The Blame Game

One of the stranger aspects of the long-running American affirmative action debate is that both supporters and critics of racial quotas seldom admit in public how scarce blacks would be in cognitively elite institutions without the now traditional massive thumb on the scale in their favor. Liberal racial preference advocates tend to argue as if black representation in prestige positions in percentages close to their share of the population (12 percent or 14 percent, depending on whether or not you count individuals who identify as black and another race) merely requires tie-breakers favoring African-Americans among extremely equal applicants

In certain professions, we want the best and the brightest. For example, who wants a lazy doctor, or one from the lower rungs of capability? Yet here we are, having arrived at DIE, (illegally it seems), scraping the streets for bottom dwellers and telling the best too bad.

When I worked in the government, we were mandated to have as many blacks as the percentage of blacks in the town. Didn't matter their qualifications. Civil Rights in the south.

Hard fact. A small shift of the center point (average) a pair of otherwise identical bell curves will result, at the limits...specifically the far right edge of the curve which are the extra smart top 2% people, in the leftward shifted curve (blacks) having essentially no members, where the white curve has 2%. The writer from Cambridge, Mr. Cofnas, is precisely correct. But, in England, truth is no defense. Top notch black engineers are, IME, an extremely ly tiny group. I've known and worked with literally hundreds of engineers in a career of 40 years. About ten to twenty were what I would judge as top 2% folks. I've never met a black engineer who was IMO, top notch. Perhaps they are out there, but the ones I worked with were medocre at best, but rapidly promoted in too many cases. I had one black coworker who was pretty sharp, very competent, an applied mathematician, not an engineer. IME, Ben Carson is by far the most intelligent and accomplished błack man that I am aware of. I'm sure there are more, but they are very rare. But.....huge numbers are pushed into positions where they are far beyond where they'd be in a pure meritocracy. Of course, noticing any of this, let alone saying it out loud is "racist" according to the DEI thugs ---- no matter how true.

I'd probably be less hostile to Affirmative Action if we'd just admit there is a gap in cognitive ability and THAT, rather than "institutional racism", is the biggest hurdle to success. I'm tired of having to pretend I don't know something that I observed in elementary school.

In theory, AA sounds workable, but the reality is that performance bars are lowered in order to fill quotas. Saw it too many times in my industry.

Affirmative Action IS Reverse Discrimination, and it is designed by Leftists to make Blacks think they care, when in fact Leftists consider Dark Skinned people their SLAVES! They are STILL really peeved that Lincoln took away their SLAVES!

Those who understand the long history of Mitch McConnell as a Machiavellian-minded Senate Leader well understand how this is playing out. John Thunes prior endorsement of Donald Trump sets the stage. Nikki Haley withdrawing from opposition to Donald Trump, on behalf of the financial and professional political class who underwrote her effort, was a transparent predicate. Now comes the Machiavellian leverage move by Senate Leader Mitch McConnell, who falsely positions his support without conditions as a lull toward a duplicitous intent.

Recently approved vaccines for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) for older adults may be linked to a rare nervous system disorder that causes the body’s immune system to attack its own nerves. In a Feb. 29 meeting of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, health officials presented data that appears to show a slightly elevated rate of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) among people who received RSV vaccines by Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). A data mining alert on Jan. 19 for disproportional reporting was detected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Pfizer’s Abrysvo RSV vaccine and GBS but has not been reported to date for GSK’s RSV vaccine Arexvy,

So, why won’t he commit to vetoing a bill that would require medical practitioners in the state to undergo “unconscious bias” training to keep their medical licenses? Passed by the Democrat-controlled General Assembly last month, Senate Bill 35 aims to force the Virginia Board of Medicine to require health practitioners to complete “unconscious bias” and “cultural competency” training to renew their medical licenses. The bill would also require the board to select certain organizations “that identify and facilitate an evidence-based curriculum to comply with this legislation.”

Any voter who listened to a stump speech from former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley during her primary campaign against Donald Trump -- which she just ended -- was likely to hear a variation of one message: The former president can't win in November because he's been losing a notable minority of Republican voters. Haley was exaggerating. For example, in the 15 GOP states that voted on Super Tuesday, she has gotten less than 20%
