dual-pronged investigative and regulatory pincer movement is moving to close on the nonprofits and "dark money" networks that have long anchored the American left’s political and cultural infrastructure.
From Congress to the Justice Department and the IRS, the Trump administration and allied lawmakers are examining the anonymity and tax-exempt status enjoyed by some of the most influential progressive organizations in the country.
The latest development came Thursday when the House Oversight Committee issued a subpoena to the Sixteen Thirty Fund, the massive non-profit hub managed by Arabella Advisors. The subpoena demands internal communications and financial records regarding a social media influencer operation known as the Chorus program.

Dana Williamson, former chief of staff to California Gov. Gavin Newsom, pleaded guilty Thursday morning in federal court to three felony charges: conspiracy to commit bank fraud and wire fraud, subscribing to a false tax return, and making false statements to a federal agent. As part of the plea bargain, the remaining 20 counts against her will be dismissed without prejudice at the time of sentencing, and can be reinstated if the agreement is voided or if Williamson violates/withdraws the plea agreement. Court documents reveal that between February 2022 and September 2024, Williamson and multiple co-conspirators, including then-HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra's chief of staff, Sean McCluskie,—

President Trump wrapped up his whirlwind three-day trip to China after tea and lunch with Xi Jinping early Friday morning, Eastern time.
The commander-in-chief and his Chinese counterpart discussed a wide range of pressing issues over the course of the historic summit, aimed at shoring up relations between Washington and Beijing and opening up the communist country to American businesses.
Here are the top takeaways from Trump’s trip. 1. Taiwan remains a flashpoint
Xi raised the issue of Taiwan with Trump right out of the gate, but the president has thus far refused to budge on changing the long-standing US policy toward the self-governing,

In presenting the May revision of his final budget as governor, Gavin Newsom proposed ways to fix California’s $35 billion multi-year budget deficit.
The likely presidential hopeful’s attempt to solve the state’s budget woes depends on estimated general fund revenue sources from personal income taxes, corporate taxes, and sales and use taxes. The Democratic governor projected the revenues would run $16.5 billion higher than what his initial budget projected in January. That budget initially proposed revenue numbers that left the general fund with $232.3 billion. The new budget puts the revenue total at $248.8 billion.

Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman indirectly accused the media Wednesday night of inaccurately clipping President Donald Trump's comment on Iran's nuclear capabilities versus concerns regarding its impact on the American economy.
The senator defended the president's comments during an appearance on Fox News' Hannity, clarifying that Trump was more focused on keeping Americans safe by refusing to let Iran get nuclear weapons than how much the conflict was costing taxpayers.
“He said something that got clipped … saying, ‘I’m not thinking about [the] American people financially,’ but what he really was saying — he did say, is, ‘I’m really thinking that we can’t ever let Iran [build] a bomb,’” Fetterman said.

Citing concerns that access to financial services incentivizes illegal immigration and could aid terrorism, Rep. Keith Self, R‑Texas, introduced legislation Thursday that would bar illegal aliens from the U.S. banking system by requiring banks to collect customers’ citizenship or immigration status.
“Access to America’s financial system is reserved for those who respect our laws—not for illegal aliens who break them,” Self told The Daily Signal. “Those who enter illegally should not be rewarded with taxpayer‑backed banking services. This legislation draws a hard line: If you are here illegally, you will not have access to our financial system.”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is barely keeping his head above water amid electoral defeats for his Labour Party, a scandal involving an affiliated nonprofit, and the resignation of a key Cabinet official.
“Keir Starmer is governing like a man who knows his mandate is evaporating,” Paul McCarthy, senior research fellow in European affairs at The Heritage Foundation, told The Daily Signal on Thursday.
Troubles have mounted for Starmer, whose Labour Party lost 1,496 seats in regional elections last week—an election somewhat similar to the U.S. midterm elections. The traditional opposition, the Conservative Party, also lost 563 seats, while the new populist conservative party, Reform UK, picked up 1,451 seats. Nigel Farage,

Xi Jinping's inward-facing actions, however, betray a deep sense of insecurity. Trump can take advantage of it.
China's people — to the regime "building material" — are now extremely unhappy in the Communist Party "engineering state." Gloom, as a result, has descended over Chinese society.
Xi has responded to the unhappiness in society by initiating a censorship campaign against "excessively pessimistic sentiment." Most significantly, he is not willing to implement structural changes to put more money in the pockets of the laobaixing, the common folk.

President Donald Trump has worked hard to forge a deal to end the U.S.-Iran war and avoid a wider conflict. But, as the latest I&I/TIPP Poll shows, Americans remain sharply split over the U.S. military action, and strongly oppose sending ground troops into Iran.
The national online I&I/TIPP Poll, taken by 1,464 adults from April 28 to May 1, asked: “Do you support or oppose the United States military action against Iran?” The poll’s margin of error is +/-2.9 percentage points.
Among all those responding, 43% said they support the U.S.-Iran war either strongly (23%) or somewhat (20%),

The Trump Administration is on the move against Second Amendment infringements, and the American people are finally getting a glimpse of what it looks to have an executive branch that’s fully invested in protecting the right to keep and bear arms.
Harmeet Dhillon, head of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, recently announced a new legal offensive against states and localities with gun laws that clearly run afoul of the Constitution. Her office just filed very strategic lawsuits against the city of Denver over its ordinance prohibiting so-called assault weapons, and against the state of Colorado over its ban on selling standard capacity magazines.

There was much fake news about the tech and finance leaders traveling with President Trump to China. Moments ago, President Trump corrects the record:
TRUTH SOCIAL – “CNBC incorrectly reported that the Great Jensen Huang, of Nvidia, was not invited to the incredible gathering of the World’s Greatest Businessmen/women proudly going to China. In actuality, Jensen is currently on Air Force One and, unless I ask him to leave, which is highly unlikely, CNBC’s reporting is incorrect or, as they say in politics, FAKE NEWS!

President Donald Trump is eyeing oil-rich Venezuela as a potential 51st state as officials continue to court oil companies for investments in the South American country following the U.S. intervention that removed President Nicolas Maduro from power.
Trump said in a phone call with Fox News that he is motivated by the estimated $40 trillion value of oil in Venezuela, adding that he is popular with the country's citizens.
"Venezuela loves Trump," Trump said.
After U.S. military officials captured Maduro in January, whom the Justice Department indicted on narco-terrorism charges, Trump said the United States would "run" the country during its transitional period and work with Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez.
