The Traditional Immigrant
Silicon Valley was energized by legal immigrants from all over the world who founded eBay, Google, Nvidia, SpaceX, Stripe, Sun Microsystems, Tesla, Yahoo, and a host of others.
The Greek American Elia Kazan’s 1963 film America, America is a fictional account based on the Herculean struggle of the director’s uncle to immigrate to the United States from an impoverished and hostile Turkish Anatolia. The film summed up Americans’ traditional view of immigrants: They had risked everything for the chance to reach America, and once there, became hyperpatriotic in their gratitude for the magnanimity of their new hosts.
An excellent example is the recently released memoir from Encounter Books, American Trojan,

Wyoming bears all the hallmarks of a “red state.” Its executive offices and legislature are dominated by Republicans, and Donald Trump won it by more than 40 points in the last three presidential elections.
But like many “red states” in America today, Wyoming’s Republican rule is in many ways a mirage. So-called “Republican” elected officials have often gone out of their way to stifle and kill conservative priorities. The state’s recently concluded budget session perfectly illustrates this problem.
Despite Republicans possessing supermajorities in the state House (56-6) and Senate (29-2), the House rejected six bills containing provisions —

In Milton Friedman’s classic book, Free to Choose, he describes the vision that accounts for America’s political and economic success: The true essence of freedom is when individuals can make their own choices about the things they value. And people have very different opinions about valuation. Free societies must respect the fact that people have very different views about what they want. By contrast, the notion that everyone should have the same things is a core principle of socialism.
Liberty flourishes when millions of people are free to choose between hundreds of products and services offered by many competitors.

France’s government is bolstering the country’s military presence in the Middle East, dispatching its aircraft carrier and other warships, while President Emmanuel Macron engages with key players in the conflict, including Iran, in a bid to position Paris for future diplomatic talks.
Macron said that France’s military involvement is strictly “defensive” and aims to avoid making the country a party to the war.
He reaffirmed that position after one French soldier was killed Thursday in a drone attack in Iraq.
“We are not at war with anyone,” Macron said.

President Donald Trump anounced that Ric Grenell was moving on from heading up the Kennedy Center.
Trump praised the work he had done to improve the Center. Grenell explained that things were a mess when he came in. That's one of the reasons it's now been closed for renovations. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) tried to attack Grenell. But the response from Grenell was savage. I think Sheldon is not used to being so completely upended. He's likely to remember this one. Now that's a satisfying drubbing of the execrable Whitehouse, who certainly deserved it.

Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a trend, and four times is CNN.
CNN staffers have spent the past few weeks worrying about a potential merger that could hand editorial control of the network to CBS editor in chief Bari Weiss. They have good reason to be scared — especially after several CNN employees this past week bungled the basic facts of the recent ISIS-inspired bombing attempt in New York City, leading staffer after staffer to issue the same shamefaced, totally avoidable correction. (These high-profile embarrassments, by the way,

The Trump administration will receive about a $10 billion transaction fee from investors involved in the recently sealed deal to take control of TikTok’s U.S. operations, according to a Wall Street Journal report on Friday.
The payment stems from an agreement in which a group of investors with connections to the administration took control of TikTok’s U.S. operations from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, according to sources cited in the report.
The fee will be made separate from the capital investments related to establishing a new U.S.-based entity to operate the TikTok app domestically.

We’ve grown used to the media’s joining with the Democrats to attack every move by the President, but it is still something to watch the lies and distortions about the war in Iran where the press smears the troops in the middle of battle. Using the latest technology and working closely with the IDF and IAF, our military has achieved the most remarkable, unpredicted achievements in a matter of days. On the other hand, most major media coverage denigrates this accomplishment and regrettably advocates for our enemies.

State legislators recently pelted Greg Lucas, the leader of the California State Library, with questions about the funds during a budget hearing on education, the New York Post reported on Friday. The issue is connected to a foundation started by Parton called Imagination Library, which delivers free books to children. The program was set to be statewide in California in 2023, according to WJHL.
The outlet noted Parton created her library in 1995 to provide free books in her home county in east Tennessee.During the hearing, state Sen. Shannon Grove (R) told Lucas he did not have documentation to show where the money went.

The Republican Party is not split over the Iran war — but that doesn’t mean it can simply ignore the crank fringe bewailing and assailing President Donald Trump’s actions.
Polls show that 85% of Republicans back the attacks, and doubts are even more rare among the MAGA wing.
That should shock no one: Since the start of his second term (at least), the prez has enjoyed very high levels of support and approval within his party, and Epic Fury doesn’t change that.
Opinion could well shift if the war turns into a disaster of some kind, or a quagmire “forever war,” of course.

Oil pumping operations are expected to begin imminently off the coast of California after President Trump issued an executive order Friday to resume oil drilling operations near Santa Barbara, The Post has learned.
Officials for Sable Offshore Corp. informed local fire officials of their intent to “resume pumping operations within 24 hours.”
The notification is a standard protocol for industrial activities involving hazardous materials pipelines.
“This coordination allows the department to maintain readiness for potential emergency response, including resource staging, personnel alerting, and collaboration with other agencies, in the event of any incident such as a leak, spill, or fire,” Fire Chief Garrett Huff said in a statement to The Post.
