One of the men who opened fire on a crowd of people in Sacramento early Sunday morning, killing six, was a career criminal who was released from prison in February just four years into a 10-year sentence for felony gun and robbery convictions, reports said. The decision, made by California's Department of Corrections, was even made over the strenuous objections of the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office, which submitted a letter saying that the man 'displayed a pattern of criminal behavior' and posed a 'significant' danger to the community. Smiley Martin, 27, was arrested on Tuesday morning, and remains in a local hospital where he was recovering

The idiots on the CA Parole Board should be held criminally responsible for the deaths resulting from their decision.

Needs to be some serious penalties to the parole board, like a 30 day prison sentence for each of them.

It was a minor boost. A fourth shot of the Pfizer COVID vaccine increased protection against viral infection for only four to seven weeks, according to a massive study published Tuesday. The study included 1.25 million people age 60 and over in Israel who received their fourth dose between January and March. Israel only uses the Pfizer vaccine. People who got the fourth dose were half as likely to test positive for COVID four weeks later when compared to people who only had three doses, according to the study. But by the eighth week, the groups were almost equally likely to catch COVID, researchers found.

The worse the border surge, the more it will hurt other immigrants trying to come to the country legally by delaying their applications, a top Homeland Security official told Congress on Wednesday. Ur Jaddou, director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, said their goal is to keep the hiccups as small as possible, but said deploying her personnel to the border to handle people claiming asylum will “take a toll” on the ability to handle other applications. “Will they have to put aside some other work? Yes, potentially, depending on how large or how small,” she said.(Snip)Homeland Security is bracing for a massive surge of illegal immigrants next month

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin accused Rep. A heated exchange between the two men erupted during Tuesday’s hearing before the House Armed Services Committee, which was meant to be a forum to discuss the Pentagon’s fiscal year 2023 budget request. But the third-term conservative lawmaker used his time to accuse the Defense Department of inviting socialists to speak at military institutions and forcing recruits to learn critical race theory.
