Hamburg, Germany - Back in the 1980s, a cousin on my father’s side gave me a memorable lesson in socialism. (Snip) Forget the wannabe socialism of American Democrats like Bernie Sanders or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The 29-year-old Mr. Kühnert is aiming for the real thing. Socialism, he says, means democratic control over the economy. He wants to replace capitalism as such, not just to recalibrate it. In the United States, policies frequently branded as “socialist” — health care for all, a national minimum wage, and tuition-free universities — have very little to do with actual socialism. Big government, yes — but all of them fit

It´s the current generation. They were raised not having to work for anything. They all got "participation trophies" instead of having winners and losers. And they have been protected from mean words and criticism since they were born. This is the most unprepared for adult life generation ever!!!!
So now they want the government to take care of them just like mommy and daddy did while they were growing up. That is the appeal of what they perceive as "socialism"!!!
They in for a very rude awakening if they get what they are asking for!!!!!

Remember, no one gets ahead, or is able to move up in socialist societies, except the ruling party members and a few favored businesses.
Everyone else is relegated to living on crumbs and just getting by.
Then, remind everyone of how wonderful those state-run hospitals are, or the VA is, how functional the DMV operates.
And ask why you are running towards those options when better is available/possible?

They don´t have to pay taxes! Or they do not understand that they are paying for all the "free" stuff. Over 50% Americans when asked what they paid in taxes, answered " Nothing, I got a refund". They have no clue.

Because they are full of IMMIGRANTS who need free stuff that the Germans can afford by taxing rich Americans.

Germany has messed up their society so badly in the last five years that it no longer matters what kind of government they have.

Given a choice between Capitalism or Socialism most will choose socialism.

Because they welcomed the infection into their country when they rejoined with East Germany, where everyone had been indoctrinated from birth in communism.

Why? Because communist Merkel is running the show and she wants to start out at the basic level, socialism, then move on to fascism, before Germany can be declared just another communist satellite of Russia.

I tend to agree with #7 but with this twist:
Given the choice between that which capitalism promises and what socialism promises, people will choose socialism. Given complete and truthful information regarding the two systems people will choose capitalism.
Do you want to live in a land of opportunity and through hard work, rise to a good comfortable standard of living or do you want to have that comfortable life without the inconvenience of working for it? In the absence of the grave markers, shattered lives and starvation, door #2 can seem quite compelling.

#7, here´s the difference:
Under capitalism, one can be a socialist. Under socialism, there is no choice.

I hate to tell you, but with the Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC) that statement could be true.

Disband NATO and let the Russians invade and bring in some free markets.

An absurd article, of course printed by the New York Times, about a wannabe German millennial who mirrors our own lazy youth today. He doesn´t want to achieve anything more than take control of what others have obtained by their hard work and goals. Send him to a "concentration" camp where he truly is equal to everyone else. That´s where this smug jackass thinks he´ll be the future Col. Klink. More birdcage liner. Bueller?
