Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos has reportedly told the newspaper that it needs to add more conservative columnists in a bid to make the paper more balanced.
The directive comes as the paper has lost more than hundreds of thousands of subscribers over the last several days after Bezos killed the Editorial Board’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.
NPR reported that by midday on Monday, more than 200,000 people canceled their subscriptions, more than 8% of the company’s total number of subscribers.
Bezos has told people at the newspaper that he wants to grow the paper’s reach with conservatives,

A non endorsement of anyone by the LA Times WaPo and noe USA Today means only ONE thing. Their silent endorsement of Trump- If for no other reason then liberals, don't read especially after Kamala has destroyed the world. .

If only there were a class of talking heads, self professed Repubbies who campaign as conservatives yet ride the progressive vote wagon pretty much all their days in office?? Praying they're all looking for new jobs next week. Calling RINO 9-1-1!

I think The reason why these papers aren't endorsing Kamala is because they don't want the backlash if she is the POTUS because they know she will destroy the Country because she has no idea what in the world she is doing.
Secondly, I think the WAPO can redeem themselves, why not? Hire Sara Carter as Editor, Hire REAL Conservatives, allow them to manage content, tell the truth and dump all of the liberal propaghanda.

Well, WaPo is going to lose subscribers, because the only subscribers they had remaining were all leftists. When you have catered only to leftists and the "elite", as Bezos terms them - then you stop, what else could happen?

a step in the right direction. Bezos is mega-rich but is still the businessman who created Amazon by addressing
what people want. after the wave of cancellations after non-endorsement i imagine he wanted a broader product appeal to stabilize the balance sheet- and saw an opportunity to open the door to regaining respect. we'll see if he insists on eradicating bias in news articles. actions, not words, tell the story. so far he has non-endorsement policy, acceptance of resignations of true believer staff and statement of intent to include more conservative thought. time will tell.

Would a real conservative be willing to work for the wapo? Also would a real conservative be willing to pay for a subscription to the wapo? I think there are tough times ahead for that rag. Maybe they can sell it to Elon Musk for $1. He could turn it around.

All the newspapers are fixable but it means wiping out the current editorial boards and hiring real journalists, if they can find any, not partisan hack leftists.
It means telling the dumb genz and millennial wokie women cry baby staffers their days of spreading lies and their personal agenda as news/fact are over.
Good luck. I doubt any of them will go that far but if they do then redemption is around the corner.

Newspapers do not need more conservative columnists. They need to get rid of the liberal columnists masquerading as news reporters.

Hint, hire people over age 40 who can demonstrate the ability to tie their own shoes. A man-bun or tattoos and face jewelry is an automatic rejection.

It's looking good folks...but...let's stay on top of this to big to rig drive....WE must be determined and ready for anything...the democrats are desperate and will try anything...so let's stay focused and bring this drive home to the White House....nothing is out of bounds to the DC rats...and WE must be prepared for everything and anything....even trying to keep President Trump out of the Oval Office when he wins...they are masters at deception and dirty tricks....

I read the Bezos op ed. Kind of difficult to read because it was largely dishonest. He started with the point that a newspaper must be both accurate and believed by the public to be accurate. The analogy he used was voting machines: they must be accurate and people must believe them to be accurate.
Somehow, though, he missed the point that people believe the newspaper to be accurate when it is in fact accurate. He tried to weave the point that that the WaPo is accurate but that people have merely lost faith that it is.
Of course, his audience includes the employees of the WaPo and it is his investment, so I guess for him to say "we've got to quit being mere propagandists for the Dim party" would be more than he could bring himself to say. After all, the hot-headed flighty staff might all leave and then where would his investment be.
Newspapers are dying, and there may not be any conservative newsprint journos left, having all moved on to the new media. But his ingenuine op ed was exactly the type of writing that has caused the old media to lose credibility. He got in a swipe at podcasts which 'do no research' vs the great reporters at the WaPo who 'deserve to be believed.'
So is he mired in delusion or just trying to con his employees and the remaining subscribers?

There are lots of candidates for one or more conservative columns.
There's Mitch - - and Liz Cheney - - Adam Kinziger - - Mitt Delecto - - ¡JEB! - - Krispie Kristie - - Karl Rove - - even a ghost-written one by John McQueeg. Yup - - lots of "conservative" candidates out there - - all of them ready to bash President Trump.

I read the full Op Ed too and a sampling of readers comments (over 17,000 at last count). Bezo's biggest problem is the Wa Po readers are overwhelmingly immersed in Trump Hatred and drunk on Leftist ideology. They cannot accept the fact that the WaPo's reporting is grossly biased and often detached from reality.

All comments made good points but #27 hit the nail on the head for me. Those on the left don't do well outside their information comfort zone. If their opinions are not regularly validated by the media or they encounter people who hold different opinions they truly do lose their minds. While we conservatives have no problem delving into left-leaning media in order to understand what they're thinking those on the left are too afraid to even dip a toe into right-leaning media. They are content to live in a bubble and don't want that bubble to burst. They'd be unhappy with any media which isn't 100 % far left 100% of the time.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Just a reminder - after the folks at the NY Slimes got gobsmacked by Hillary’s loss in 2016, the owner vowed to be more balanced in the future. Anyone seen an iota of evidence of that happening?

Bezos revealed his alignment with the censorship state when Amazon put Parler out of business in 2021. Before that time, Amazon was my first stop for on-line shopping. Now it's my last resort. Oh, and Jeff, here's a clue for you: There aren't 200,000 conservatives living in the DC area that will make up the lost lib subscribers. Nice try, though. If you're smart you'll cut your losses from the Compost and get back to working only businesses you know well.
