of paradise? They ran. Period. They didn't turn very well. They didn't stop very well. They didn't accelerate very well. Their seating was uncomfortable. and if you ran into a tree you got a steering column through the chest. I figure the Cubans can keep the lot of them.

Let's start with her own notions of "How to know if you're really a Socialist": 1. Health care for all - check if yes. 2. Paid parental leave - check if yes. 3. A "fair" rental market - a very tricky criterion. If left undefined, check yes.

Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Thursday she didn't need to a "ton of circling back" with reporters because of the access afforded her by former President Donald Trump, in a reference to successor Jen Psaki's go-to line when she can't directly answer questions. Reacting to a "Fox & Friends" montage of Psaki saying she would "circle back" with various reporters during her six weeks with the Biden White House, McEnany said she had the advantage of knowing where Trump stood on issues. "I wish Jen Psaki all the best, it is a very hard job but that being said, we took great pains in our administration

In 2012, Attorney General Eric Holder appeared before at Northwestern University Law School to announce President Obama’s “kill list” policy, under which he reserved the right to unilaterally order the death of any American deemed an imminent threat. After all, Holder explained, “the Constitution guarantees due process, not judicial process.” The response was as chilling as the message: The audience of judges, lawyers and law students applauded an attorney general who just told them that any of them could be killed tomorrow on the president’s order. Some of us denounced the "kill list" policy, which foreshadowed what has become a campaign against due process.

William F. Buckley was one of the great conservatives of the 20th century — a voice that articulated, remarkably well, the values of conservatism. As he declared about the magazine he founded, National Review, "It stands athwart history, yelling Stop, at a time when no other is inclined to do so, or to have much patience with those who so urge it." But what Rush Limbaugh did was bring that message to millions. And not just the message — he brought both comedy and empathy to the message. He brought joy to it. I’m probably second to none in my dislike for Meghan Markle. There’s something unattractive about a mature woman marrying into the British Royal family with one of the world’s most expensive weddings, hanging out with the Queen, living in insane luxury…and then whining non-stop about the horror of her life. There’s something even less appealing when that woman accuses the Royal family of race hatred. And the problem is that, when it comes to that left-wing diva, Meghan Markle, it’s hard to believe most of what she says. After weeks of hype, CBS finally televised Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah.
