The surge of migrants moving west to the El Paso Border Patrol Sector led to the apprehension of approximately 30,000 in August, a source within U.S. Customs and Border Protection says. The trend overwhelmed the sector’s detention capacity, forcing agents to carry out street releases.
Agents in the El Paso Sector jumped into the number two spot with the apprehension of just under 30,000 migrants, Breitbart Texas reported. This is up from approximately 25,000 apprehended in July. With one month to go in the fiscal year, agents in the El Paso Sector apprehended nearly 260,000 migrants. The westward movement of the migrant surge caused detention centers in the El Paso Sector

As we reported, a search warrant was executed at the home of longtime Los Angeles politician and former child actor Sheila Kuehl (D-Santa Monica) around 7 AM local time Wednesday morning. In an impromptu interview with Fox11 Los Angeles about an hour later, Kuehl quickly cast the incident as a “bogus search” spurred by an “obsessed” former LA Metro employee that LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva simply went along with. However, it was soon reported that the warrant related to “an ongoing public corruption investigation” and was executed by LASD and federal agents, and that warrants were concurrently served

The Miami Herald has discovered something about Republican politicians, and boy, is it a problem. You may want to sit down for this one.
GOP politicians who are Christians use scripture in their speeches. GAAAAAAAASP! Grab the fainting couch! I know. You’re not really shocked or appalled, but this information came as news to the Miami Herald’s Ana Ceballos, particularly when it comes to Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.), who Ceballos’ article says is “playing with fire.”
The reporter goes all the way back to February to cite a speech DeSantis made at Hillsdale College to make her point.

“Homelessness in New York City has reached the highest levels since the Great Depression of the 1930s,” the Coalition for the Homeless reports.
After decades of failure, New York City homelessness keeps getting worse. The only people who appear to be benefiting are the ones who make a pretty penny “serving” the homeless. The homeless–an ever expanding group in our major cities–are still sleeping rough and dying of overdoses. This despite the fact that NYC spends about $43,750 per year per homeless person — 50% more than it spends on each schoolchild. That adds up to billions of dollars in spending with nothing but disastrous results to show for it.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Wednesday blocked a Republican request to force railroad workers and companies to accept the recommendations of a nonpartisan panel to avoid a strike that would impact millions of Americans.
Sanders stood up on the floor to block the speedy approval of the resolution — introduced by Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee ranking member Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) — that would require railroad workers to adopt the outlines of a labor deal.
He argued that railroad companies are making huge profits and should start treating their workers more fairly.

Christianity has remained at the forefront of the nation's political and social conversations for centuries — but new research shows that could be changing.
A new report by Pew Research Center and the General Social Survey published on Tuesday found that the large numbers of people in the U.S who practice Christianity are declining. The religion's demographic has been dwindling since the 1990s, the report said, as many adults transition to an identity of atheist, agnostic or "nothing in particular." In the early '90s, about 90% of people in the U.S. identified as Christians, the report said. In 2020, Christians accounted for about 64%

Over the past two years, Governor Ron DeSantis has embarked on a public relations speed run aimed at boosting his national profile ahead of 2024, embracing red meat social policies and making inroads with conservative power brokers of every stripe. As part of this effort, the notoriously pugnacious governor has managed to walk a tightrope among right-wing media that few Republicans can. From traditional organs like the New York Post and the National Review to Alex Jones and other insurgent far-right darlings, just about every corner of the conservative media ecosystem has played a part in his meteoric rise.
On Fox News, DeSantis has become a favorite guest, appearing regularly

MAGA champion and retired brigadier general Don Bolduc appears to have won the New Hampshire GOP Senate primary Tuesday, after moderate Republican candidate and president of the state senate Chuck Morse conceded early Wednesday.
As of 8 A.M., Bolduc held a narrow 1,200 vote lead over Morse, though the Associated Press had yet to call the race.
A supporter of former president Donald Trump, Bolduc doubled down on his 2020 election denial at a recent debate, insisting that the outcome was fraudulent. Outraged by the FBI’s surprise raid of Trump’s Florida residence on the grounds that he mishandled government records, Bolduc said he was open to abolishing the agency.

All three major indexes plunged on Tuesday after worse-than-expected inflation data raised fears the Federal Reserve will need to continue raising interest rates aggressively to bring prices under control.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell nearly 1,300 points, while the broad-based S&P 500 fell by over 4%.
It was the worst day since June 2020 for both indices.
The Nasdaq suffered an even bigger loss, dropping over 5% for its worst day since March 2020.
The latest consumer price index showed prices rose by 8.3% in August from a year earlier. While that was less than in June, inflation didn't slow as much

President Joe Biden celebrated the passage of the “Inflation Reduction Act” by hosting an event at the White House Tuesday, the same day the Bureau of Labor Statistics released a report showing inflation had continued to rise in August, causing markets to plummet.
“This bill cut costs for families. Helped reduce inflation at the kitchen table, because that’s what [people] look at — how much of their monthly bills they have to pay out for their necessities,” Biden said in a speech delivered outside the White House, thanking West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin for voting for the bill.
“This bill alone is going to lower the deficit by $300 billion

Gas prices are down, providing a boon for Democrats in November. But food prices remain sky-high, giving Republicans an opening to keep inflation a top-of-mind issue in the midterms.
The price of food at the grocery store is expected to increase by up to 11 percent this year with the cost of beef, poultry, milk, eggs and fruit driving the surge. Prices could shoot even higher with droughts affecting crops and a potential rail workers strike halting shipments needed for both food and crop production.
The government’s latest Consumer Price Index report released Tuesday shows overall food prices continued to rise, by 0.8 percent in August. That’s slightly down

The major stock market indexes tumbled on Tuesday after a key measure of inflation came in worse than expected.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 900 points, for a 2.8 percent decline. The S&P 500 dropped 3.2 percent, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 4.1 percent.
The drop, which undid a week worth of gains, came after the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 8.3 percent in August compared to the same time last year and increased 0.1 percent from the previous month.
The rise was worse than the 8.1 percent increase that economists had expected, according to Dow Jones estimates.
