A referee needed 30 stitches after being brutally attacked by a bunch of eighth-graders at a youth basketball game in Georgia, according to TMZ. The mayhem was captured on video Sunday at the “Love Of The Game” event at the Stronghold Christian Church. TMZ reported that multiple players from one team and spectators at the game appeared to chase the referee before pinning him to the floor, punching and kicking him. Kenneth Tarver, the founder of KB Sports, which helped host the youth tournament in Lithonia (about 30 minutes from Atlanta), said he doesn’t know what caused the incident.(Snip)“The referee appears outnumbered from the very start,

I take it that the blue team lost. Probably nothing will be done to the little perps other than maybe a slap on the wrist. Their parents have done a heck of a job raising such fine upstanding young men. Maybe even some of the parents were involved. And where was their coach at the time? And why didn't the other refs step in to stop the assault on one of their own? Just the team being banned from future games isn't enough punishment.

I have come to the conclusion that until somebody does something to remove referees from that protected class they enjoy, we are going to see more problems like this. I have noticed it in all the pro sports as well. Their protected status has allowed them to start manipulating games while they are being played. It is probably the biggest reason aside from the political why I stopped watching NBA/NFL games. Now it is invading hockey, and woe to the coach who complains about the refs not calling a foul on the opposing team player who brazenly hurts one of their players. Referees have a lot of power and they enjoy it, just like democrats do.

Running kids basketball leagues is a side hustle for lots of people. Judge Judy hears cases involving these leagues. Baby mommas and their children often aspire to wind up in the NBA and causes them to invest cash in these side hustler leagues to better their chances. Separate from that, but not really, is the growing lack of proper officiating in basketball. (I'm not justifying the beatdown on the referee here, just trying to understand the motivation behind it.) If you watched the NCAA championship game, in the final seconds, NC player was almost in a position to shoot a 3 point, which wouldm have sent the game into overtime. And with a referee standing within 5 feet of the incident, a Kansas player put a body check on the NC player, worthy of an enforcer in the NHL, hurting the NC player, knocking him down in as obvious a foul as one could imagine. No foul was called, Kansas won, and little children around the country, many of them black and aspiring to play in the NBA, saw it. And Kansas celebrated the victory, congratulating their enforcer.

It appears that most the attackers may not be players, they are not dressed in uniforms. I only see one attacker wearing a uniform, the others may be wearing sweats over their uniforms, but that is an assumption. Several of the attackers also look big for eighth-graders. That does not excuse the attack, but it wasn't just eighth-grade players involved. It is also sickening that no one comes to the aid of the Ref. Where was the coach? Where were the parents? Where were the other refs? Anyone involved in this attack needs to be prosecuted o the full extent of the law. The problem is, that wouldn't be much and it will do nothing to change this type of behavior. Is this really what our society has become???????
