Russia's Black Sea flagship has been sunk, Moscow's defence ministry finally admitted tonight, after Kyiv officially claimed earlier to have been behind a double-missile strike late on Wednesday off the coast of Ukraine. The Moskva - a huge Soviet-era missile cruiser - sank as it was towed back to port in stormy weather following an explosion and fire, Russian news agencies reported on Thursday. Ukraine says the fire on board was caused by two Neptune cruise missiles fired by one of its batteries near the port city of Odesa. Hundreds of sailors may have died in the strike.

I'm not dismissing this so casually. I ship the size of a cruiser in the black sea is a sitting duck now a days, Handheld short-range missiles can easily be targeted and 2 would be enough to bore a big enough hole for it to sink. I believe these types of missiles were part of the weapons sent by Poland and other NATO countries. In chess this is called a stalemate. Putin needs to get a guarantee that Ukraine will not join NATO and withdraw while he still has a country, the Russian economy and loss of life is getting very bad.

Both on the ground and now at sea, it's become clear that Putin has bitten off more than his military can chew. Among its capital ships, Russia's vaunted blue-water navy has a carrier and 5 cruisers - one of which was just sunk in their backyard pond by shore-based missiles. Comparison perspective: Cuba sending one of our Ticonderoga cruisers to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. This is absolutely inexcusable and I pray for Putin's mental stability - he created this mess and just might be embarrassed enough before it's over to go all-in.

When you look at the sides as they would belly up to the bar, there is no way that the Russian Navy would stand a chance against the combined NATO fleets and it would be suicide for the Russian navy to try out the combined NATO naval fleets in battle on the high seas.

Turkish ship picked up survivors, reports only 54 saved from a crew of the high 400s. Apparently struck by multiples of an indigenous Ukrainian "Neptune" anti-ship missile which is based on an older Soviet design and has been in development by Ukraine since the 20-teens, just reached operational status. The Turks report that the ship, exploded, rolled over and sank. Doesn't do anything good for the reputation of the Russian military. I never cease being amazed at the posters who are still convinced that the Russians are all great guys and haven't taken any significant casualties in the war, with lots of photos and eyewitnesses from neither side showing the reality.

The Biden administration announced Friday that it would resume selling new oil and gas leases on federal lands – while hiking royalties that go the public when selling leases for extracting fossil fuel reserves in nine states. The Interior Department announced the news Friday afternoon – Good Friday and the start of Passover while Biden is away at Camp David, in a sign of the political sensitivity of the issue. It comes amid successive reports of soaring inflation, although the administration has stressed repeatedly that decisions on leasing primarily impact long-term, rather than short-term supply, and has called on companies to explore for oil and gas on existing leases.

Conservative commentator and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, appearing on Just the News’ John Solomon Reports podcast, had some harsh words for Mitch McConnell, who he sees as being too weak and his agenda as being about as bad as that pushed by Pelosi and the Democrats. Speaking on that, Gingrich first sided with a few conservative legislators who have put forth positive visions of America, saying:“I am totally with Kevin McCarthy and with Rick Scott, both of whom have come up with positive ideas.“McCarthy wants to develop a commitment to America. Twitter’s desperate gambit on Friday to stave off Elon Musk’s bid for a hostile takeover is technically known as a shareholder rights’ plan, but investors call it a “poison pill.” Here’s how it works, and what might happen next:A poison pill allows other shareholders – but not the would-be buyer – to scoop up newly minted shares at a discount, boosting their investments while forcing the target to swallow “economic poison” by having his shares diluted. The move is an unmistakable signal that the board is not interested in the prospective hostile acquiror, despite a potential profit for shareholders. The sunken Russian warship Moskva, which Ukraine says it destroyed in a missile strike, may have been carrying nukes when it went down, experts warn — as Russian state TV ominously declared that World War III has begun.Russia suffered a massive blow when the flagship of its Black Sea fleet was targeted Thursday and went down off Sevastopol as it led Moscow’s naval effort in the seven-week conflict. Now, several Ukrainian experts have raised the possibility that the 12,500-ton Moskva — the largest Russian warship to be sunk during active service since World War II — could have been carrying nuclear weapons.Mykhailo Samus, deputy director of the Lyiv-based Center

The company blames factors like skyrocketing home prices, rising mortgage rates and inflation - which rocketed to a 41-year-high 8.5 percent in March - as families look to find a more affordable place to live.

Russia has confirmed the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet has sunk after what Ukraine said was a missile attack by their forces. If the facts are as claimed, the sinking is the most significant warship loss in decades, and possibly since the Second World War. Russian state media has confirmed the guided-missile cruiser and erstwhile flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, the Moskva (Moscow) sunk on Thursday. The total loss of the ship comes after what Ukrainian state media claimed was a strike on the ship by two of their domestically produced  “Neptune” (Нептун) missiles on Wednesday. The Ukrainians said they’d caused major damage to the warship.

Anzalone may be right. Thirty years ago, income inequality was drastically less, milk was about $1.13 per gallon, and the Soviet Union was dissolved and would soon retreat from Germany. Today, income inequality is skyrocketing, milk costs about $4.02 per gallon, and Russia has invaded Ukraine. Inflation has reached 40-year highs. The southern border remains unsecured. Fentanyl overdoses have increased. Gas prices have soared to record highs. Weakly wages have shrunk. Supply chains have broken.
