Donald Trump declared that if he is re-elected as president he will “encourage” Russia to “do whatever the hell they want” to any NATO member that does not pay enough for defense. Speaking Saturday at a rally in Conway, South Carolina, the former president recalled that a leader of a “big country” asked if the US might come to their aid if they did not pay their fair share in defense spending within NATO and had come under attack from Moscow. “I said: ‘You didn’t pay? You’re delinquent?’ … ‘No I would not protect you, in fact, I would encourage them to do whatever they want.

Would that include UN headquarters in New York City? If only....
(This is sarcasm, of course I know the UN isn't a NATO member.)

Trump tried to get "old europe's" attention in 2018, but Merkel and Macron blew him off, believing the could cut a deal with Putin rather than pay their "fair share" of NATO. So now, with their backs against the wall, he's giving them the stink eye again. And as he's a master of the lowest form of humor (Saracasm) The TDS sufferers need to get a grip and take the hint -- Old Europe needs to pony up for their defense. In 2018 Trump wanted to move US troops from Germany to Poland because "New Europe" was meeting their NATO commitments.

Those who participated in The Big Steal, either directly or by their silent approval, have no moral high ground here. That includes the Deep State, the Uniparty, the EU, and NATO…among others.

No he didn't....what he did was...he warned our "Brother NATO" members to do their duty, build them selves up in advance the way they are supposed to, not to count upon the USA to provide "Just in time" men and material...as well as monies...when the wolf is already at, or even inside, their own doors.
It's not the first time, he told them this very thing to their faces, out loud and plain, ON CAMERA, from the very first time he met with them. And referenced Russia directly when he did so...called them out for demanding that WE pay for and provide defense FROM Russia TO them while they were spending MORE with Russia than they were spending with us, and failing to meet their prescribed self defensive investments, troop strengths and trainings. Not just militarily either...he called them out for shutting down much of their power/electrical generation capacity and buying it all from Russia instead. Shutting down their oil industries and buying it from Russia, shutting down their own steel industries and buying it from Russia, shutting down their own agriculture and buying it from Russia. Yet expecting US to make up any and every shortfall in case of any glitch or shutdown/slowdown in those supplies.

It might not play well in Brussels. But will certainly play well in Peoria.

He actually said exactly that. It was Trump's sarcastic message to NATO, but of course Democrats and the media will interpret the comment literally and cite it as proof that Trump is a puppet of Putin.

It’s hyperbole, a way of getting attention of very stubborn people. Trump uses it often , get over it.

wish we had moved from germany to poland; perhaps we would have kept hold of --and protected--
poland, hungary, ukraine.

This line is being pushed by Murdoch and other media which want the United States to continue to bear a disproportionate share of the costs of defending Europe.
Trump was not making a promise about what he would
do in his second term. Rather, he described a meeting with NATO leaders during his first term in which he attempted to cajole them into paying their NATO assessments.
The relevant text from the speech is as follows:
"The president of a big country stood up and said 'if we don't pay and we're attacked will you protect us?' I said you didn't pay, you're delinquent? He said 'yes, let's say that happened.'" "No, I would not protect you. In fact, I would encourage them (Russia) to do whatever the hell they want. You gotta pay! You gotta pay your bills."

We have been spending as if we were fighting a world war for 70 years. We have a presence in most of the world. As a result we are over 30 trillion in debt. End it. Europe can defend itself. It appears that their freedom isn't worth much to them anyway, based on how easily most have surrendered it.
