Former U.S. Department of Education (DOE) Secretary Betsy DeVos spoke during the Moms For Liberty National Summit in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday and called on abolishing the federal agency she once served.
“I personally think the Department of Education should not exist,” DeVos said during the summit, according to the Florida Phoenix.
DeVos, who ran the education department during the Trump Administration, has continued advocating for school choice for American children.

I agree 100%. It should be up to the States to set up and run their schools.

It can exist as long as they are honest enough to change the name to the DOI - Department of Indoctrination.

Kill it. They educate no one. It is nothing more than a giant sop to the teachers union and if anyone has bothered to look, the students graduating today are barely literate….but they have very high self-esteem.

She’s right. Something else that should be left to the states.

Well gee Betsy, wasn't that why you were appointed in the first place by Trump? How much baloney did you feed him to keep the department from being shut down? You had one job to do and you blew it lady.

I agree. It was created by the incompetent Jimmy Carter in the late 70's. Like everything else Carter did it has been a disaster.

Absolutely true. And, while we're at it, the Departments of agriculture, commerce, labor, HHS, HUD, transportation, energy, EPA, Science & Technology and the SBA can all be disbanded, their functions seriously curtailed, since there is no Constitutional justification for them in the first place.

Unfortunately, even President Reagan could not remove it despite it being a new agency when he became president.
Heck, folks, we still have the Rural Electrification Agency, despite the obvious.
This is what Democrats count on, once you establish an agency, department, etc.. it will NEVER be removed, and they count on those who are employed in such entities to vote to maintain them. Doesn't matter if the money is being wasted, or not really needed, redundant, obsolete, they get funding.
Want to cry about the "power of the purse", well, you'll need to return to General Order first, which looks to be a near impossibility after running CR's since 2007-08 fiscal year budget (thank Harry Reid who didn't want to force Democrats to make tough budget decisions).

the school districts have been getting money fat since the feds took over their schools ergo: less education and more social justice(ing) and
the problem is too, that many teachers are demcommies and really believe in that baloney, thanks to the secondary ed schools and their communist faculty's
we sure have put our foot in it since the 60's

I agree. The DOE is nothing more than a thug agency backing everything the teacher unions want. Disgusting.

Politics aside, the concept of a one size fits all agency for all school districts is not feasible.

Textbook Republican, and it's why USA is in the mess it's in right now. Rick "Gov. Goodhair" Perry pulled the same stunt. Claimed that if elected president that he'd abolish three federal departments just for starters, but when pressed could not name even one of them ("Um..." was the reply that slammed the lid on his campaign). And when placed in charge of one such department, didn't move to shut it down, and did not distinguish himself in any way.

The quality of Education in America has deteriorated since the Dept. Of Education was established a few decades ago and along with it was integrity. It is a total disgrace!
