BOOM! Ron DeSantis Privately Tells Corporate
Donors He Is Against U.S Tariffs on Chinese Goods

This is the big one. The Economic Policy is the distinct and singular policy at the core of Make America Great Again. The MAGA coalition is centered around the principles of America First economics, and Ron DeSantis has just admitted he does not support them. CTH has long warned about Ron DeSantis’ economic policy being driven by the donors who fund him. When he was in congress, DeSantis voted in support of Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) for President Obama, and DeSantis voted in support of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement (TPP). These are the trade policies supported by the Club for Growth who was congressman DeSantis’ biggest funder.

Cutting through the choreographed astroturf that brought good old boy photo-ops at the rodeo with his family, servng beer at a local watering hole, fluff and stuff, we finally get policy. I don’t like what I see and I didn’t know he ever supported Obama in anything. Did you?

This event could not have been more secret. And no media availability. Preaching to his choir. Then off to a similar secret do for Silicon Valley donors. FTA: Keep in mind also that Donald Trump recently announced the sweeping “Economic Agenda 47“, which includes baseline tariffs against all imported goods.

Call it quits now DeSantis. Your dead in the water with Republican voters with this pronouncement. Trump was right to have tariffs on products from China, but he fell a bit short. The tariffs needed to be 100% for any product produced in China and also produced by U.S. companies in China. Make those products in the U.S. and receive tax breaks.

I read through this sloppy hit piece twice and can find nothing wrong or disturbing with what DeSantis supposedly said. No actual quotes here, no transcript, just summaries by attendees which suggest that DeS simply delivered his standard talking points. And did the governor suggest that Trump's tariff policies were ineffective? OK, then how and why? Sounds like a fair question for debate, not a reason to mindlessly denounce the most promising star on the GOP horizon. And If "MAGA", as it has come to be known, is about nothing more than trade policy then it is doomed as a political force. Our country is gradually dying as its moral unravelling accelerates. The entitlement mentality is engulfing us. Government spending is out of control. Against this background, whom Governor DeSantis had lunch with just doesn't register on my list of concerns. But then, maybe I'm just a RINO.

I find it intriguing that someone at Conservative Treehouse is attacking a Republican candidate for opposing tariffs. He must have fallen out and hit a few branches on the way down. Conservative intellectuals such as William F. Buckley opposed tarrifs on principle, and Conservative presidents such as Reagan reduced them in practice (with some exceptions). As someone who venerates those men, and also enthusiastically supported President Trump, I'm willing to grant some leeway on this issue in both directions. As #6 correctly says, there is a strong argument that national security concerns must take precedence over free trade orthodoxy. But #7 is equally (and characteristically) correct that opposition to tarrifs is hardly a reliable indicator of conservative heresy. That I support President Trump doesn't obligate me to criticize everything Governor DeSantis does, particularly when it aligns with the principled conservatism of my youth.

Under US guidance, Ukraine is planning a major counteroffensive likely later this Spring when the fields and secondary roads that are not asphalted dry out. Nine of the twelve brigades are equipped with US and European armor and artillery and the three others are made up of older Russian-origin equipment, some of it modified by Ukraine. According to the leaked documents, Ukraine can expect big gains from its offensive. But it would seem the reality is quite different. Even the Wall Street Journal, a Ukraine booster, has doubts.

The Navy then immediately relayed that information to the on-scene commanders leading the search effort, and it was used to narrow down the area of the search, the official said. But the sound of the implosion was determined to be “not definitive,” the official said, and the multinational efforts to find the submersible continued as a search and rescue effort. “Any chance of saving a life is worth continuing the mission,” the official said.
