Pope Francis addressed participants at a Vatican conference on Thursday and denounced a trend toward nationalism that entails “excessive demands for sovereignty.” “The common good has become global and nations must associate,” the pope told members of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences who gathered for their annual meeting, entitled “Nation, State, Nation-State.” “Unfortunately, we have before our eyes situations in which some nation states carry out their relations in a spirit of opposition rather than cooperation,” the pontiff said. Many tensions come “from an excessive demand for sovereignty on the part of States, often precisely in areas where they

The Pope is considered by Catholics to be infallible with regard to faith and morality.
He should stay away from everything else. Every time he opens his mouth, he puts his foot in it.

Would someone please let the Pope know that the USA does not stop immigration...there is a legal way to join and assimilate. However, it is foolish to give into INVASION.

The Holy Father´s meaning is quite clear. Immigration laws that look out for the interests of the American people (which is their explicit intention) are ´excessive demands´. Opening borders and the benefits of the welfare state to the world is ´the spirit of cooperation´. No confusion there.

#1 It´s my opinion that this pope has no faith or morality. Communists usually don´t.

This pope compared to Pope John Paul ll is
night and day difference in all things.
I sincerely wish he would retire and go away. He is doing The Church more harm than good.

Satan has infiltrated the Vatican as far as this Catholic is concerned!

The Roman Catholic Church has been and is corrupt with it´s culture of pedophile priests and funds beholden to the Rothschild crime/banking family. This pope is making this corruption well known to all who have been blinded by dogma. Leave the church and recommit to Jesus Christ as Lord & Savior! WWG1WGA! MAGA!

The Vatican is its own sovereign country. Why isn’t he demanding that his own sovereign nation open its own borders (walls)?

Pope Biden strikes again. However, the Church will survive him, and the gay pedophile scandals. She is not alone in current and historical abuses; she is merely the biggest target. I will still attend mass, and receive the Body & Blood of Christ on a regular basis. I have no need to leave the Church to recommit. I am already there.

Trying to address Central America’s problems with massive migration is like treating cancer with aspirin, it does not address the root cause. There is no reason these countries cannot have vibrant economies like ours. Economic and political freedom, property rights and the rule of law work every time. But Francis doesn’t seem to mind all the other countries being ruled by tin pot socialist dictators.

This guy is probably the biggest hypocrite ever selected to be pope. Give up your sovereignty first pope if it is so bad a thing for nations to have. Not a catholic, but the only pope I consider the pope is Benedict. This Jesuit serves another master, which is not Godly.

So Pope Francis is against national sovereignty? Benito Mussolini and Pope Pius XI agreed through one of the Lateran Treaties to give Vatican City sovereignty as an independent nation in return for the Vatican giving up its claim to the Papal States. Italy, through Mussolini, gave the land for the Vatican, and the sovereign nation of Vatican City was established.
One of the conditions promised by Pope Pius XI? That going forward, all popes would remain neutral in politics and wars. It appears that Pope Francis has forgotten that promise.

If only he was correct. Unfortunately national integrity is being diminished with mistakes such as the EU. Small, homogeneous states function best.

I will agree on this with Pope Francis when he opens up Vatican City to any and all, and provides total services -- food, medical, housing, etc. -- to any and all immigrants.
Lead, Holy Father, and we will follow . . .

I am a Catholic and have Absolut Zero respect for this man. Pope John Paul actively engaged in worldly matters, and was a real force in freeing eastern Europe from communist tyranny.
This clown Bergoglio peddles know-nothing, destructive socio-mush and counts on the leftist western media to pass him off as a great statesman.
OK, so he hasn´t trifled with basic doctrines of faith and morals. But I believe that he WANTS TO, and that is not the way an average Catholic should have to view the Vicar of Christ.
Have the decency to get off the stage, Bergoglio (yeah, I know - good luck with that).

This pope should stop his political rubbish. Either he is flapping his mouth about climate, or politics, or immigrants, or borders.... strange that the liar live in a very comfortable, isolated little city within Rome. Dirt does not touch him, let others deal with it. He wants globalism so badly it is a wonder that he continues to live in the Vatican palace! Hypocrite! Let´s pray that they will throw him out!
