On Tuesday, CBS released a preview of an interview that will air on “Sunday Morning” in which Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he was disappointed in Republican’s so-called “big beautiful bill,” heralded by President Donald Trump. Musk said, “So, you know, I was like, disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not decrease it and undermines the work the DOGE team is doing.” Correspondent David Pogue said, “I actually thought that when this big beautiful bill came along, I mean, like, everything he’s done on DOGE gets wiped out in the first year.”

As he should be! The administration and Congress used DOGE for what? For Musk and his brand to be maligned? None of what DOGE identified to cut spending has come to fruition!!! Hope the senate does SOMETHING MORE USEFUL THAN TEH HOUSE!!!

I have a sinking feeling. Is PDJT being sabotaged through the back door ? Congresscritters will include his tax cuts to appease him, but use it as a smokescreen to pad their continued, out of control spending? The holdout Repubs are looking more principled than ever.

Elon is still questionable for me. I can't get past this feeling I get when I think of the technology he's involved in such as AI. AI is too one world-ish for me. I also cringe with President Trump's support of AI and Stargate. While AI may serve some good now, the more the boundaries of AI increases (ASI), the more dangerous and all powerful it will become. I love what Elon's done with DOGE, but the waste, fraud, and abuse still seems like peanuts to me. He's only found $170 billion, and it appears to be focused on cuts (DOE and SD withstanding) in certain areas of spending. It's government, the size and reach of federal government, that needs to be cut. Nobody seems to want to do that. Besides $170 billion is peanuts, so of course it will be wiped out the first year of a massive spending budget, aka government boondoggle. Even Trump talks of transferring money from one entity to another rather than stopping the spending, period (eg. money from Harvard to trade schools). The race to AI dominance is worldwide. I can't help but feel like there's some rope-a-dope going on. Congress isn't even hiding that they are business as usual with a little con on the side.

I am concerned about the spending cuts too, it's the spending that has gotten us into the mess we're in, and Biden made it worse, but if the tax cuts are not passed and made permanent then once again we the people will be screwed. Also given CBS's penchant for selective edititing I would be wary of the televised interview, we all remember their attempt at making Kamala lool like she had a brain and made sense.

I understand very much what Elon Musk is saying. Yet, I also understand that when something has deteriorated and is now in need of fixing, it isn't going to be cheap. In my humbled opinion, it is a necessary step to evaluate how much money is being spent, where it went, and start fixing the process. It just seems that government, whether it be federal, state, or city, has forgotten that they serve the American people.

Allegedly, this bill authorizes no spending, just some cuts and some tax cuts. So critics are allegedly premature. That said, when the spending bill comes, I doubt the rinos will do anything but spend. Rinos are worse than democrats. They have declared war on Paxton, kicking him out of the TX House yesterday bc they are mad he will unseat Cornhole.

I think it’s false to say this bill wipes out everything DOGE did. USAID is gone, billions in contracts have been cancelled. The Treasury Department now has to enter a mandatory budget code for their expenditures. The list goes on. The reality is that we have very small majorities in Congress. Not enough to blow big holes in spending. Let’s take what we can get and instead of punishing Republicans try electing more of them. It’s the only way.

If Musk is disappointed with the spending in this bill, I am sure so is PDT. It passed 215/214. Any more trimming and slashing and the whole thing would have gone down. Trump is a realist. That is how he got this far in politics.

The saying in business 'you have to spend money to make money' may apply generally...in business. But the Government is not a business. It exists, or once did, to serve the public...not 'service' it. Yet the Grabberment (grabber mentality) AKA Congress, will NEVER slow spending. Why? Because those who dip their gourds---or better yet pan for gold---in the money river, will do nothing to stem its flow.

Any time a bill is big it can't be beautiful. There is all kinds of ugly spending in it. It sounds like the Republicans wanted to pass a bill to extend Trump's tax cuts but then they added a bunch of spending to it. Trump's DOGE is just like any other administration's plan to cut waste and abuse. They call attention to it but then the Congress (and lobbyists) muck it up.

