Marxism was easily the most destructive political theory ever to be put into practice. Over the course of the 20th century, it was responsible for purposefully killing well over 100 million people. To put that evil into context, the slave trade into the United States was 400,000 people, the number of Congolese dead during the reign of King Leopold II of Belgium is estimated as high as 10 million, and the total number of deaths during WWII was 73 million. But communism beats them all combined. And most of those numbers came from governments killing their own citizens! I mention all of this because the father of Communism, Karl Marx,

One lazy, angry, bitter slob caused immeasurable damage to the world. When Ayn Rand wrote about the moochers and the looters, Marx was the prime example.

Probably an alcoholic and mentally ill, yet millions of people follow what he says as if it were gospel.

fwiw i think Marx was just some chappie, and that the so called left is all those who long for a world without God, an unsupervised playground where they can beat up everybody else, and Marx simply gave them a vision of history without God that they could pretend to work from, a framework to tell everybody else where they fit in.

What is tragic is that the future victims of Communism are often its advocates to begin with, whether those deaths are due to government purges or economic collapse. Further, many people live under communism in poverty. The government may support them but only at a minimal level.
A major complaint of Communism is that there are those under Capitalism that benefit greatly while most receive much less. At first glance this is true. The leaders of industry are certainly the locomotive engines of Capitalism. They provide the vision and organization to pull the whole train (the rest of the people) forward. Such leaders have all the fuel and are responsible for the direction and safety of the train. The rest of the people are pulled along in their wake.
So, you might say that all the "cars" get far less than the engine. However, without the engine, the cars go nowhere and have nothing. Is it not reasonable and fair to well compensate a leader that keeps 10,000 employees busy and well paid?
Further, the communists complain that the Capitalist leaders are greedy and uncaring. This was probably more true in the past than today. Early Entrepreneurs had to struggle to survive. Money was not as readily available and any glitch could kill a company. They didn't appreciate labor as much and underpaid them. But as Capitalism grew, companies recognized that well compensated workers built better products and a partnership was built. The leadership of the company is rightfully focused on the goals and overall health of the company but know that the workforce was a vital part of their success.
This is Enlightened Self Interest. To succeed, Capitalists need laborers that contribute to the company's success. Workers need to be aware of their role and trained to contribute in the best way and therefore receive larger amounts of compensation based on their contribution. And, the company prospers.
The key thing in a well working capitalist system is that all participants are satisfying their self interest, yet, the outcome of all that effort comes together for the whole. Plus, good and services are delivered for the masses. And, because of the competition inherent in the free market, there is a constant process of improvement. Better/cheaper products sell better.
NONE of these benefits are a planned or required part of Capitalism and the process can be chaotic but overall, the best outcome for all, with some specific exceptions, comes through Capitalism.
Communism delivers an outcome similar to Marx himself; loud, angry, rude, violent, drunken, irresponsible, smelly, malnourished, poor, and ultimately ... a failure.

Given that we have stopped teaching history in our schools, most people under 50 think Karl is one of the Marx Brothers.
