Pompous PBS: ‘Why Are So Many Americans
and [GOP] Lawmakers Still Enthralled With Gas?’

The Thursday evening edition of the PBS NewsHour devoted 11 minutes to the apparent foolishness…of cooking with gas. Science correspondent Miles O’Brien condescendingly mocked anyone who would dare not throw out their gas stoves and purchase more expensive induction stoves, given the obvious health hazards of natural gas (a danger the liberal press learned about a few days go and won’t stop shrieking over).
GEOFF BENNETT, host: There's been quite a bit of heated debate lately about gas stoves and potential government regulation. The fire was lit last week after recent studies linked asthma with the use of gas stoves.

Oh NOOOO!!! Let's all go back to wood burning stoves and heaters. Now THAT will cause real respiratory issues.

What a phony charge. I am 80 and never had an electric stove and don't intend to get an electric one.
Why do people have them?
Immediate heat that is easily regulated, turn it off and it's off

I've had electric stoves for longer than I can remember. I hate them. My current house is "all-electric," because the coop has a better rate and there aren't any nat gas lines in the neighborhood (although I live within 20 miles of three major natural gas pipelines. Even my last house, which did have gas heat, had an electric stove. You just can't regulate the heat as well as a gas stove.

Cooking your extra large pork butt roast this summer for 13 hours on an outdoor wood grill is next. Then your fireplace, and your fire pit (OMC S'mores will be illegal), Campfire Girls will have to rename themselves, Will the word "gaslight" have to be given a new definition by the dictionary nazis? And if we enjoy a big bowl of ham and beans and we have the bodily function of passing gas . . . I assume that is now a no no. How about dust? Dust can affect asthma suffers. Let's outlaw dust. I can live without dust. Or pets? All pets must be destroyed. Fur you know can bother some people. Humid summer days can be a problem too. No more hot and humid summer days. Is this all stupid? Yes, it's all stupid. But these elites who want to tell us how to live according to their wishes are stupid a holes. One stupid idea just rolls into another and it snowballs. And in their minds they were put on this earth to lord over us, the unwashed. FJB, f the elites and their ilk. Mealworms in a dark, cold hole in the ground. They really, really do want us to live like that.

In typical liberal fashion they ask the question but don't even try to answer it, they just assume they already know everything.

Gas is plentiful and continues to function when the power goes out. The enormous cost of switching from gas to electricity for cooking is enormous and installing a couple of solar panels on your roof, if you have access to it, won't provide the energy to cook anything. PBS needs to research and report the truth and stick to that. They no nothing about thermodynamics.

Check the kitchens of the restaurants you frequent, Mr. Bennett. The vast majority of them use gas stoves. I hope you will avoid those restaurants in the future since you’re so concerned about the climate. qq

Because it is more easily controlled, and is THREE TIMES as energy efficient as their damned, stupid electricity.
ANY application which used electricity for heat is inefficient since two thirds of the original gas energy is lost in the conversion to electricity. Obviously gas fired hair driers aren't practical, and but as stoves and gas furnaces are essentilaly 100% efficient and very convenient, and easy to modulate the heat.
Drop dead, you damned evil, stupid leftist pukes.

Several years ago when Hubs and I were home shopping we found the perfect house in the perfect location. The only issue was it was all electric. That was a deal breaker for me. If you don’t want gas don’t get it but mind your own business and leave me to my awesome gas stove.

Enthralled? You mean prefer the better energy source for cooking?
I'm in an electric-only area. I miss gas. Cooking was way better and when it's off, it's off. The electric top stays blazing hot for a long time.

Wonder how the president heats his swimming pool? Don't you just love that politicians, CEO's (big companies), celebrities, sports figures who PROBABLY live in their excessiveness now have to tell the peasant folk how to live? I get there are always exceptions with generalities but it is getting tiresome that the very people who live in excess scrutinize us bumpkins.
By the way, my daughter grew up around electric stoves and still had asthma. . .

Even if it's true that natural gas stoves have a link to asthma, the obvious solution is better ventilation for the homes they are in.

Gas stoves are not subject to brown-outs, black-outs, or temporary interruptions when a vehicle hits a local utility pole, heat up faster, can be controlled more easily, and burners off cool more quickly (important if you have young children).

I have a natural gas stove, furnace, hot water heater, and fire place. When the electric power goes down my furnace won't come on because the thermostat is electric. But natural gas is cheaper, faster, and more efficient that electric. My relatives in Tennessee lost electricity for several hours during the last artic blast. They suspect that TVA intentionally threw the switch because the demand for electricity was more than they could supply. I'll stick with natural gas.

Most Americans understand the gas stoves are far superior to electric stoves for cooking. Of course, the pompous and scummy employees of PBS do not cook at home. Will this ban extend to restaurants ?

Re #17, homes used to have your suggested better ventilation built in. They were leaky and air exchanged with outside air easily. As fuel costs skyrocketed, due to fake shortages and leftist policies, we have reacted by tightening up our homes to save money. And then we have more polluted inside air.
You really don't want you home TOO airtight.

Oddly enough, I am currently in the process of getting natural gas to run to my house. For now, it's, so I can have gas logs in my fireplace, then a gas stove when the old electric wears out. I have gotten too old to haul in logs and build fires. The eco-loons want to do away with all fossil fuels. This is just another ruse to speed that up. They are liars and criminals and will do anything to achieve their goals, whether it's stealing elections, smearing or cancelling anyone who disagrees with their politics or world view. I don't think even assassination is beyond them.

Miles O’Brien is a horse's ass. What do you propose, Miles, to deal with 120MM Chinese without enough to eat? Or the huge number of Indians starving in India? Or the poor in Latin America? All combined, those global populations dwarf the amount of CO2 emissions the US creates. You are an Idiot, Miles O’Brien.

A report last week went into detailed mathematical analysis of the previous reports about gas and the claims. And it tore them apart. The original reports did not do statistics correctly. The end conclusion by using the original reports own data and analyzing it correctly is there was no causation and not even any correlation. Nothing. It's all a lie put out by anti fossil fuel advocates.
