An indictment has been brought. The prosecutor is Elizabeth Corey, professor of political science at Baylor. The defendant is Christopher Rufo, and through him a whole class of conservatives whom the prosecutor calls the “scrappy warriors” of the New Right. Corey makes three charges against them: they are uncivil, they divide the world into friends and enemies after the manner of Carl Schmitt, and they would rather crush their opponents than convert them, preferring to defile the seminar room than save it. Now that Mamdani has passed his "balanced" budget, he's off to the races with implementing the parts of his socialist agenda over which he has control.
He's been stymied in some things, such as providing free buses, but has the power to do others, such as put more restrictions on the police in order to give free rein to the antisemites who are upping their harassment of Jews.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani kicked off his plan to “fix” the city’s affordability crisis with his official housing policy agenda, titled “Block by Block,” under which one of the first priorities is to allow the government to seize property from owners deemed “negligent” and redistribute it to so-called “responsible stewards,” a category that includes anyone from land trusts, nonprofits, or even tenants themselves.
Far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) appears to be moving toward a possible run for the White House, Axios reported Sunday.

Long-time incumbent Texas Democratic Rep. Al Green lost his primary Tuesday to fellow incumbent Democratic Rep. Christian Menefee in a special runoff election that pitted two incumbents against each other for the same seat.
Both men were seeking their party's nomination to represent Texas' 18th congressional district. Menefee, a freshman congressman, will now face Republican candidate Ronald Whitfield in November.
