Is China A ‘Threat’? 44% Would Back
Trade Limits For National Security Reasons:
I&I/TIPP Poll

By a slender margin, a plurality of Americans see China as a “threat” rather than as a “competitor” or “partner,” the latest I&I/TIPP Poll shows. And nearly half say they would back further trade restrictions on China for national security reasons, even if it means higher prices. Americans are at best ambivalent, the I&I/TIPP Poll indicates. The poll of 1,456 voters, taken from Feb. 27 to 29, has a margin of error of +/-3.0 percentage points. The first question: “Do you view China primarily as an economic partner, an economic competitor, or an economic threat to the United States?”

This shows that 66% of Americans aren't real bright on what China is doing. China has been at war with us for decades, and too many don't even realize that buying "made in China" is cutting their own throats.

Like most things, the truth is a matter of perspective. On the one hand, we all benefit from slave labor, which is the system used by China to produce cheap goods to steal market share from countries that still protect individual freedom and property. We get cheap TVs, and the CCP uses our trade deficit to buy gold rather than pass on the windfall to their enslaved workforce. Sorry, not our problem. The snag in this is that we lose our independence and competence to produce things we depend on, and become slaves ourselves to the kindness of the CCP trade policies. But, like a frog in boiling water, the warm water feels really good at first. The other risk is that China does not protect intellectual property and is happy to distill our frontier AI LLMs into cheap knockoffs that are not as good, but are "good enough" for most dumb tasks that don't require deep reasoning to gain market share from US companies that only care about the bottom line. China is also establishing itself as the leading provider of AI video generation models, capitalizing on the recent demise of Sora from OpenAI. Very soon, most, if not all, short-form advertising, TikTok videos, YouTube videos, and other cheap content will be produced using Kling 3.0 or Seedance 2.0 models from China. Animated features and VFX production will be generated in the new "Hollywood" centered in China. By the time the surveys reflect a general understanding of the Chinese threat to our economy, it will be too late to do anything about it.

It was a very different Donald Trump the nation saw Wednesday night than “the showman president” they experienced in his last prime-time address. Then, an “affordability”-addled America was force-fed the chief executive’s version of “P.T. Barnum, the Prince of Humbugs, blaring hard-sell and hyperbole, mixed with equal measures of vitriol and vituperation.” This time around, 47 stepped forward in a very different, and far more appropriate role: a calm, contemplative, and consolatory commander-in-chief accompanied concerned countrymen and women on a solemn but

We wonder if anyone has conducted a demographic survey of the people who showed up at the “No Kings” protests around the country, because we suspect the results would be an embarrassment. We noticed as a rally marched down the main street in Pasadena, California, that the protesters were comprised almost entirely of white people who were predominantly middle-aged or older. (This is a city that is 40% black and Hispanic, according to the Census Bureau.) So we looked at videos and pictures from protests in other cities around the country this past Saturday, and noticed

A little more than two months ago, when Zohran Mamdani was still in his first days as New York City’s boy mayor, we suggested that he should be driven from office. It was that bad. Has the situation improved since then? No, it’s only become worse. Let’s start off with the mayor hosting a Ramadan iftar dinner on March 11 at City Hall, where he was joined by Muslim city workers. Well, isn’t that the prerogative of the mayor? After all, Christian elected officials have used government buildings for prayers and faith-based observances since the beginning of the republic. But was this just devout Muslims practicing their religion?

The New York Times recently ran a piece titled “Democrats Hammer Trump on ‘Energy Affordability’ as Iran War Continues.” Our headline above is a more accurate description of what’s going on, because it is the Democrats – not Donald Trump – who have been and still are waging war on affordable energy. The fawning Times article is based on a report from “top Senate Democrats” that “accused the Trump administration of waging a ‘war on energy affordability’ by canceling hundreds of clean energy projects even before the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran — strikes which have sent energy costs higher.”

President Donald Trump’s tariffs on imported goods suffered a Supreme Court legal rebuke in late February, but they’re not doing much better in the court of public opinion. As the latest I&I/TIPP shows, a plurality of voters don’t believe the economy will get a boost from tariffs, which win strong majority support only from Republicans. It was once the case that most conservatives and many moderates rejected tariffs on imported goods as an unwanted distortion of free trade. Meanwhile, liberals embraced tariffs as a welcome tool of government “industrial policy.” But President Trump has flipped the script.

