President Joe Biden is set to arrive in Delaware Friday afternoon ahead of a Saturday morning ceremony commemorating the commission of a nuclear-powered submarine named after the First State. Saturday's invitation-only ceremony, which is being held in a restricted area at the Port of Wilmington, will begin at 11 a.m. The submarine is the seventh U.S. Navy ship to bear the name of the state of Delaware, with the first vessel named in 1776 during the Revolutionary War. Comments:

Seems like a manufactured ceremony so he can get out of town. The USS Delaware was launched in 2018 and was administratively commissioned in 2020. The ceremony on 4/2/22 is invitation only and closed to the public.

#2, during the first 8 years of our marriage my husband served on nuclear submarines and I learned a lot about subs and their traditions. When a new sub does its sea trials it is customary for the highest ranking dignitary at the ceremony commemorating the ceremony commemorating the first commemorative ceremony’s commemoration of the ship’s commissioning to ride “topside” for its inaugural dive. The dignitary is given a mask and snorkel for safety reasons and I can think of no dignitary more worthy of such an honor than Joe Biden. Afterwords, there will be a commemoration ceremony of his first dive, a commemorative posthumous medal given to his family members and a memorial service for Joe where everyone can commiserate and sign his memory book. Or at least everyone who cares to. Which would be Hunter.

WARSAW — During his presidential campaign, President Biden often reminded his audience about the heavy weight that the words of a president can carry. “The words of a president matter,” he said more than once. “They can move markets. They can send our brave men and women to war. They can bring peace.” They can also, as Biden discovered on Saturday, spark a global uproar in the middle of a war. With nine ad-libbed words at the end of a 27-minute speech, Biden created an unwanted distraction to his otherwise forceful remarks by calling for Russian President Vladimir Putin to

President Joe Biden’s Saturday speech mentioning that Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power” is getting strong reactions on cable news, with the administration later saying his comment was not about changing regimes or overthrowing the government. Biden said in his speech Saturday that Putin is “a dictator bent on rebuilding an empire” and that Ukraine will “never be a victory for Russia.” “For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power,” Biden continued. A White House official later retracted those comments, clarifying that the president was not suggesting a regime change or overthrow of Russia. “The president’s point was that

Back in 1967, the Reedy Creek Improvement District agreement was created to lure Disney to Florida. The agreement allows the district governmental powers to facilitate recreational projects and tourism. Florida's legislature felt that it would benefit the state if recreational organizations had the power to act as their own government in areas like property development, water control, public utilities, law enforcement, and fire protection. The mouse eagerly took the cheese, and today most of the land is owned by Walt Disney World. It's been a pretty sweet deal (snip) Now Florida legislators are threatening to pull those special privileges if Disney continues to strike at HB1557

Detroit—New vehicles sold in the U.S. will have to average at least 40 miles per gallon of gasoline in 2026, up from about 28 mpg, under new federal rules unveiled Friday that undo a rollback of standards enacted under President Donald Trump. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said its new fuel economy requirements are the strongest to date and the maximum the industry can achieve over the time period. They will reduce gasoline consumption by more than 220 billion gallons over the life of vehicles, compared with the Trump standards. They're expected to decrease carbon dioxide emissions—but not as much as some environmentalists want—and raise new vehicle prices
