Two significant shifts for Canadians appear to come out of the recent tour of Europe as highlighted today by Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The first development is the formal declaration that Canada has joined the “coalition of the willing”, along with the U.K, France and Germany. The second announcement is that Canadian troops will join the coalition of the willing and put boots on the ground in Ukraine, as part of the coalition’s security guarantees for Ukraine. WOW. The guy who depends on our NORAD assets and does not pony up it's share in NATO bravely decides to rely more heavily on US assets after pissing off Putin so a bunch of fat "elbows up" wankers from Canada can parade around a demilitarized zone. I really do not like this guy.

I don't like Russia's invasion of the Ukraine because I don't like Russian expansionism in any form. However, I also have shared misgivings about the U.S. being drawn deeper into this conflict before. With that in mind, having Canadian troops bolster European troops to try to secure some kind of settlement seems like a better option than any scenario where U.S. troops get placed in harm's way.
Because there's always a chance some Russian harms an American by malice or mistake, and that could have deadly consequences for everyone.

Back many decades ago when I was in a US infantry battalion we were pared up with the Second Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) I believe out of Edmonton, Manitoba, and they were really good soldiers, I believe in the British tradition. The problem with the Canadian Army is that they only have nine regular infantry battalions, and I believe three regular armored battalions. So Canada will not be able to send too many troops abroad and still be able to effectively defend Canada.

The socialist ("progressive") media in the West have bee trying to nudge the USA into direct conflict with the Soviets for the last sixty-plus years. They're getting almost close enough to taste it, never mind the cost in human lives.

This is not even a well disguised slap at DJT. Sorry, not a chance that man will get baited into this. You can go there and flex all you want.

I don't expect PDJT to take the bait; but will Putin see a rationale for a preemptive strike?
At least now we have viable alternate media, like CT, GP, and Breitbart, to shed light on things the mainstreamers will never report. Will it make enough of a difference, though?

Carney is a Globalist. He 's just making sure he has the Canadian quota of human sacrifices for their meat grinder. This is fuedalistic population control. If you decide there are too many people, have a nice little war. Make sure to include the difficult members of your society in the front ranks.
Then sit back drink your wine, pat your concubine and watch you troubles bleed away.

Thank you for your service, #3, and don't fret the Edmonton thing. We're all getting old.
I'm grateful for your perspective of the Canadian soldiers. The Canadian armed forces are, like the RCMP, a competitively selected service. The Canadian military is small but professional--i.e. not everyone who wants to can get in.
Having said all that, Canada's military capability is very small in comparison to the combatants, and minute compared with the United States. Hopefully this makes them less provocative, which is an advantage in a so-called peacekeeping situation.

We won't know how the Canadian people feel until the body bags begin returning with their sons and husbands. This is a purely political move but it may mean the end of Carney.

Having lived in Canada for many years off and on ...I can tell you all the Canucks are very dependent on America for their safety...they joke about calling up their rowboats to patrol their borders....at sea...and Americans to patrol their land borers....they have been bullied by their leftie government to be compliant for years...and they resent America's strength.....

Do the Russians feel the same about NATO expansion?

So... if Russia decides to lobby a few cruise missiles at Canada, is the US obligated to defend Canada? Canada is volunteering to be slapped around by Russia. As are multiple NATO countries.
This could involve us whether we like it or not, due to European virtue signaling.
Im rapidly approaching acceptance of Russia conquering Ukraine. That might be the cleanest result resetting the map to the 1990's.
Do I like it? No. But this war has been a never ending expensive boondoggle since day 1.

#17, well put. (No sarcasm). The answer to your question is yes. Russia doesn't want NATO on it's borders. Neither do I. Expanding NATO to Russia's borders was a bad idea, and it undermined the nature of the alliance: There is nothing North Atlantic about Slovakia.
Having buffer states between Russia and NATO has distinct advantages for all concerned. By the same logic, having Russia view its neighbors as buffet states it can devour at will doesn't help anyone. And there is a clear difference between adding a country to a defensive alliance at its request, and invading a country with the goal of adding its territory to yours.

The Catch-22 here is that Canada is committing its peacekeepers as a postwar presence. If the war never ends, that doesn't have to happen.
