Barack Obama is often hailed as one of the greatest orators in modern politics. While he had undeniable gifts in that department, as someone who attended a number of his speeches in person, I never quite understood all the praise. Setting aside his career-making “red states, blue states” speech at the 2004 Democratic convention — a plea for political moderation he spent his time in office repudiating — the only memorable things Obama said were either campaign pablum such as “hope and change,” or remarks that were unintentionally revealing. A rumor spread last month suggesting that 14 cities in the United States are planning to ban meat.
The news, which made its rounds mostly on conservative news websites, was that by 2030, the cities seek to achieve zero consumption of meat, zero consumption of dairy, three new clothing items per person each year, zero private vehicle ownership, and one short return airline flight per person every three years.
Close to 100 cities globally have already signed onto the deal. In the United States, this includes Austin, Boston,(snip) the cities aren’t planning to ban meat outright. They’re pushing to reduce meat consumption, with zero consumption being the target.

Work continues to preserve pieces of art made after 2020 unrest
Call it a labor of love, in a northeast Minneapolis warehouse.
“I feel very attached, like connected to these pieces personally,” says Amira McLendon, a University of Minnesota art student. “I didn’t make any of them. But knowing they were from my community is important to me.”
McLendon is an intern with the group ‘Memorialize the Movement.’
This weekend, the organization, founded by Leesa Kelly, is busily archiving and organizing about 1,000 pieces of plywood art..
