Well, isn't this interesting? There are reports that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been conducting military strikes against an Iranian oil facility. If this can be confirmed, this could represent quite a shake-up in the Middle East. That post reads: MORE: According to the Wall Street Journal, the UAE secretly carried out military strikes inside Iran, including the April 8 attack on the oil refinery on Lavan Island. The UAE reportedly used Western-made fighter jets, believed to be Mirage 2000-9s, but has not publicly acknowledged the operation. The strike took place just hours after a fragile U.S.-brokered ceasefire. Iran responded immediately with missile and drone attacks on targets in the UAE.

It was fun while it lasted. Fun? Well ... revealing, anyway. Yesterday, the New York Times reported that Democrats in Virginia would amend the state constitution to force all sitting judges on its state supreme court to retire, after losing a 4-3 decision on another botched attempt to amend the state constitution. David wrote about the even more breathtaking abuse of power this would represent. It turns out that this was a bridge too far even for Democrats, who have begun to wonder about the backlash coming from its scummy tactics in gerrymandering the state. As one Democrat "operative" told the Virginia Scope this morning,

President Donald Trump has been compared to many historical figures, by opponents (who claim he’s another Adolf Hitler) and by boosters (who cite Andrew Jackson or Teddy Roosevelt). With his blockade of Iran, though, maybe we should start comparing him to Gen. Winfield Scott. In the mid-19th century, Scott was America’s preeminent military mind, the architect of victory in the Mexican War and the “Grand Old Man of the Army.” As the Civil War loomed, he developed a plan to defeat the Confederacy with the smallest number of casualties possible. He called it the Anaconda Plan — and like its namesake it was about applying a squeeze, and squeezing hard

On Monday, in a 6-3 decision, the United States Supreme Court vacated a ruling in the United States District Court of Northern Alabama, which required the state to draw congressional maps establishing two majority-minority congressional districts. The motions to expedite are granted. The petition for a writ of certiorari before judgment in No. 25-243 is granted. The judgment of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama in that case is vacated, and the case is remanded to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit with instructions to remand to the District Court

The apparent collapse of high-stakes U.S.-Iran negotiations has intensified fears that senior figures inside Tehran’s leadership could flee to Russia, seeking refuge to "continue their insurgency and undermine any new regime," an analyst warns. The breakdown in talks comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also told CBS’ "60 Minutes" that toppling Iran’s regime could now even be a realistic outcome. Netanyahu noted that any collapse would dismantle the "scaffolding" of Tehran's global terror proxy network, also potentially ending Hezbollah's influence in the region.

Democrats on Monday filed an emergency appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court in an effort to overturn the Virginia Supreme Court’s rejection of the state’s mid-decade redistricting effort, which was passed by referendum last month and would overwhelmingly benefit Democrats. The state spent $5.2 million to pay for the special election to ask voters to approve the map, which would have created ten districts that favor Democrats, with just one district favoring Republicans. The new map was designed to allow Democrats to pick up as many as four seats in the upcoming midterm elections. But after the Republican National Committee challenged the new map in court,

Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones filed a long-shot emergency petition to the Supreme Court on Monday, urging it to reinstate the voter-approved Democratic gerrymander of the state’s congressional map, which the Virginia Supreme Court struck down last week. The petition, filed on behalf of Jones and other Democratic leaders in Virginia, argued that the Virginia Supreme Court erred in ruling that an “election” in the Virginia constitution includes the early voting period, instead arguing that under federal law, an “election” refers to a singular day.

The Bass campaign defended the decision by pointing to her recent debate schedule, noting she debated her "top two opponents twice this week."

By the numbers Economists predicted payroll gains of 65,000 in April, according to a consensus forecast from FactSet. The unemployment rate, which has hovered above 4% since June 2024, held steady at 4.3%. Hasan Piker, a leftist streamer and "influencer," is a real piece of... work. Politically, he's somewhere out there to the left of Fidel Castro. So, naturally, when the Virginia Supreme Court struck down the redistricting scheme cooked up by Virginia Democrats who didn't bother to read what the Virginia Constitution says about the matter, Piker got himself in, shall we say, a bit of a snit. Actually, a four-alarm angry rant is a more accurate decision. In a 4-3 decision, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled that a voter-approved map, which would give Democrats a 10-1 advantage in U.S. House races, violated the state's constitution because of procedural errors in the map’s passage.

A funny thing happened on the way to the (Kia) Forum. The media has begun to take notice of the results emerging from decades of Democrat rule in the Golden State. And suddenly, California dreaming looks a lot more like California screaming – and even the lockstep media can't ignore it. Democrats have only themselves to blame, not just for the disaster they have made of the state but also in providing the catalyst for the national spotlight on it. In the gubernatorial race, a flood of high-profile Democrats jumped into the jungle primary – also a Democrat innovation – while Republicans had more discipline

A high school prom celebration turned deadly after gunfire erupted at a local park, killing a teenage girl and wounding four others, according to officials. Saturah Hayes, 17, was fatally shot Friday evening in Brownsville, Tenn. — about an hour northeast of Memphis — where Haywood High School students decked out in tuxedos and dresses gathered for photographs before the big dance, police and school officials said. Four others were shot and hospitalized, according to police. It’s not clear how many of those wounded were students. The prom was cut short and the school was closed Monday to give Hayes’ classmates time to grieve, Action News 5 reported.

In 1921, Woodrow Wilson, the first of America’s four transformative progressive presidents, became the first president to remain in Washington and make the nation’s capital his permanent home after leaving office. In very mild defense of the man who did more than any other to establish the administrative state and thus pervert America’s carefully constructed constitutional design, Wilson had suffered a debilitating stroke two years prior that left him partially paralyzed and nearly blind. He died just a few years later, in 1924. Barack Obama, the nation’s fourth transformative progressive president (following Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Lyndon B. Johnson)

A law that was brought in under Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to give all candidates an equal chance at the ballot is now being contested. Now, a newly filed application is aiming to change that. (Snip) “It was extremely scary to envision the November ballot for governor with Republicans on it,” Maviglio told the Los Angeles Times. Iran also sent civilian aircraft to park in neighboring Afghanistan. It was not clear if military aircraft were among those flights, two of the officials told CBS News.

Five words: Power unused is power surrendered. That’s the reality Senate Republicans now face. With a narrow majority and a nation increasingly concerned about election integrity, Republicans face a choice: act decisively or allow procedural relics to dictate policy outcomes. At the heart of this dilemma is the filibuster — not a constitutional safeguard, not a sacred institution, but a Senate rule that has evolved into a minority veto. And in its current form, it’s not even honest. Today’s filibuster is a shadow of its former self. Senators no longer need to stand on the floor, speak for hours, or defend their obstruction before the American people.

Staffers of the Federal Reserve bank system are providing financial backing for the Democratic Party’s lurch toward the far left, a Washington Free Beacon analysis found. In the 2024 campaign cycle, 90.3 percent of contributions from Fed employees went to Democrats, according to Open Secrets. The site doesn’t yet have a tally of the political distribution of donations this campaign cycle, but the Fed staff are jumping in, pouring money into contested Democratic primary races and supporting candidates with extreme views that are hostile to free-market economics or to America’s traditional allies.