All is well in California, according to Gov. Gavin Newsom. The milk flows cool and creamy, and the honey has never been so sweet. But beneath the bluster lies bitter experience and, if nothing changes, a sour future. The Golden State, says the presidential aspirant in a recent co-bylined op-ed published by Project Syndicate, offers policy predictability, a welcome home for global capital, and a green agenda like no other. Newsom is correct in that policy is predictable in California. But that’s no virtue when policy is expected to always move in a single direction — toward weightier regulation, more punitive

The Wall Street Journal recently reported on the growing divide between blue and red states when it comes to income taxes. What it failed to mention is that this shows the genius of the nation’s founders. “Republican-led states are racing each other to flatten, cut, and eliminate individual income taxes, with 23 states lowering their top income-tax rates since 2021,” Richard Rubin and Jeanne Whalen write. And, indeed, this year, nine states – all Republican – either cut their top marginal tax rate or lowered their flat tax rate. Ohio became the 14th state to adopt a flat tax. “Democratic-controlled states are moving the opposite way

California has already sued the Trump administration at least 54 times a little more than a year into his second term. State Attorney General Rob Bonta claims the lawsuits are an effort to hold President Donald Trump accountable. But litigation goes both ways. The administration is now suing California over its zero-emission (in effect, electric) vehicle mandate. The Justice Department says that California’s ZEV mandates and its stringent standards for CO2 emissions violate federal law, which expressly prohibits states from setting their own fuel economy standards for cars, adding

Democrats have kept the Department of Homeland Security shuttered since mid-February because they were outraged that two Americans were killed by ICE agents while interfering with their work. Since then, terrorists have claimed four American lives – a number that could have been significantly higher had fortune not prevailed. So, where are the protests over these deaths? “What’s happening in Minnesota is appalling — and unacceptable in any American city,” is how Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer justified his party’s decision to force the DHS closure. Democrats are insisting on a raft of ICE “reforms,”

It wasn’t long ago that millions and millions of American kids heard their parents’ best advice: “The only way to get ahead is with a college education.” And millions took their advice. Today’s parents and the kids themselves are skeptical college is worth the cost, the latest I&I/TIPP Poll shows. The national online poll, taken Feb. 24 to Feb. 27, asked 1,456 adults: “Do you believe a four-year college degree is worth the cost for most Americans today, or not?” The answer indicates serious erosion in how Americans view the value of higher education. Overall, of those responding, 59% selected “Not worth the cost,” while just

When Washington lawmakers were debating the state’s first-ever income tax, Gov. Bob Ferguson said the 9.9% rate on incomes above $1 million “represents historic progress in rebalancing our unfair system.” And at first blush, you can see why Washingtonians might agree with him. The new tax promises, after all, to raise $3.7 billion from fewer than 0.5% percent of the state’s taxpayers, with the money going toward such wonderfulness as education, child care, and expanded low-income tax credits. The middle-class families in that state are in for a rude awakening. First, the tax isn’t likely to collect anywhere

The case, known as Trump v. During an exchange with the ACLU’s Cecillia Wang, who is arguing that the order is unconstitutional, Jackson seemingly made a case for why birthright citizenship should extend to foreigners

No, you didn’t read that headline wrong. The Austrian President has officially gone off the rails. This guy just gave us a glimpse into how the messed up globalist mind works when it finally stops pretending to be sane. Globalist leaders spent years flooding Europe with failed “refugees welcome” policies that have destroyed communities, crushed national identity, erased traditions, and helped turn once-safe countries into places filled with soaring violent crime. And the far-left leaders behind this madness still haven’t learned a single thing. In fact, they’ve actually become more unhinged, arrogant, and totally absurd. Which brings us to the latest gem from Europe’s ruling class.

Should California codify Islamic religious observances into state-recognized holidays in the United States? As a nation, the essence of who we are as a People is rooted in our Judeo-Christian values and principles, dating back to the Magna Carta. This shared moral vocabulary has shaped Western thinking since America’s founding. Why, then, would any State in the Union formally endorse or incorporate into our educational and other public institutions a religious doctrine with practices antithetical to the belief system?
