Convention Of States Effort Nears Milestone
In Kansas

Original Article

A years-long effort to hold a convention of states to propose amendments under Article V of the Constitution appears poised to hit a major milestone in Kansas this week as the legislature mulls becoming the 20th state to call for such a move. (snip) Article V of the U.S. Constitution allows amendments if two-thirds of the state legislatures approve the calling of a state convention for a specified, limited purpose. (snip) [A] minimum of 34 states would need to approve such a move for a convention to occur, and any proposed amendments would still need to be ratified by three quarters of the states (38).

Comments:

A dubious but persistent proposal. In the current environment a Convention of States would be like loosening a cannon and firing off a round just to see what happens. It will be recalled that the Constitution itself was the product of a convention of states called merely to amend the Articles of Confederation. I prefer that any amendments be proposed, considered, and adopted one at a time. Yes, President Trump called attention to this proposal once last year but has since forgotten about it. We should, too.

Just wondering if it has to do with the financial calamity that is near and requires a balanced federal budget and a digital currency in order for America to survive. But surely as the sky is blue, the dims will complicate the process with its rights thing for the illegals. Or with the dims' climate change nonsense. Or with gun confiscation. Who knows.

FTA - "This would include debates on imposing fiscal restraints, term limits, and power limitations on the federal government." A very broad agenda. Not sure what/who would benefit most - the USA as founded or a USSA.

Re No.2. Maybe not age limits... I know an 85-year-old much sharper than some 70-year-olds. Term limits, for sure. A cognitive test would be good too, but that would eliminate half of Congress.

Be careful what you wish for. Not every state hold the Constitution in the same way the red states do. And remember what the Democrats did at the elections. Nothing wrong with our constitution now. It can be changed with amendments.

I have very little faith that a convention will accomplish much. 2/3rds of the states have to request it and passage of an amendment requires 3/4ths of the states to approve it for passage. Right now, half the states believe men can get pregnant. If half said the sky was blue, the other half would go outside to check. If Trump came out against it, the blue states would demand one immediately.

In today's highly charged political climate, an Article V Conventional of the States would be similar to Congress throwing together one of their Appropriations bills that have to be passed to see what's in it. Nobody wants the Democrats or Rino's anywhere near a new Amendment to the Constitution.

Considering our elections are dubious these days and that we all wonder whether they are being stolen, a convention is not timely. What kind of maniacs are so lost in their theories of how interesting a fair one would be that they fail to notice that it would be basically running Miss America naked through the crowd in Tahrir Square to get exercise and lose weight, without taking into account what would actually happen. The idea is just not timely.

Supreme Court justices were stunned Tuesday when lawyers defending Hawaii's so-called "Vampire Rule" -- which restricts carrying guns on privately owned spaces without consent -- pointed to racist laws in their defense of gun control. During their arguments, the lawyers had cited the Black Codes, post-Civil War segregationist laws that limited the rights of African Americans, as evidence of similarly restrictive gun control in U.S. history. "I want to understand how you think Black Codes should inform this court's decision-making. It's quite astonishing," conservative Justice Neil Gorsuch pressed attorney Neal Kaytal.
