For generations, the Kennedy name has been a shorthand in American politics for youth, glamour, public service and electoral success. But on Tuesday, Jack Schlossberg, the only grandson of former President John F. Kennedy, finished a distant third in a New York Democratic congressional primary—raising the question of whether the political magic around one of America's most famous dynasties has finally run out. Schlossberg, 33, lost the race for New York's 12th Congressional District to state Assemblymember Micah Lasher despite entering the contest with perhaps the most recognizable surname in Democratic politics. The political newcomer campaigned heavily on social

Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is still railing against the Electoral College, which cost her the presidency in 2016, calling it an "abomination" in a trailer for the new Netflix docuseries titled "The American Experiment." In a trailer for the upcoming series, which is executive-produced by Tom Hanks, Clinton remarks, "Well, I personally think the Electoral College is an abomination. For obvious reasons." (Snip) The push for abolishing the Electoral College, which was instituted in 1787, has gained increased support in some corners of the left, especially after Clinton’s 2016 loss to President Donald Trump. Alan Greenspan, the longtime Federal Reserve chairman known as “the Maestro” who became one of the most influential economic policymakers of his era and famously warned of “irrational exuberance,” has died. He was 100. The influential economist died Monday at his home from complications of Parkinson’s Disease, said his wife of 29 years, Andrea Mitchell, the chief Washington correspondent and chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News. (Snip) Greenspan was appointed Fed chairman in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan and held the position — through busts and booms — until retiring in 2006. His tenure was the second longest, four

CHICAGO — A spate of shootings in Chicago has led to at least 38 injuries and seven deaths since Friday evening, police say, prompting President Donald Trump to renew his call for a military intervention in the nation's third-largest city. "Why isn't Governor Pritzker calling me for help. I could make Chicago a safe City in ONE MONTH, in ONE YEAR, it would be one of the safest!!!" Trump said in a Sunday morning Truth Social post. (Snip) Preliminary information shared by Chicago police indicate there have been at least two dozen shooting incidents since 5 p.m. on Friday. Those killed

Three elderly hikers died in apparent heat-related deaths while traversing the Grand Canyon's inner trails as temperatures spiked above 100 degrees. Rangers and emergency personnel responded to two separate heat-related incidents on June 12 and June 16, according to the National Park Service. "In both cases, the deceased hikers were hiking trails in the Inner Canyon, where temperatures can exceed 109 F in the shade during midday hours," the statement said. Emergency responders arrived to find the hikers already deceased on the trails. A 72-year-old man was found dead June 12 on the South Kaibab Trail due to heat-related symptoms

Jennifer Siebel Newsom slammed the “tradwife” trend on social media and blamed sexism for Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris’ presidential election losses in a recent wide-ranging interview. She stopped in for the interview to promote her new movie, “Miss Representation: Rise Up,” while the Justice Department investigates the tax conduct of her and her husband, California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Siebel Newsom says the “tradwife” trend — which originated from the prominent roles women played in households within the 20th century and prior but has evolved into a social media subculture — oversimplifies women. “For the tradwife phenomenon, it’s like, you

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton savaged ex-President Joe Biden’s decision to try to run again in 2024 during an event in New York City on Monday night. Clinton joined New Yorker editor in chief David Remnick for a sit-down discussion and weighed in on how the Democrats stumbled and allowed for a situation where President Donald Trump was able to get reelected. “He made a terrible mistake. He made a terrible mistake for himself, his legacy, and for the country. He had said that he would not run again. And counterfactual narratives are always a bit tricky,” Clinton began

Former President Joe Biden has once again shared his repeatedly debunked anecdote about being confronted by an Amtrak conductor.
Appearing on an episode of Jay Leno's Garage YouTube show airing Monday, Biden shared the charming story about his conductor friend Angelo Negri approaching him about an article in the newspaper that said the then-vice president had flown more than 1.2 million miles via Air Force Two. Biden said Negri had walked up to him and grabbed him by his cheek, in front of Biden's stunned Secret Service agents, to admonish him for talking about his air miles when he had

BUTLER, Mo. — A plane carrying a pilot and 11 passengers on a skydiving outing in Missouri crashed in a field and was engulfed in flames Sunday, killing all aboard, authorities said. The crash happened shortly after the plane took off from a local airport around 11:30 a.m., and some of the occupants’ family members witnessed the crash, said Bates County Sheriff Chad Anderson. A heap of blue and silver mangled metal lay in the grass near Butler Memorial Airport with a massive lineup of emergency vehicles gathered on a nearby street. Clergy and volunteers went to the site to

Chicago’s South Side has an unusual new neighbour. It is 70-metres tall, dressed in grey granite and largely faceless. Rising from verdant Jackson Park, this mass of stone is capped with a message in tall concrete letters: “You are America. Unconstrained by habit and convention. Unencumbered by what is, because you’re ready to seize what ought to be.” (Snip) This glitch is symptomatic of the Obama Center, a place that’s encumbered with its own contradictions. The lavish US$850-million project stands apart from the surrounding low-income neighbourhoods. It honours a leader whose career began with community organizing, but delivers architecture that

A new state law goes into effect on Aug. 1 in Minnesota, which will no longer allow 10-, 11- and 12-year-old children to be criminally prosecuted. The law, passed two years ago by state legislators, now requires children under 13 who are considered delinquent, or who have broken a state law, be redirected to social services. The Minnesota Association of County Social Service Administrators (MACSSA) represents social service staff across the state's 87 counties and is asking the state to step in and make changes to the law. The Los Angeles County ballot measure to increase the county sales tax by a half-cent has passed, with the "yes" vote surpassing "no" by some 24,000 ballots. With the majority of the votes tabulated as of Wednesday, over 50% of voters approved the sales tax increase while more than 49% opposed the proposal. The passage of the ballot measure means the sales tax increase will take effect on Oct. 1, 2026. (Snip) The county sales tax currently stands at 9.75%. The proposed hike would increase it to 10.25%.
