The Grammys Wasn't Edgy or Avant-Garde,
It Was Just Tired and Boring Shock-Value

I didn’t watch the Grammys. In fact, I haven’t watched award shows for some time. Not only do I know that the relevant bits would be highlighted in short clips on the internet later, but today’s award shows are also just boring. Where there used to be good-natured fun and actual comedic moments meant to make people laugh, we now have try-hard performances and shock value.
None of it seems real anymore, and by “real” I mean it all seems like a disingenuous attempt at pushing the envelope in order to break new ground and take the arts into a direction that’s never been seen before.

How long until the Grammy's feature graphic sex and infant sacrifice?

I didn't watch but saw the photos online. What a bunch of hideous looking clothes these people wore. Are they blind or just high on something? The crowning moment must have been when wild- haired Dr. Jill spoke.

I agree but disagree. While shock has lost its punch and genuine humor is long gone, I find the celebration of perversion and outright sin, tragic and saddening. They have no idea that they are falling ever faster into Hell itself.. The only good news is that ratings each year set new records for abysmal and hopefully their influence on children is waning as well. That Pfizer sponsored this is further evidence that this is not a company interested in public health but profits at the expense of society's cultural and spiritual welfare.

Shouldn't "Blondie" Beyonce be arrested by the woke police for cultural appropriation?

I'm sorry, but country music died shortly after the owners of MTV bought out CMT and started to negatively degrade country music. These days, when I try to listen to "new country", all I usually hear is rap and hip-hop with a country twang. Lots and lots of words blurted out as fast as possible, with little melody and no harmonies. If George Strait was just coming on the country music scene today, he couldn't get a contract with even a minor label. There is still some good country music being made in the dancehalls and honky- tonks in "flyover country". But it's sure nothing you are going to hear on the radio or see getting even nominated for a Grammy these days.
"Pop music" just makes me want to hurl most of the time.
The only music that gives me any hope these days is modern bluegrass music. Real musicians playing accoustic instruments. Great singing, with wonderful melodies and beautiful harmonies. Lots of super talented young musicians (like Molly Tuttle and Billy Strings).

I recently went to a Christmas concert at a local university. I was appalled at the costuming and antics of the performers. This was billed as a religious observance. Towards the end, the organist played "In the Deep Mid-winter," a familiar and beautiful melody. He absolutely butchered this song making it almost unrecognizable, just incoherent noise. After the program ended, thankfully, I asked the organist, a professor of music, about this wretched rendition of something beautiful. He said, paraphrasing now, 'Nobody wants beautiful melodies anymore. I play what people want.' I guess the Grammies proves him right. Well, I still like beautiful and traditional music. LDotters do, too.

Didn’t watch it either, but hear that Stevie Wonder was, as always, excellent. Sorry to have missed him, but have most of his recordings. One of a kind musician and person. Great music is still being made, just not nominated for a Grammy. Most of the records praised in audiophile magazines are recorded from the late 50's on, but rarely in the past 15 years or so. A pity, since audiophile equipment has continued to improve, but often not affordable for mere mortals. Many great old vinyl records cost in the hundreds, so don't sell your's cheap. Pass them on, if lucky to have audiophile children or grandchildren.

I haven’t watched the Grammys in over 20 years. Now that they’ve crossed over to promoting satanism and clapping like seals over it I think I made the right decision.

The only good part was the Motown tribute. That was back when people had talent.

I haven't watched the Grammys, Oscars or any award show since all of Hollywood, Nashville etc. went nuts during the GWB administration. I was active-duty Navy back then and all I heard from that crowd is if you were me you were a warmongering puppet for the evil Republicans and Conservatives. It also didn't help that politicians in DC and the media sang the same rotten tune. No pun intended. That and the fact GWB didn't push back on those lies. The biggest reason too is music these days just isn't good. I grew up listening to greats like Conway Twitty, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, The Commodores, George Benson, Whitney Houston, Patty LaBelle and Aretha Franklin. Now it's all a big auto tune mess which makes me want to tune out. Again no pun intended.

Same reason why I never watch the halftime show of the Super Bowl. There are no current pop musicians i want to see or listen to. I listen to Country music these days because current pop is so bad.
