Jeff Bezos praised President Donald Trump and hyped up AI during a Wednesday interview. “Trump has lots of good ideas, and he’s been right about a lot of things. You have to give him credit where credit is due,” the Amazon founder said. I think he is a more mature, more disciplined version of himself than he was in his first term,” Bezos said of President Trump during an interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box co-host Andrew Ross Sorkin. In the wake of several close elections and a few Republican upsets, Democratic Party elites are increasingly embracing rhetoric that suggests a growing contempt for the will of the voters and an eagerness to circumvent the democratic process to beat the opposition party. The redistricting wars have resulted in Republicans gaining a modest advantage in the upcoming race for control of the House, and legal setbacks to Democratic countermeasures have resulted in pivotal political leaders voicing their frustrations in increasingly provocative ways.

The Daily Signal’s Mehek Cooke sits down with House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, for a wide-ranging conversation on the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Justice Department, the “Arctic Frost” investigation of Republicans by the administration of President Joe Biden, and the larger questions facing voters heading into the midterms. The discussion begins with a central question: Who gets to define hate and extremism in America, and what happens when powerful institutions use public trust as political cover?

Law enforcement authorities are responding to shots that were fired near the White House grounds, FBI Director Kash Patel said. Journalists working there Saturday reported hearing a series of gunshots and were told to seek shelter inside the press briefing room, where U.S. Secret Service officers prevented them from leaving. There were no immediate reports of any injuries. On X, Secret Service said it was “aware of reports of shots fired near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW” — one block from the White House — and was “working to corroborate the information with personnel on the ground.”

Two Chinese nationals in Virginia face federal money-laundering conspiracy charges connected to two of the world’s most notorious and dangerous Mexican drug cartels, federal prosecutors announced Friday. Ruhan Zhen and Hongce Wu have been charged by the Department of Justice, accusing the pair of conspiring to launder money in connection with transnational criminal organizations, including the Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation cartels. Both groups have been designated as foreign terrorist organizations by the Trump administration.

Warsh took the oath of office from Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in the East Room after President Donald Trump delivered remarks, in which he predicted Warsh “will go down as one of the truly great chairmen of the Federal Reserve that we’ve ever had.” Warsh was honored to receive the oath from Thomas. He called Thomas “a brilliant and independent thinker, a man dedicated to our Constitution, and no less important, a joyful and collegial presence on our highest court.” The newly minted Fed chair noted his relationship with former chairman Alan Greenspan, whom President Ronald Reagan appointed to the role in 1987.

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution outlining the locations of drop boxes for the upcoming early-voting period without consulting Recorder Justin Heap. The board approved the resolution while it continues to deal with an ongoing lawsuit with Heap about who runs specific election functions. In April, a judge ruled in favor of Heap, saying the board members need to hand over control of specific election functions to his office. The board sought a stay of the motion, but the Arizona Superior Court denied it. The board then announced it was appealing the lower court’s decision.

This month, Clarence Thomas became the second-longest-serving justice in Supreme Court history. That milestone would be notable for any jurist. For Thomas, it marks something more: the vindication of a constitutional vision that, for decades, was caricatured as eccentric, angry or unserious — until the court, and the country, began catching up. The occasion comes just as Thomas has again demonstrated why his tenure matters. In this session’s Louisiana v. Callais, the court held that Louisiana’s race-driven congressional map could not be justified by a misconstrued Voting Rights Act. As my colleague Dan Morenoff has explained,

The figurehead “president” of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, predicted a “bloodbath of incalculable consequences” in the event that America defend itself from a Cuban military attack on Monday, responding to a report claiming the Communist Party is quieting amassing drones to attack Florida. The claim surfaced on the Washington, DC, website Axios, which cited “classified intelligence” by claim that Cuba currently possesses over 300 military drones and is considering bombing Florida. The report blamed Russia and Iran for supplying the technology necessary to make the threat real and claimed that the Castro regime is concerned about the administration of President Donald Trump taking military action against the 67-year-old regime.

There’s been a very strange story that was printed not long ago by the liberal opinion journalist Nicholas Kristof. Now, apparently, he’s been retired. He’s written for decades at The New York Times. He’s sort of a social activist. He does some good things sometimes, but he tries to draw attention of The New York Times readership to supposed crises of morality all over the globe, such as the so-called genocide. And it depends on who you talk to. In Darfur, he visited it very many times. But he’s had a checkered career. During the anthrax scare near the millennium,

Scrambling to repair its mail-ballot boondoggle, the Maryland State Board of Elections began reprinting ballots Thursday, with plans to have more than 500,000 ballots resent to voters by next Friday. The elections board first announced last week that an undetermined number of mail ballots for the June 23 party primary were sent to the wrong voters, which it blamed on an error. While an undetermined number of voters will be voting a second ballot, the state’s top election official assured the public that only one ballot will be counted per voter for Maryland’s June party primary.

The good guys are winning. Plain old facts are obliterating the lies of the left, and the leftists don’t know what to do with themselves. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday an agreement has been "largely negotiated" with Iran and several allied nations, signaling a nearing end to the controversial 84-day war. The president wrote in a Truth Social post that following a "very good call" with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan and Bahrain, the deal is nearing finalization. "An Agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalization between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other Countries, as listed," Trump wrote in the post. "Separately, I had a call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel, which, likewise, went very well."

Democrat Barney Frank has died. Before we get into this story, you should know… (snip) Frank was directly tied to a disturbing political scandal in the 1980s. It was a scandal involving a male escort operation run out of his home by a man with deep connections to a bigger network involving underage boys, political protection, and organized exploitation in the Swamp. That’s what Barney Frank got caught up in. But unlike conservatives who get politically executed over much less, Barney Frank survived it all… and actually thrived.

Iran's regime has been using two tactics. It says: "We need time. We are, because of the strikes, fractured and our leadership divided." Or, as Vice President J.D. Vance naively noted on its behalf, it says it does not know what it wants. "The Iranians aren't themselves quite clear in what direction they want to go," Vance, with a straight face, told reporters at the White House; "they are also just a fractured country." That is exactly what the regime wants: that you are dumb enough to believe that. The Iranian regime knows precisely what it wants.

Mr. Trump declined to provide specifics about the agreement, but said that "every day it gets better and better."
