Nearly 1 billion has already poured in from ordinary worshippers and high-powered magnates around the world to restore the fire-ravaged Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, after the French president set a controversial five-year deadline to get the work done. Construction teams brought in a huge crane and a delivery of planks of wood to the site Wednesday morning. Firefighters are still examining damage and shoring up the structure after Mondays fire collapsed the cathedrals spire and destroyed the roof. French President Emmanuel Macron ratcheted up the pressure by setting a five-year deadline to restore the 12th-century landmark.

I am horrified that Macron has taken the lead in the reconstruction, and announced that he transported the art work to the Town Hall. Why? Because the Archbishop of Paris should have taken the lead and announced that the art was transported to Sacre Couer.
I am very afraid that the Notre Dame will be restored by a government-led multicultural committee as a vaguely-motivated national monument, with no Catholic commitment (and, maybe, with a mosque on one side and an interfaith chapel on the other). Macron should step out of the way, and let a committee consisting of Catholic clerics restore the cathedral.
Notre Dame should be restored only by devote Catholics only for devote Catholics, not by a government trying to impose multiculturalism.
And I am not Catholic.

#1, I am Catholic and have the same concern. I will become even more suspicious if George Soros announces that he is contributing.

#1 and #2, It´s too late. So many of the cathedrals in France are already under the control of the government and have been relegated to being historically religious structures which now function as secular museums. A real tragedy but, maybe someday, these will all be re-commissioned as active houses of worship.

It´s a distraction and a misdirection to avoid placing blames on the Muslim arsonist. He´s out there but don´t think there´s a motivation to catch the low life.

Once the government is involved you can double the time, triple the cost and expect shoddy unsafe work.
Put Trump in charge. Under time, under budget, quality workmanship.

2/3 of the cash donated will be diverted and used as a political cash money laundering scheme - as was the Haitian Earthquake donations was diverted by the Clintons. Leftists are masters at manipulating these kinds of unaccounted funds.

From the comment:"In 2018, over 800 Catholic churches were vandalized. Will they be helped?"
Sorry, but we aren´t going to introduce conjecture. You are not allowed to mention things like that, things that have nothing to do with the Notre Dame fire. Nope. Producers, hang up on Lucianne right this minute. We will not accept anymore of these opinions.

Excellent point #1. The art work is owned by the R.C. church.
The French have turned their backs on their foundation religion and now are all bent out of shape over an 800+ year old building of historical value being damaged! Excuse me? It´s "Notre-Dame de Paris" ya big dummies. As in "Our Lady of Paris" --- named after Mary ... yeah, that Mary ... Mother of Jesus. That was the reason it was built and why she was worshiped there --- protector of Paris!! The French Left society turned their backs on her and she is sending them a message. She´s saying: "It is you, Paris, who are really on fire but you can save the structure if you act fast! And you can rebuild". But I doubt they "get it". They never do.
Read how the French destroyed Catholic churches during their Reign of Terror and guillotined nuns and priests! Nothing new here.

So, the plan is to have a shiny new muslim target in five years? I too believe that a mosque or some other blasphemy will be built on the site, just like they did at the WTC, just like they did at Shanksville.

In the past Christians have pitched in to help rebuild damaged mosques. I wonder how much the Muslim world has donated to help rebuild the cathedral?
I suspect that, if they could, Muslims would buy the site and build a mosque over the ruins of the church.

There is a yuuuge difference between rebuilding and restoration. The latter involves meticulous, time-consuming work by skilled artisans (who are in short supply these days). Faithful restoration is measured in decades, not years or months. Care must be taken that the architecture and art represent the inspiration of the original artists, and not that of the restorers. That takes time - there are few shortcuts.
Even rebuilding can be time-consuming, especially when politicians get involved. The World Trade Center was not even rebuilt - it was replaced by One World Trade Center. It took years to even settle on a replacement design!
And there is always "Murphy´s Law".
As posters above point out: if this Catholic church is replaced by a muti-denominational (read: non-denominational) or multi-cultural "center", then why bother? Let it go the way of the Tower of Babel. Let be a repeated lesson to human vanity. Let the ashes be a permanent reminder of our folly.

Good news that there are funds, bad news that Idiot Macaroni will "take the lead". Probably means he will cut a ribbon when they are done, and nothing more.

We should wait until Trump is out of office in 2024. Then let Trump build it. He´ll have it done faster than if the French government did it. He´ll have it under budget. It will look great and Trump will incorporate a wall so this doesn´t happen again. Just watch, if the French do this they´ll not complete it until after 2024. And it will be over budget and it will look like Le Caca.

They are saying with the French Government now owning the Cathedral and taking the lead in rebuilding it, that it must be rebuilt as a secular building so that all elements of post Christian modern multicultural France, including non-Christians and their religions, will be comfortable in using it as they see fit.
So if the place is rebuilt with government support, it will no longer be a Roman Catholic Church.

I was raised Catholic but now I´m not really any religion. I understand the anguish over Notre Dame burning but seems to me a big over-reaction going on. Yes, rebuild it, but local channels here are wanting to collect money to contribute to the restoration. Can´t figure all this out other than it seems a bit off.
