A Big Apple straphanger is in critical condition after he was shoved onto Manhattan subway tracks and struck by an incoming 1 train — with the horrifying attack caught in disturbing footage.
In what cops are calling a random attack, an unidentified 45-year-old man was at the 18th Street station shortly after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when the hooded thug pushed him onto the tracks.
Cops responded to a 911 call and the victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he is in critical condition but stable, the NYPD said.

I guess this wasn't the train on which Gov Hochul was filming her 'The Subway Is Safe' video.

So these other numb nuts just stand there and watch the show. They were certainly close enough to act on the pusher. Are people just wimps today or is this the Daniel Penney effect we’re seeing?

Back in the 60s-70s I lived in Manhattan with my father when I wasn’t away at school and I used to ride the subways by myself starting at age 16. Never had a single problem. Why anyone visits or still lives in that shiitehole is beyond me.

The governor, mayor and Manhattan DA Bragg find this an acceptable level of violence. But then they all have armed protection.

You could not pay me enough to ride a NYC subway. This can be fixed but only if NYC voters stop voting for Democrats.

It appeared as if the man who was pushed was engrossed in a paper. Given the amount of crime in the subway, it's necessary to be constantly aware of your surroundings. Standing on the edge of the platform may not be wise either.
I spent a lot of time in NYC during the 70s/80s and my head was constantly on "swivel". Even back then I didn't ride the subway by myself.

THanks to Gov. Hochul's new congestion pricing for tolls into the city, more people may now be forced to ride mass transit. This will give more targets for the crazies to push onto the tracks, light on fire, slash, and rob. Good thing Hochul put more cameras in the subway so that everyone can watch the mayhem. Of course, the cameras don't actually do anything to stop the mayhem and crime. They just record it for Tik Tok and YouTube viewing (probably another revenue source for the State/City if they get enough views).

Per #6, I just spent a week in NYC riding the subways. You would not believe the number of people - particularly young women - who stand next to the tracks with earbuds in, totally engrossed in whatever is on their smartphone. No visual or audial awareness of their surroundings. Standing on a subway platform has to be one of the most potentially hazardous situations to be in.

"According to the sources, the shoving suspect was charged with assault in June 2019 after slamming a cop to the ground on Flushing Avenue when the officer spotted him acting disorderly, leaving the cop with a back injury.
He also has an open case in Brooklyn on assault, harassment and weapons possession charges for an incident on Oct. 12.
Sources said he was released without bail in another case in 2020 despite prosecutors asking he be held. It is unclear what the charges were in that case."
Tuesday’s incident is the latest in a series of transit attacks in the Big Apple, including two slashings on Sunday
48felony assaults in the prior 28days.

Clearly a "hate crime/race crime" in that it happened on the subway, and involved disparate races...right?

Anywhere in the world that we ride a subway, we stand back or sit back with our backs to a wall so no stranger can get behind us. Simple defensive common sense.

Closed carry would slow this down.
NY dwellers are defenseless. They like it that way, so they face the consequences.

#10 has it right. I don't care enough now about the Broadway plays, the fine dining etc.so I will never go back I was there in my teens some 65 years ago, and it was exciting and fun. It's certainly exciting now...nothing like thinking you could be murdered by some thug or murderous loon at any time. NYC officials have been somewhat closed mouthed about the spiral into crime of a once great city, but their tax base is leaving and the producing citizens are heading to safer and greener pastures. This will leave the people without the means or money to leave. The low income, the welfare recipients, and the criminals. Well, the wealthy who voted for this are moving out to leave NYC in a death spiral.

Whoa, we're told by Hochul that the subway is safe. Yeah right Kathy, yeah right. It's obvious she doesn't ride it. Ride the trains at your own risk. Don't stand near the tracks. Be aware of your surroundings. Your ride may be your last ride. Don't believe a word Hochul says.

I had a “random attack” years ago in NYC when a Black man sucker punched me on the chest and left me flat on the pavement. A little old lady helped me get up and said it happened to her all the time. The decades change but the racial hatred remains.
