The Harris Ranch Tesla Supercharger station is an impressive beast. With 98 charging bays, the facility in Coalinga, California, is the largest charging station in the world. (snip) Superchargers charge vehicles up to the 80% sweet spot in as little as 20 minutes, but to provide that kind of power for nearly 100 bays takes something solar can’t provide — diesel generators.
Investigative journalist Edward Niedermeyer discovered that the station was powered by diesel generators hidden behind a Shell station. Reporters at SF Gate tried to find out how much of the station's electricity was from the generators, but couldn’t get a response from Tesla.

Most of the other EV charging stations are powered by coal.

And when the wind isn't blowing, those big ugly turbines are powered by electricity. Only democrats could come up with this stuff.

I'd like to see all 98 bays charging at full speed. Those diesels would be burning up.

This is the story of the entire 'green' energy scam. All these power stations are coupled with hydrocarbon generating capacity to be of any practical use. And, even though it is irrelevant, experts will tell you that the carbon footprint (whatever that is) of these hybrids is greater than a pure gas powered thermal generating stations. The whole thing is a compete fraud..

The whole idea of Millions of cars being run by electricity is insane at this point in time.
Maybe in 30 o0r 40 years, but to try to force it now is just plain crazy

Diesel Electric Trains are a fantastic way to move great amounts of freight. Diesel Electric Cars are a fantastic waste of resources.

The hotel we stayed at in Tehachapi, California a couple of days ago had 14 EV chargers taking up the closest 14 parking places in front of the parking lot. NONE were occupied when we arrived in the evening to check in, and none were occupied that evening when I went out to get something from the car. The next morning.....NONE were in use when we left.
What a waste.

"Charging vehicles up to the 80% sweet spot....."
Yes. This is a CRITICAL point. If your EV has a claimed 190 mile range.....in reality it does NOT have that range in any normal situation where you can't charge for hours and hours and hours to get fully charged.
An 80 charge can be done at a higher charge rate, and to avoid damage, the charging has drop dramatically in charge rate after that. So, suppose you are putting in 20% charge in 30 minutes. Start at 50% charge, put in 20% to have 70% charge. And then up to 80% in 15 more. BUT....after that you need to charge at a slower rate to avoid overheating and damaging the batteries. So, the next 10% might take two hours, and the final 10% might take another three hours.
So.....charge up to 80% and your actual range will be 80% of the 190, or 152 miles range....don't laugh, you might desperately need that 2 miles.
EVs suck.

They can change a lot of things but the laws of physics are not among those things. I would wager that a huge amount of energy is lost in the conversion and the amount of CO2 produced will be a state secret.

It doesn’t matter if these charging stations are fueled by diesel or coal, it makes these smug leftists FEEL good and that is all that matters. Democrat policies would not exist without “feeling” being a pivotal part of their strategy. These people are nothing more than virtue signaling fools.

Not a problem. CO2 is not a problem, but the danger posed by huge arrays of li-ion battery cells running down the road should be a real concern.

Don’t you know, all those EV drivers are not emitting CO2. It is those evil recharging stations that EV drivers use to recharge their batteries. It is like money laundering. Dirty energy is converted into clean energy so the EV driver is not emitting the CO2. This is environmentalist virtue.
