In the summer of 1947, the British lord and lawyer Sir Cyril Radcliffe found himself in charge of the fate of a subcontinent. As the freshly appointed head of the Boundary Commission, he was tasked with dividing up the British India territories of Bengal and Punjab—and he had just a few weeks to complete the task. After three and a half centuries of brutal and exploitative involvement in the region, the last 90 years as official imperial overlord of the British Raj, the United Kingdom was officially abdicating colonial rule. Deeply in debt from two world wars,

The Dems are for open borders even though they don’t know exactly who the people are that are sneaking in.

What a plodding, mundane, and factually-challenged article this was. FTA: ´there is nothing natural, inevitable, or immutable about the nation-state,´ Oh, really? Then why do we bother standing for the Anthem or fighting Nazis and Commies for the last 100 years? ´..even the earliest walls, such as the Great Wall of China or the walls of early Sumerian city-states, were more to keep tax-paying citizens in than to keep anybody out,´ I guess John never heard of Genghis Khan or the Mongols before.
I pretty much stopped reading this inane drivel half way through. Such ignorance of history and willful distortions of facts is too much to bother with at this point.

Open borders equals no country - which, I guess, if you live in a Manhattan high rise, Brentwood or out on Martha’s Vineyard probably ain’t no big deal. For the rest of us it’s a very big deal.

If you need a firm place to stop reading, wait until you reach "climate change." Otherwise, the sooner the better. Boundaries are there to keep people in the nation they have created and the removal of fences encourages those who have failed to migrate into the lands of people who have succeeded. The government would call it success inequality. I call it protection of your home.

Maybe, we need to be thinking of how to "live free" in an unfree world. Maybe, armed re-colonizers can move to Honduras and re-settle the country.

And with this open borders utopia, who makes the laws? who enforces them? who collects taxes? who pays for welfare? who provides for schools? who pays is the bottom line. These nitwits live in a fantasy land of people who are all good and holy and behave in the most extraordinarily pious manner. They are literally saints moving from place to place.
The reality is quite different, my dears, these people are pawns being moved around by snakeheads who use and abuse them. They are slave labor being handed over to people for the filthy lucre that you are always railing against. This is human trafficking where men are sold to work in fields and women and children are sold to work as prostitutes in an every growing perverted marketplace. That is reality, try to grasp it. It is not pretty but it is what is happening in the real world not the candyland of your imagination.
By the way each of you out there supporting these illegals better check your social security numbers because, guess what, these people have to have them to work and in order to have them someone is stealing them and giving them to these illegals for a price of course. So think about your stolen identity problems, and try to connect the dots.

This is possibly the biggest bunch of liberal hogwash I have read in quite a while. His comparing the British dividing up a settled existing country with the illegals flooding across our southern border purely for economic reasons is ridiculous and naive. And then he has the temerity to blame the mass migration into Europe and elsewhere on global warming. I will take the unique cultures of England, France, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Poland, etc. over the third world s--thole countries of Africa always. These remarkable cultures were developed over centuries because of borders.

This is an eloquent argument for the economic and social destruction of every place on the planet which has any measure of economic and social success along with an argument of moral equivalence for all the places which have not cleaned up their corrupt, feudal, crime-ridden, socio-economic systems where people still live in a slavery from which they could free themselves if they really wanted to do so.
The only thing missing was a recipe for unicorn horn and pixie dust which would grant the inhaler immortality in paradise.

It´s The (Communist) Nation, expecting rational thought is a foolish expectation.
It would be hell, and pretty close to like every other Central and South American death trap, violent hellhole. We are trending that way now due to so many of those hellhole violent folks who have moved here illegally.
