Republican senators Rand Paul, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski all voted in support of removing President Trump’s ability to impose tariffs under national security grounds. However, the overall vote failed in the Senate 49-49. The vote was mostly symbolic for the upper chamber as the House previously approved a rule to block any effort to restrict President Trump’s trade authority, and the White House would obviously veto any bill that might pass. However, the vote does showcase the Republicans who are in support of multinational corporations outsourcing jobs and manufacturing. The bill was originally created by Republican Senator Rand Paul and Democrat Senator Ron Wyden.

I hate seeing Paul lined up with those other two, but he's becoming more and more of a disappointment to me.

Rand is more than “lined up”. It’s his bill. And I don’t understand either.

I'm getting tired of seeing Rand on the wrong side. He need to realized Trump is the opportunity he's been waiting for since his father drummed it into him.

I strongly suspect Rand Paul's not in this to stop tarrifs. He's likely in it because the Constitution gives the tax and tarrif powers to Congress, not the President. Congress, in a typical abdication of its actual responsibilities, has since delegated some of its authority on tariffs to the President by passing laws. However, the delegated authority to raise tariffs is only supposed to be used to address national security and economic emergencies.
What President Trump is doing is not that.

It was symbolic because a real vote would never hit the 60-vote margin required for cloture... there aren't enough back-stabbing RINOs (only McConnell, Murkowski, and Collins come to mind) and malcontents like Paul to make that happen. Like others, I'm surprised by Paul here, too, and I'm beginning to wonder if he's butt-hurt over losing the 2016 primaries. One would think he'd be lobbying PDJT and Secretary Bessent for that Fed audit...

The RINO Hall Of Fame members, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, as usual. Lost Souls.

I don't think the writer's of the Constitution ever imagined the modern political elite class in this country today. They are no better than the British aristocracy who milked this country for every dime they could get and told us peasants to sod off.
Congress has zero interest in solving any problems or protecting the American people. You can't run on an issue you solved. You also can't fleece the American people to the toon of trillions if you have no huge problem or threat that must be addressed NOW. All of that problem solving and safety stuff has fallen to the Executive, for good or for ill.

Rand, you're going to be sorry one day when the tariffs make Americans prosperous. You had a good relationship with President Trump, don't ruin it.

Ditto, #2. He seems to have swallowed whole the cod swallop the economists preached about "trade deficits don't matter" back when they were instructed to promote US trade deficits.
If one were to think it through logically, trade deficits obviously must matter or no one would work- we'd just buy foreign goods and pay for them with printed money or by selling our assets. Both of which have been the MO of the pro trade deficit crowd. I'm unable to understand Paul's reasoning.

I see the usual Three Stooges tried but couldn't put on the brakes. Collins and Murkowski are the twin looney toons and sometimes I agree with Paul but lately not so much. I do not understand the fine nuances of this tariff struggle but I am willing to give Pres. Trump the benefit of the doubt and more time.

National security and economic emergencies? Check and double check. Since congress will NEVER push back on globalists, someone has to hit the fire alarm. I would say allowing corrupt congress and past administrations to offshore VITAL industries, is a security issue. Like life saving drugs and key military supplies and equipment. I don't want to depend on countries that are at war with us, like China, to make the drugs American citizens depend on. I don't want to watch another manufacturing industry, like autos, be destroyed by China or Mexico or Canada. Rand Paul will NEVER get one negotiation done with ANY country on earth. This President has already lined up over 70 countries to make fair deals for the USA, instead of the legalist robbery of the past 50 years.

Of course the usual two NON-Republican frauds. I am so sick of Rand Paul. Libertarians are such pains in the butt about 30% of the time.

The Democrats, Paul, Collins and Murkowski just love America's dependence upon the CCP. Tariffs remove that dependency and brings manufacturing and critical drug making back to America.

The looming threats to our economy and financial security; our wealth and resources torn away and carried off, as by jackals, by our enemies, rivals and 'allies'; loss of our manufacturing base, theft of our intellectual property, foreign ownership of our farmlands...these ARE national security issues. If politics is 'war by other means' these attacks on the USA are definitely war. And tariffs are defense against 'war by other means'.

All three of these holdouts have lost their perspective: this isn't about THEIR constituents. This is about OUR country. We voted for what Trump is doing. Get on board or get out.

The two wicked sisters are always guaranteed opposition to America but the lunacy of Rand Paul sometimes goes either way, depending upon the position of the moon.

Rand is just like his daddy. All hat, no cattle.
Ron always ranted against the spending bills he would then vote for. His district always got their share of the pork.
