An Army reservist warned a training supervisor that the man who shot more than two dozen people late last month in Lewiston, Maine, was having serious mental health issues and that he could snap and go on a shooting spree. Stalled in polls and buffeted by bad headlines, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s underperforming presidential campaign got a major lift Sunday with the announcement that Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds would endorse him.
By itself, an endorsement of one politician by another is often of extremely limited value in a campaign, but Reynolds is highly popular with Republican voters in Iowa and she has a reputation for hard work — one who could do a more effective job of translating DeSantis’s appeal to her state voters than he has to date.
