Justice Thomas Unloads on Lawyer Defending
Affirmative Action: ‘Diversity Seems

Justice Clarence Thomas pressed North Carolina’s solicitor general to explain how the University of North Carolina defines diversity during oral arguments on Monday in a Supreme Court case centered around the use of race as a factor in college admissions. “I’ve heard the word diversity quite a few times and I don’t have a clue what it means,” said Thomas. “It seems to mean everything for everyone.” Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) has challenged the race-based admissions policies of both Harvard and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), accusing both schools of discriminating against Asian-American applicants. The cases were initially merged, but are now being heard separately

This affirmative action dude is full of lawyer speak and gobbledegook. Explain it to me like I’m a five year old. How is it fair to the person who has worked the hardest for good grades all of his or her life only to lose admission to a person of a different skin color and much lower test scores. Explain diversity to that person. It’s the work of social justice warriors. Reminds me of the J6 committee as being diverse.

The sad explanation was, "We are using race as a determinate for admissions according to the standards set by SCOTUS.". In short, we are doing it because you said we could. Beyond that, we have no real justification for doing it, except for the normal liberal pablum that "Diversity is good.". No actual proof of the benefits of diversity beyond liberal assertion. Justice Thomas asked for some proof of the "goodness" of admission discrimination for the benefit of diversity. Their whole case could rest on this information and they had nothing convincing to say.

Diversity is that thing, you know, where there is more of one and less of another because it’s unfair, unless it’s the right kind. We need diversity in medical schools, for example, and the military, too. But not in “girls sports”. That’s not fair. And then there’s Dusty Baker…

This whole "diversity" thing is about equal outcome; not equal opportunity which is what this whole 50 years of upheaval was supposed to be about. We've had too many (including Justice Thomas) who've taken advantage of the equal opportunity and had enormous success for this "diversity" group to have any standing. Students of color have had the opportunity; even during segregation (to some degree) to learn and move up the education ranks even though often segregated.

Has anyone pointed out that the trend these days is for all of the students who are admitted by the diversity standards to segregate themselves into their own groups once they arrive on campus? Justice Thomas should ask the lawyer to explain why colleges now have black student unions, black dorms and give blacks their own separate graduation ceremonies.

Just my opinion; If they did not discriminate against Asians then the total enrollment of Harvard would comprise of only Asian students. Education is much more critical within Asian families than it is in others. And Black students who have a Father at home or a powerful educational influencing Mother, most likely would be accepted as being good or great students.

Diversity is a "concept" that one can define however necessary. It's pure socio-babble and legal mumbojumbo that gets heads nodding up and down, given the "underserved" or "underprivileged" a break otherwise denied them through "merit". It has become an industry virtually unassailable by its widespread acceptance and enforcement. The alternative is to be labeled "racist" or some other smear. It's time to call and end to this, whether it be "plus" for certain races, genders, sexual preferences, or any other non-merit factors. The next problem is, with schools eschewing/inflating any grades or measurements of academic achievement, and the diminishment of ACT/SAT tests, what's left upon which to make a fair judgement?

It's not about giving anyone a "special" leg up at the expense of another...WE are all Americans and have an open field in whatever endeavor WE tackle....as a child I held the track record at my school....should I have backed off and let someone else win...OR...should I have pulled the strength from my body to cross the finish line first....giving children a participation trophy when they didn't win only validates his/her never trying harder to win...and so it is with affirmative action admissions....America wants the best you can be....

There is quite a bit of academic jealousy against Asians. My children went to a high school that was 35% Asian. Those kids worked their tails off to get into elite school, much harder than mine kids were willing to work and harder than I was willing to push them. They were in band or orchestra, took extra classes during the summer, went to Chinese/Japanese/Korean school on the weekend, joined the school clubs, volunteered for community activities and charities. They made the schools better, which in turn increased property values and made the city prosperous. To limit the number of over achievers into you University or company for that matter is downright un-American.

Diversity and Affirmative Action are two different animals. Diversity is numeric quotas and percentages of mixed races. Affirmative Action requires hiring skin color over qualifications. The Big Lie is that either program creates a better work force.

These stories keep coming fast and thick this week. Here’s one published this evening by the Washington Post full of Democrats expressing their nervous concern about the midterms. A democratic strategist quoted in this story even uses the M-word: Malaise. Welcome back, Carter! As Republicans have focused on inflation and crime to go on offense in Democratic territory over the past month — competing in traditionally blue districts in California, Oregon, New York, Illinois and elsewhere — there’s a growing sense among Democrats that there’s little they can do at this point to combat the combined forces of history and economics.

As we reported, Joe Biden gave a primetime speech last night to the nation. It was his last chance to convince people of what he or the Democrats had done to earn anyone’s vote before the midterm. It was his chance to talk about how he was going to bring down inflation and crime, the two top concerns of the American people. Instead, Biden used the moment to try to tell people that they should vote for Democrats because of the “threat to democracy” – that “democracy was on the ballot.” So if you thought the top issues wed inflation or crime, sorry, as Hillary Clinton says
