National Cathedral says Trump didn´t need to give ´approval´ for McCain funeral

Original Article

The Washington National Cathedral disputed President Trump´s claim that he had to "approve" the funeral of the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). "Washington National Cathedral was honored to host the funeral service for Senator John McCain. All funerals and memorial services at the Cathedral are organized by the family of the deceased; only a state funeral for a former president involves consultation with government officials," a cathedral spokesperson said in a statement to The Hill on Thursday. "No funeral at the Cathedral requires the approval of the president or any other government official," he added.

Comments:

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a die-hard MAGA hat wearing Trump supporter but I was tagged in this by a very liberal family member and wanted to see what y’all thoughts were. I suspect that Trump wasn’t talking about the funeral service itself but rather what the government provided for it.

Nobody listens! He didn´t say anything about approval. He offered Air Force Two for their needs. And that he had no intention of attending the funeral. (The Rotunda area has its own Staff, so ask them who signs off on funeral requests.) We are midway through Year Three of the media´s Presidential Excoriation.

Trump is not some hypocrite Democrat!

sorry for the double post but, The federal government paid for Air Force II which transported the remains from AZ to DC as well as the military flyover, both needed to be approved by Trump. That’s what Trump
Was referring to, not the funeral at the cathedral itself.

Trump´s approval had nothing to do with the location.

McCain campaigned on repealing and replacing Obamacare. He lied and voted with the opposition in a lame attempt to hurt Trump. All he managed to do was prove what a vindictive and vain politician he had become and in the process threw everyone who voted for him under the bus.

The National Cathedral is uninformed, and presumptuous. Trump gave approval and assistance for transport, military attendances, and I suspect a lot of other matters. Why the snark? Try being nice and appreciative of other people, and it will get you a lot farther in life.

Trump also gave approval for various honors that a Senator is usually not entitled to. The flag at half mast is not an honor given to a POW, or a Senator. This is typical fake news. Start with a falsehood and keep harping it. The National Cathedral was never even a question.

The "cathedral spokesperson" is once again lying with the literal truth.

"No funeral at the Cathedral requires the approval of the president or any other government official." That´s undoubtedly true. But, McCain wasn´t some guy in a pine box with no mourners happy to just have words said over him.

What the spokesperson ignores, and which makes the literal truth a lie as presented in this story, is that the trappings of McCain´s funeral certainly needed approval by the President of someone of great authority acting on his behalf. Trump apparently did nothing to interfere or detract by withholding "approval" for any government participation.

I hope this doesn´t start some sort of silly Twitter war with a church...

Yep, how like democrats to twist the truth around. It wasn´t the service you numpties, it was the logistics and extras like security that were provided by the government that Trump had to approve. But never waste a chance to lie when the truth would serve much better.

That overblown circus may as well have been a state funeral, for the media sure treated it as such. So did McCain when he planned it.

As many have already noted, this pompous, presumptuous representative of the pompous, very Liberal, so-called “National Cathedral” is quite wrong. It was not their holding the service, but all the other “state funeral” accoutrements that surrounded it. The funeral was a funeral. Wellstone-ish, but a funeral. Could have been anywhere.

That said, if that wasn’t “organized” like a state funeral for a former president, you could have fooled me...

The National Cathedral is not a Roman Catholic Church, it is an Episcopal Church.

Clearly President Trump was not talking about the religious aspects of the funeral that took place inside the Cathedral, but was talking about all the US Government provided aspects of transporting McCain’s body to and from Washington, DC and the like for about a week.

So this article amounts to another misrepresentation of Trump’s rhetorical intent when he made a off the cuff comment relating to McCain and his family in response to a question from the media.

The National Cathedral isn’t Catholic.

The Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in the City and Diocese of Washington, commonly known as Washington National Cathedral, is an American cathedral of the Episcopal Church.

It should never have been called the “National Cathedral”. We don’t have a state religion or a national religion. All that did was made their heads swell...

It is a real estate property wholly owned by the Episcopal Church. They should change the name to ''American Cathedral of the Episcopal Church'' if they wanted to be disambiguous. But I think the diocese enjoys being thought of as the ''national'' cathedral. However, it isn't like it was a real church, with a regular congregation, meeting regularly in real worship. Or is it just a show place?
