Why Mitch McConnell?

Original Article

Posted By: Magnante, 4/19/2022 4:37:57 AM

If we’ve heard it once, we’ve heard it a million times: 80-year-old Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell is the indispensable man. McConnell’s indispensability, we’re told, stems from his skill shepherding Republican judicial nominees through the process and onto the federal bench. Alternatively, McConnell’s mastery of Senate rules keeps more than a few Democrats off the bench. This is practically lore among Republicans. But McConnell’s prowess is overstated. As the saying goes, graveyards are full of indispensable men. Okay, give McConnell his due. He’s been an effective manager, advancing and opposing judicial nominations.

FTA: “ D.C. lifer McConnell is, hands down, no DeSantis man. Which tells us what? It’s not Trump, DeSantis, and the grassroots who are out-of-step. It’s the aloof, double-dealing Kentucky senator who is.” McConnell is poison to the MAGA movement. He will try and destroy it and anyone who agrees with the America First policies. McConnell is so out of step, so old and corrupt, and so unwanted by the base that it is evident. President Trump saved his sorry behind in his last election and he turned around and stabbed him in the back. That is the kind of man China Mitch McConnell is. His only loyalty is to himself. He has to go and McCarthy right along with him. They are a drag on the party and any hope of restoring this country.

There are dozens of turtles living in a pond in my neighborhood. Hubby and I feed them a couple of times a week and one will even climb up the bank and eat the food right out of my hand. They have far more usefulness and redeeming qualities than the senator from Kentucky.

We need new leadership in the House and the Senate. No way that McCarthy should be assumed to take the reins just because he is there now. The same for McConnell. Time for him to retire. Neither one of these men liked or supported Trump until they saw the way the voters were behind him. That alone is enough. I would rather see Jordan in the House…and the Senate? Scott? not so sure about him either.

The Dem leadership in Congress sure know how to control their members. The Repubs - not so much to the ever lasting regret of so many of us here. I like Sen Ron Johnson - he's been persistent on the Hunt Biden laptop, etc., even when some of his fellow Republicans have not supported his just and valiant efforts. I like Rep Jordan but a bit leery that he might still be all talk and no hammer once in a leadership position. But I am so disgusted by 99% in Congress that I really have little hope that even if Repubs take back Congress, little to nothing will change. They have almost all been bought off in one way or another.

I do not know of anything that McConnell has done that is not ordinary, and what he has done is far less that what Republicans expect of a Republican leader. We have gotten little good, and a lot of back stabs from McConnell, while he has grown very wealthy and comfortable not doing anything.

Biden is wrecking a key bilateral relationship 6 replies

With all eyes on Ukraine, few are noticing how Joe Biden is ruining relations with a critical nation next door to us, which is Mexico. (snip) it's pretty clear that Biden's dinner triangle to migrants of all countries to come on in through the Mexican border isn't a welcome thing in Mexico. The dynamics are pretty simple: mass migration means huge smuggling earnings for Mexico's notorious cartels. Because the U.S. won't guard its own border, cartels have stepped in from the Mexican side and declared that they now control the border.

When a man becomes president, he suddenly gains a new appendage: The Secret Service. Wherever he goes and whatever he does, members of the Secret Service are there, keeping an eye on him. And, like all bureaucracies, you can be sure that the agents are required to document everything on their watch. That’s why it’s truly peculiar that, in response to a FOIA request from the New York Post to see documents identifying Joe Biden’s visitors during his regular stays in Delaware in 2021, the Secret Service is claiming that it has no records with that information.

For many years, I made my living writing TV shows for Disney. I was proud of my work, considering it a privilege to make kids laugh all over the world. They found that if people in Europe replaced meat and dairy with foods produced through new technologies, such as making fake steak out of bovine cells, it could significantly reduce all environmental impacts. Not only that, but it would be nutritionally adequate and meet the constraints for what can be feasibly consumed, according to experts

LONGVIEW — In 2019, Washington created one of the most generous college financial aid programs in the country. Compared with a program it replaced, the Washington College Grant allowed many more students to qualify for free or subsidized tuition. No longer would eligible students be denied aid because of caps tied to limited funds. By all rights, the state's colleges should have seen a rush of applicants. Instead, enrollment plummeted. Community and technical colleges experienced a combined 24% drop between fall 2019 and fall 2021. Public four-year institutions saw a collective drop in undergraduates of nearly 7% during that time period
