The National Audubon Society, one of the most powerful bird conservation groups in the country, bucked critics Wednesday and elected to keep its name despite criticism from some groups in the birding community. CEO of the National Audubon Society Elizabeth Gray defended the decision in a press statement, explaining that the organization’s namesake, John James Audubon, was a naturalist and illustrator who made "an important contribution to the field of ornithology in the mid-19th century and there can be no doubt of the impact of his life’s work and passion for birds."

Audubon was French. His father brought him to PA to get away from the European wars. He was interested in animals especially birds. He married his neighbor who always helped promote his drawings. He moved south but just drew while she promoted. Slavery was a way of life but he wasn't interested in anything except his drawing.

Apparently the Audubon society leaders realize that you can’t change or control the facts of history by changing the names that made the history. As they did in Orwell’s 1984, and as similar progressives in our own “news media” continue to. Good for them, and hope they persist with their common sense.

This is EXACTLY like 'reparations' where there will NEVER be enough money to satisfy the demands ! The demands for more and more 'money' will go on FOREVER ! Some people will ALWAYS find a way to accuse something, ANYTHING, even a bird artist, of racism and weather or not it is true it COMPLETELY irrelevant to the accuser !! The whole situation is disgusting.

Good for them! They continue to recognize Audobons contributions while recognizing that he was not perfect . You can't can't change the past or what was acceptable back then. Don't judge historical people by today's standards. There will be no historical people left to honor.

Slavery was not an easy issue to deal with and these history revisionists think years later that something should have been done back then. Look what Abraham Lincoln had to go through. A civil war. Slavery is an issue that came across our waters. Sad thing is that a lot of these people PROBABLY voted for Joe Biden and have never seen the picture of him and Robert Byrd.

Democratic Colorado Gov. Jared Polis will stop sending migrants to New York City, Chicago and other major Democrat-run cities after mayors expressed outrage at the plan in recent weeks. Polis had agreed to work with local authorities in Denver to help send migrants to their final destinations. While Colorado is not a border state, it has seen a major influx of migrants seeking passage to elsewhere in the country. Mayors Eric Adams of New York City and Lori Lightfoot of Chicago called on Polis to end his assistance last week as their cities also struggle with a surge in migrants.

A labor union set up a disturbing display of a casket and a photo depicting a dead person’s feet outside of a grade school in New Jersey to protest the district hiring a contractor for a construction project, which sparked the school’s superintendent to knock it over. "For the safety of the children, as the Superintendent of Schools, I really had no choice but to protect them. I responded immediately to the coffin on school property and knocked it to the ground," superintendent of Edison Township public schools, Bernard Bragen, said in a statement to Fox News.

Dr. Anthony Fauci believes the Centers for Disease Control will soon provide updated COVID-19 guidance on using face masks in outdoor settings, calling it "common sense" to do so. Face masks have taken an increasingly central role in debate lately as many question the continued and widespread use of masks even as vaccinations continue to soar nationwide. A Georgia mother went viral this week after she sounded off on her local school board continuing its mask mandate through next year. Fauci agrees with some of that thought, saying that the risk for people engaging in outdoor activities is "minuscule," especially for vaccinated individuals.

According to Drenton, maintaining a clean, organized home equates to “sexist” and “racist” behavior, because most people who post “pantry porn” are white women (via the Conversation): Cleanliness has historically been used as a cultural gatekeeping mechanism to reinforce status distinctions based on a vague understanding of “niceness”:
