Police in Democrat-run Oakland, California, are urging residents to use airhorns as a way of sounding an alarm when criminals strike amid a surge in crime. Crime has risen to a point where police are not only advising the purchase of airhorns but also the placement of “security bars to…doors and windows,” CNN noted.
Burglaries in the city are up 41 percent “and robberies by more than 20 percent.” Oakland resident Toni Bird indicated that she followed the advice of police and now has three airhorns.
So what's the air horn going to do? Alert the police to show up? Sounds like Oakland is heading for street justice, since the police and courts can't do their jobs.

I believe that semi-automatic assault "air horns" are the best for deterring crime. Especially in those places run by Democrats...you know, where criminals are allowed to run free and law-abiding citizens are advised by "police" to lock themselves up behind bars in their "homes".

I can't help but think that the sound of a .45 acp going off as the criminal entered illegally, wouldn't be a deterent. Of course, it's Kalifornia, so unless your connected, you won't be allowed ownership of a .45!

I remember as a Navy sailor being stationed in the Bay Area and having to live in downtown Oakland. Due to Clinton closing down bases during the 90s that base is no longer there but the time I had was a great experience in a long career. My first living in a big city, hot California summers, walking by Lake Merritt, seeing movies like Malcom X and Career Opportunities in a packed theater, having to take the BART to get to work because of my car breaking down, going to nearby San Franscisco to see the sites and dealing with bums asking to money and sleeping in apartment doorways. It was crazy then and now it's gotten worse under democrat mayors since I was there. My advice to anyone living there now. Get yourself an "airhorn" preferably made by Smith $ Wesson or Remington.

I had a young cat that used to sharpen his claws on the stairs. The vet told me to get an air horn and blow it when he misbehaved. It worked all of once, then it became a game to the little jerk. If an air horn won't even deter a cat, who in their right mind would think it will help deter crime?
In case anyone is curious, the cat outgrew his "terrible twos" and became a great pet for the rest of his life.

When I was a kid some bicycles had a little horn you could toot to annoy anyone nearby. Maybe that's what Oaklanders need to try.

Great! Instead of a robbery it becomes a looting when all the thugs come running to join in.

When seconds count, the police are minutes away.
Won't take long for the criminals to figure out to shoot the people with the air horn first.

I’m gonna just go with what our Founding Fathers knew: I have an inalienable right to life,
liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I pray it never happens, but if a criminal puts my life I danger, I’m not gonna rely on an air horn.

8, next time use a water bottle. Very few animals are willing to get blasted with a water spray more than a few times. I left mine on the table the dog was hopping on. Just seeing the bottle was enough to make him stop.
Oakland: I've lived there twice over the last 25 years. It was always a dirty ugly crime ridden pit. A friend of mine who lived there for most of the last ten years finally left and moved to the suburbs because he couldn't take how much worse it has become. He had homeless guys basically take over his backyard at night and dump his garbage every week looking for cans.

Security bars on the front door are a sure and immediate sign that I would never buy or live in that neighborhood. They signal blight.

Wouldn't use of an airhorn pose an unwarranted risk to the intruder's hearing? Leave it to some Kalifornia judge to make that ruling.

Better check the laws first. Cops might come by and give you a ticket for noise pollution.

In many states, police urge residents to use their legally carried handguns "if targeted by criminals".
How sad and pathetic to live in a state where this is the 'best option' for self defense. No defense at all, basically.

You voted for this, Oakland. You demanded your police be defunded. Now you can figure out how to live with the results.
