The total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024 is now just a few days away. Millions of people will be able to step outside and see a very rare spectacle: The moon moving in front of the sun, either partially or completely blocking its light.
Here's what you need to know to enjoy the event. Total solar eclipse path...
The April 2024 solar eclipse will be visible, at least in part, to nearly everyone in the U.S. But the path of totality – where the moon will completely block the sun – is a 115-mile-wide region that stretches from southern Texas up through Ohio, then over to northern Maine.

With solar eclipses in the recent news, beetle-browed (and allegedly serious) people have warned us not to stare at the sun with unguarded naked eyes. Thanks for the advice, paramecia. Now get thee back into thy aqueous substrate. Long ago Grumpy Old Man (Dana Carvey on SNL) said (approximately), "In my day we'd just stare at the sun until our heads burst into flames. And we liked it. We loved it!" Carvey was kidding. Most of today's "journalists" are not doing a comedy routine.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I can't wait for this to be over.

If you're in the path of the eclipse, it will get dark for a few minutes. If you're not, it might get a little dimmer for a short period of time, or you might not notice anything at all.

Even a little darkness (much less than at night time) is an impending apocalypse to the left

Can you imagine that people are so attuned to a Gd ordained event?
People can't change the trajectory of the sun, moon or Earth.
Will people acknowledge the power of a Creator who make these events possible?

I am in a rural county just west of Austin and in the direct center of the path of the eclipse. There are at least 100,000 people expected to come here. Every hotel, motel, RV park and Airbnb within 100 miles has been booked for weeks and people are renting out camping and RV parking spaces in their pastures for $750 per night. The current forecast is for rain.
I would like to see the eclipse (the last total eclipse over Central Texas was in 1878), but I won't be upset if most of the 100,000 people decide to go somewhere else.

Am I the only person in the country who could not care less about this?

I think it is cool on a scientific level. Maybe it will remind people how interesting science can be and instill that love again to school children. We are at the epicenter with our exposure lasting almost 4 minutes. Schools are on a home computer day because of the traffic. They are expecting thousands and thousands of extra people on the roads which will make a mess of school transportation. So I'm excited. If you want to watch, watch. If you don't care then don't. None of us will ever have to deal with this situation again so just go with the flow. Enjoy, ignore, whatever works for you. Hundreds of activities to partake in if you wants.

I just checked weather forecast. Rain is predicted for Sunday through Wednesday. Looks like the eclipse is going to last a lot longer than a few minutes. A lot of people are likely to be disappointed after going through so much effort and expense to see it. I'll just walk out on my front porch and check it out for them.

#6 - $750 a night per spot! I bet you can get a lot of RV's in one pasture in Texas! Ain't capitalism grand! That should help plump up the rancher's nest egg!!! Bummer about the rain. All those folks disappointed. The RV's will really mess up the pasture. But the greenbacks will help ease the pain.
I don't think northern California will have much dimming. We're dim enough on our own! Hope its exciting for those in the total zone.
