Florida public school students will learn the “brutal realities” of communism under new standards the State Board of Education adopted Thursday, the state’s education chief said. The “History of Communism” will be integrated into the state’s social studies standards and implemented in the 2026-2027 school year. It’s the result of a 2024 law signed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis that mandates students be taught the “consequences of communism” and to prepare them to “withstand indoctrination on communism at colleges and universities.” “With the resurgence of communist ideologies across the United States and throughout the world, it is more important than ever for students to understand the catastrophic failures and human

In spring 1966, I was in eighth grade. The principal of our elementary school in Lake County Illinois, Mr. Kroll, conducted a one-week long class just before our graduation to high school titled, "Propaganda and Communism". Mr. Kroll was a WWII survivor from the European theatre. He set out to teach us kids the evil of socialism and communism because he saw these with his own eyes. At one point near the end of the course, he looked each of us kids straight in the eye and said that WWII is not over, it is only a pause and that new communists in America will eventually emerge. And as we see, they are here now. I rather doubt that school principals who followed him were that passionate about the future for America. I will never forget his devotion to our Constitutional Republic.

Sad that this was necessary. At one time pretty much everyone knew communism was bad. Then those 60's hippies got into academia and began the damage, which continues to this day.

I attended HS in a small city in central Florida. In the late 1960s a required course for ALL HS students was "Americanism versus Communism". It was an excellent course, and should be revived today.

Why doesn't any school in America teach capitalism? Why doesn't any university teach economics other than Keynesian? We need to privatize everything. Everything the government oversees turns to ruin.

Re #10, remember the term "capitalism" was created by Marxists as a pejorative. For far too many, it is still a dirty word. We want to use the term "Free market economics" rather than using our enemy's term 'capitalism'. People are actually generally quite supportive of free markets.

Democrats want call program for immigrant detainees 7 replies

Immigrants detained in facilities across the U.S. would be able to contact their lawyers and families under legislation filed by a group of congressional Democrats. The Restoring Access to Detainees Act affects immigrants who are placed in Customs and Border Protection or Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities. Sponsors of the legislation said it follows months of “credible reporting” that ICE and CBP have prevented detainees from contacting family members or legal representatives. “The Trump administration’s practice of snatching people off the street and denying them access to lawyers or calls to family is cruel, unnecessary, and puts U.S. citizens and lawfully present immigrants at risk of wrongful detention and deportation,”

Country singer Alexis Wilkins has filed a $5 million lawsuit against several conservative influencers who she says falsely portrayed her as a Mossad “honeypot.” Wilkins, who is dating former Trump national security official Kash Patel, filed the suit amid growing disputes inside the conservative movement over Israel and foreign policy. Patel defended Wilkins in a public statement on X. “The disgustingly baseless attacks against Alexis, a true patriot and the woman I am proud to call my partner in life, are beyond pathetic. She is a rock solid conservative and a country music sensation who has done more for this nation than most will in ten lifetimes,” Patel said.

An illegal alien allegedly used a child’s identity for several years and caused him to lose access to his Medicaid coverage. Antonio De Jesus Moreno Escobar, who was living in Texas, was arrested by law enforcement officials after he was discovered to be using falsified documents to work different jobs and rake in health care benefits, Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Wednesday. The apprehension is the latest in Paxton’s ongoing work to root out illegal alien fraud in the state. “This case is a disturbing example of how illegal aliens drain our resources, hurt innocent Texans, and even deprive children of vital healthcare,” Paxton said in a statement.

As we wrote on Friday, state and local Democrats in North Carolina began wildly chattering this week after information started to circulate that after making progress on sweeping up criminal illegal aliens in Chicago, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was readying immigration operations to start in Charlotte soon. Part of the pushback came from city council members, as well as the sheriff of Mecklenburg County, where Charlotte is located. It was the fear-mongering from one congresswoman and the state's governor, though, that drew the attention of Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino, when they failed to acknowledge the difference between the words "immigrant" and "illegal alien." Gorsuch said a lack of basic knowledge about the nation’s founding principles represents a serious threat to the country. Gorsuch noted that many Americans would be unable to pass the civics test required of foreigners seeking to legally immigrate to the United States. He said this gap in understanding poses long-term risks for the country and echoed themes he has raised previously regarding civic education. The creeping transformation of Western cities under demographic and cultural pressures has long been a cautionary tale in Europe, particularly in the UK, where London—once a beacon of Enlightenment values (and more importantly biblical truths) — has earned the moniker “Londonistan” for its visible embrace of parallel Islamic societies. With 15% of its population now Muslim, the city features halal-dominated high streets and Friday prayer congregations that overwhelm urban traffic. Across the Atlantic, Texas stands at a similar crossroads, its Muslim population surging amid rapid urbanization in hubs like Dallas and Houston. While Europe’s trajectory offers stark parallels—accelerated by lax policies and demographic shifts—Texas still holds unique tools,

For most teachers, they enter the profession not as a job, but as a calling. They love kids and want to be part of educating the next generation. They certainly don't do it for the money. Those who are not teachers but support staff also do what they do because they believe that education will take students wherever they want to go in life. Millions of taxpayer dollars go toward public education. Are those dollars being spent wisely? In one major city, that answer is most likely "no." Would you believe that in the entirety of human history, no one has been oppressed as much as Michelle Obama? It’s true. Whenever she gets in front of a microphone, she can’t help but complain about how unfairly she’s been treated, how terrible white people are, or how racist our country is. She paints herself as chronically oppressed, endlessly scrutinized, and forever burdened by a country that never treated her fairly.
