SCOTUS Quietly Weighs Major Case On Candidates’
Standing To Challenge Election Rules

There’s a lesser-known case pending before the Supreme Court on Thursday that could have major implications for future U.S. elections. As part of their Thursday conference, the justices will consider whether to take up a case involving questions surrounding federal candidate litigation of state election regulations. Known as Bost v. Illinois State Board of Elections, the Supreme Court will have the opportunity to offer a definitive ruling on the issue of whether a federal candidate who has demonstrated substantiated factual allegations has standing to challenge state-enacted election laws and rules. (At least four justices must agree to hear a case before it can be considered by the full court.)

Remember in 2020, when so many court petitions filed by Republicans over inconsistencies in state balloting procedures were denied, declaring the plaintive had "no standing?" This would grant that crucial 'standing' in the future.

If I understand current law, liberals and Democrsts automatically have legal "standing." Conservatives and Republicans do not, in any instance.

Senate Votes to Consider Repealing California’s

The U.S. Senate has decided to discuss a resolution that would roll back California’s stringent vehicle emission standards mandating the phasing out of gas-powered cars. On May 21, the Senate voted 51–46 to consider H.J.Res.88, a resolution seeking to nullify waivers granted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to California that allow the state to implement its Advanced Clean Cars (ACC) II regulations. The Clean Air Act bans states from establishing their own tailpipe emission standards for trucks and cars. However, California can get an exemption to the ban if it gets a waiver from the EPA. Following thewaiver approval, California can implement its own emissions rules.

In a floor speech before the vote on the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" early Thursday morning, House Speaker Mike Johnson called out his Democrat colleagues for what their ‘no’ votes would signify.“Let the record show that when the House Democrats vote in a few moments, this is what they'll be voting for,” he said. “Their vote will show that they are apparently for the largest tax increase in the history of our country. They will be voting for when they vote against this bill, waste, fraud, and abuse. They will be voting against safer communities, American energy dominance and American strength on the world stage.”

The House of Representatives in the early morning hours of May 22 approved legislation to enact President Donald Trump’s agenda, capping off weeks of negotiations and uncertainty within the House Republican conference. The House narrowly approved the bill in a party-line 215-214 vote. The vote came just before 7:00 a.m. after an all-night debate in the lower chamber. The bill now heads to the Senate which is expected to make revisions to the package. Any differences will then need to be resolved in conference before moving to Trump’s desk.(snip)Johnson said the bill reflects the conservative values of the party, including limited government, individual freedom, and fiscal responsibility.

Several weeks ago, Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson seemingly suggested that conservative criticisms of Democrats’ ongoing judicial coup against President Trump amounted to “attacks on our democracy.” Not even a month later, the junior justice is effectively endorsing real leftist suppression of democracy. On Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court granted temporary relief to Maine Republican Rep. Laurel Libby. As The Federalist’s Breccan Thies previously reported, the state rep had her “voting and speaking rights” stripped by Maine’s Democrat-controlled House after she published “a social media post where she called out a male athlete, who claimed to be a female, for stealing a title from females at a sporting event.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the creation of a special review panel on Tuesday to investigate the Biden administration’s “chaotic” 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal. “President Trump and I have formally pledged full transparency for what transpired during our military withdrawal from Afghanistan. The Department of Defense has an obligation, both to the American people and to the warfighters who sacrificed their youth in Afghanistan, to get to the facts,” Hegseth wrote in an agency memo released on Tuesday. In his directive, Hegseth disclosed that the Defense Department has been conducting “a review” throughout the past three months of what the secretary described as a “catastrophic event in our military’s history.”

In the last two and a half years, eight sitting members of the House or Senate have died in office. Every time, it's been a Democrat. Rep. Gerry Connolly of Virginia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, died on Wednesday at 75, after a battle with esophageal cancer. He's the third House Democrat to die in the last three months. If Democrats had gained a narrow 1 or 2-seat majority in 2024, they would have lost it by now. The streak of Democratic deaths could just be something of a coincidence. After all, there are plenty of elderly

I have no idea how to comprehend this act of incompetence. Last Friday, severe storms rolled into St. Louis. A tornado touched down and struck the northern part of the city—and there were no warning sirens. The tornado alarm system was never activated. It wasn’t due to a computer glitch. It was human error: the emergency management director, Sarah Russell, essentially forgot to turn it on, but it gets worse: the staff wasn’t even in the office. Russell contacted the fire department to initiate the system, but this was a shambolic failure

Those of us who were long convinced that aides were hiding the president’s cognitive decline weren’t cynical enough. In March, President Donald Trump announced a full halt to U.S. foreign aid to South Africa, citing the government’s racially charged abuse of white Afrikaner farmers. He blasted the regime for orchestrated land seizures and escalating violence, calling the country “a bad place to be right now.” At the same time, he offered a fast track to U.S. citizenship for South African farmers and their families seeking safety from persecution. The black-led South African government has flatly denied any campaign of anti-white violence, brushing off the attacks as fiction and painting any criticism as offensive. But the facts on the ground — brutal murders, farm invasions,

Several years ago, I was getting ready to travel to Austin, Texas, for a conference. Just out of curiosity, I looked into getting there by train. Amtrak was the only option, of course. My trip to Austin would take 36 hours, and the route was something like Atlanta to Washington to Chicago to Austin. It would also cost twice as much as flying. Needless to say, Amtrak was totally out as an option. Despite its impracticality and expense, the left loves to romanticize train travel. I think much of it because left-wing media types all live in the Acela corridor, where passenger rail infrastructure is plentiful.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended the Trump administration's reorganization of what he calls the U.S. "foreign aid industrial complex" during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Tuesday. Rubio said previously at USAID, "only 12 cents of every dollar was reaching the recipient." "We still will provide more foreign aid, more humanitarian support, than the next 10 countries combined... and far more than China," he said, disputing the argument that the U.S. is handing over soft power to China by cutting foreign aid. "China doesn’t do humanitarian aid. China does predatory lending."
