First Republic may not survive, even after

New York - First Republic Bank is in a fight for its survival. The past few weeks have been brutal for the San Francisco-based lender. Now, some analysts say a collapse of the bank is imminent. "It's becoming clearer each day" that First Republic is "toast," said Don Bilson at Gordon Haskett, in a note Wednesday. "The only question that really needs to be answered is whether the [Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation] moves in before the weekend or during the weekend, which is when it usually does its thing." The bank reported on Monday that its total deposits fell 41% in the first quarter, sending its stock to record lows. Shares

The bank's coastal depositors are too important to the Democratic Party to allow them to be limited to the FDIC's up front $250,000.00 limit.

My thought is the same as #1. Will the FDIC violate it's own rules -again- to 'make good' the full amounts for this bank's depositors? Who -general wealth and general political persuasion- are these depositors? It seems to me that the thing driving these bank failures is the rapid rise in interest rates, caused by the Democ'RATS. Cutting off the nation's petroleum supply and off-the-chain spending has caused inflation, then the Fed ups the interest rate to collapse the economy, reduce demand, and reduce inflation. It's the only tool the Fed has, although it is the wrong tool. The problem is the Federal policies, cutting off the fuel supply and spending too much money. So.... If a bank has 'loaded up' on long-term bonds that pay 1% or 2%, and has a portfolio of house loans at 2-1/2% to 3%, and now the market is such that they have to pay higher rates on deposits..... they're in trouble. If this is a common pattern throughout the nation, a lot of banks are in trouble. How much money does the FDIC have to bail these banks out? How does the money available compare to the predicted accumulative nationwide loss? If they cover ALL the deposits for their 'buddies' banks, are they going to run out of money when the banks in Flyover Country -who were able to hang on longer- fail, or will ALL the depositors in Flyover Country be 'S.O.L.' ?

Many of us (trust me, I'm not a financial wizard) have been 'laddering' our bonds shorter for at least the past 5 years, just waiting for the inevitable rise in interest rates. Why were these banks all asleep at the switch?!?

Why were banks not awake? Because they were busy invoking Joey's climate castrastophe policies.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- Iran's navy seized a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday heading to the U.S. amid wider tensions over Tehran's nuclear program, the latest-such capture in a waterway crucial for global energy supplies. The U.S. Navy's Mideast-based 5th Fleet identified the vessel as the Advantage Sweet. Satellite tracking data for the vessel from MarineTraffic.com showed it in the Gulf of Oman, just north of Oman's capital, Muscat, on Thursday afternoon. It had just come from Kuwait and listed its destination as Houston. The Advantage Sweet issued a distress call at 1:15 p.m. while in international waters as Iran seized

WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Mike Pence appeared Thursday before the federal grand jury convened as part of the special counsel investigation into former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss and remain in power, according to a source familiar with the matter. The testimony is a significant development in the special counsel’s probe, as Pence could provide critical insights into Trump’s thinking in the days leading up to the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. The former vice president published a memoir and Wall Street Journal opinion article detailing several of his interactions with Trump, but some details were left vague.

No wonder President Biden needs a cheat sheet while taking questions from adults. The 80-year-old commander-in-chief had difficulty remembering his recent state visit to Ireland Thursday while being grilled by kids during a Take Your Child to Work event at the White House. “The last country I’ve traveled, I’m trying to think of the last one I was in,” Biden mused to the children of administration staffers and members of the media. “I’ve been to, met with 89 heads of state so far. So, uh, trying to think where was the last place I was; it’s hard to keep track.” “Ireland,” a child shouted out, jogging the president’s memory. “Yeah, you’re right, Ireland.

More than a third of likely Democrat primary voters believe someone other than President Joe Biden should be the Democrat presidential nominee, according to a poll partially conducted after he announced his reelection bid on Tuesday. The Emerson College Polling survey, taken April 24-25, shows that 65 percent of those who plan to vote in the Democrat primary want Biden as the nominee versus 35 percent who want “someone else.” When pitted against declared candidates, he sees a minor bump in support. In the present field of Biden, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Marianne Williamson, the sitting president takes 70 percent of the support while 21 percent back Kennedy. Williamson

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden just announced his re-election campaign, but he’s already on track to sacrifice New Hampshire’s famed primary to a fringe rival like Marianne Williamson or Robert Kennedy Jr. The unusual situation is one of Biden’s own making, thanks to the new primary calendar the Democratic National Committee ratified at his behest in February, which seeks to demote Iowa and New Hampshire and prohibits candidates from campaigning — or even putting their name on the ballot — in a state that jumps the line. The problem is that New Hampshire and Iowa, both of which Biden lost in 2020, plan to disregard the DNC

A push led by Democrats to give more time for states to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, or ERA, failed on Thursday. The measure didn't win the support needed to clear a key 60-vote threshold, with the final tally being 51 to 47. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer changed his vote to no in order to bring it back again in the near future. "This issue is too important, and we are not giving up," Schumer said in brief remarks after the vote. Almost all Republicans voted against the legislation, though Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, lobbied for it in floor remarks before the vote.

The law will reinforce that “distinctions between the sexes” in such spaces advances “the important governmental objectives of protecting the health, safety and privacy,” the bill reads. “We want to have safety,” Republican state representative Brenda Landwehr, told the Associated Press. Last Thursday, Governor Kelly vetoed a raft of bills passed by the Republican-controlled legislature concerning the transgender community,

In what looks to be a first for American politics, the Republican National Committee released an AI-generated campaign ad yesterday in response to Joe Biden announcing his reelection bid. Although the RNC disclosed that the ad was AI-generated, the corporate media still went into freakout mode. The 30-second ad, called “Beat Biden,” uses AI image generation to produce images of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and images of some doom-laden hypothetical scenarios if the current occupant of the White House wins re-election. Fears about the potential of AI technology range from the mundane, like entertainment companies worried about copyright infringement, to confident predictions from AI experts

Former President Donald Trump has lost an emergency attempt to block former Vice President Mike Pence from testifying about their direct conversations, in the latest boost to a federal criminal investigation examining Trump's and others' actions after the 2020 election. This latest order from the DC Circuit Court of Appeals likely will usher in Pence's grand jury testimony quickly -- an unprecedented development in modern presidential history. Anyone looking for a glimpse of what Vice President Kamala Harris could bring to the campaign trail would have found it this week at Howard University, where she headlined a rally for reproductive rights. After two years of tightly scripted, uneven performances that often dismayed Democrats and cheered Republicans, Harris is looser, more forceful and more willing to speak off the cuff following her trip to Africa a month ago. “That is the vice president that America is going to get a chance to get to know for the first time,” said Laphonza Butler, a former adviser to Harris who leads EMILY’s List.

Fox “parting ways” with Tucker Carlson was an insane move by any standards of business, given how popular his show was on the network.