I too am concerned about the "BIG beautiful bill" for a number of reasons. First of all, it requires the raising of the debt ceiling in order to pass it, which republicans have shown in the past have been happy co-conspirators in doing that, because of spending on pet projects without reducing the size of government. Another concern is that while DOGE found money from fraud, inefficient record keeping, and not transparency on WHERE the money from your pockets was going, it also showed culpability for unconstitutional and preferential spending for demonrat socialist marxist projects leading to graft and even MORE CORRUPTION that has gone unnoticed for 60 years that would NEVER have been found without DOGE. Only a small amount of the problem has been determined, and some of the money encumbered is for long-term projects that need to be curtailed and were somehow produced by executive tyranny without regard for Congressional Oversight (which has also now been proven to be a joke) along with government agencies like the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) being nothing more than a rubber stamp for MORE spending. The socialists and gop/rinos have shown their colors so don't expect much if anything being cut or reduced. Musk and company have only alerted U.S. but cannot take any ACTION. Rather than knuckle under and risk being called every name in the book like Massie and Roy hoping to scale back legislation before voting on it, expect more of the same lack of fiscal discipline. The Senate fat cats almost never do anything that benefits the people but did vote 100-0 to stop taxing tips, so the possibility exists that even that small token will end up drowning from inaction by the slow-walking Senate to actually do something.

When your house is hit by a hurricane, you need to spend money immediately to patch the holes in the roof and mend any structural damage or you will lose it completely. Then you get out the paint and replant the flowers. DOGE has done a great job but here we sit with a depleted military and the broken infrastructure that has needed fixing for decades. Our electrical grid is a patchwork of outdated equipment and ancient computers, as is our air traffic control system. All of this while keeping the economy humming. It's a huge balancing act and many in Congress don't understand anything beyond making their voters happy in time for the next election. AI is in its infancy and critical mistakes made now will haunt us forever if we don't do it right, while making sure that other countries also do it right.

Me, too. But with a slim, slim vote margin in both the House and Senate, and a bunch of RINOs in those 'margins' this is about the best that can be done. Never lose sight of the fact that "Politics is the art of the possible."....... this is the best that is possible right now. And it's better than what we will have without it.

I've criticized the failure to include the DOGE cuts in the bill as well but Stephen Miller's response has been that rules governing reconciliation bills forbid their inclusion and the DOGE cuts will be accomplished in subsequent appropriation action.

Goodbye Tariffs? 1 reply
Posted by Dreadnought 5/30/2025 12:14:09 AM Post Reply
Big news yesterday and today on the tariff front. Yesterday, the U.S. Court of International Trade ruled that President Trump’s “Worldwide and Retaliatory Tariffs” and “Trafficking Tariffs” on goods from Mexico and Canada exceed the authority delegated to him by Congress. The administration immediately appealed that ruling, and today it was stayed by the Federal Circuit pending further litigation. So the tariffs remain in place, for the moment. The Constitution gives Congress, not the president, the power to “lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises,” and to “regulate Commerce with foreign Nations.” By statute, Congress has delegated some of that authority to the president.

Still to come, Each jurisdiction listed will receive formal notification of its non-compliance and all potential violations of federal criminal statutes. If you a curious, you can check for yourself to see which localities in your state(s) are included. Some states, I noticed, do not have a listing.

This is big news: in recent decades, it has been just about impossible to get anything done in the United States. The permitting process for infrastructure projects of all kinds has become, essentially, a never-ending gauntlet that few projects can survive. There are several reasons for this, one of which is the expansive reading that activists and courts have given the National Environmental Policy Act. NEPA requires permitting agencies to analyze environmental impacts before proceeding with projects. That is a feel-good principle that, in practice, has often brought progress to a screeching halt.

Donald Trump began his presidency with the shortest of honeymoons. To give you an idea of just how set people's opinion of Trump really is, a "honeymoon" for him is an evenly divided country. He inched into positive territory on some polls, and given pollsters' history of getting Trump's support wrong, it's not unfair to assume that his support really did exceed 50% by a small margin.
