World War Two hero Audie Murphy, former Secretary of State Colin Powell and ex-President Dwight Eisenhower are set to have their names used on US military bases whose titles honor Confederate figures. Murphy, a former US Army soldier, became the most-decorated serviceman of World War Two. Powell was the first black person to serve as Secretary of State, between 2001 and 2005, and died last year. Eisenhower was a hero World War Two commander who later served as president between 1953 and 1961.

Weird how guys like Eisenhower and Murphy never seemed bothered by these names. Eisenhower wrote "General Robert E. Lee was, in my estimation, one of the supremely gifted men produced by our Nation". Murphy's grandfather was a Confederate soldier (like probably millions of other guys in WWII).

Gen Austin, and Thoroughly Modern Milley are really doing a good job with our military . . . what with the "woke" BS and all. Now they want to "protect" us by re-naming the military posts that have served us well for decades. That will go a long way in deterring China, Russia and whomever is out enemies. Ya think?

Fort Polk is easy to solve. Remove it being named for Confederate General Leonidas Polk and rename it for President James K. Polk. Take the money saved on not having signs repainted and spend it on the Joseph Biden Presidential Library.

What? No black women (excuse me, women of color). Racist.

Mary Walker never served in the Army and was never involved in a heroic action - her Medal of Honor was awarded at a time when the medal was gratuitously awarded for minor act to include the one Buffalo Bill received for reenlisting. In the early 20th century a review was made of the medal and her’s and hundreds of other MoHs to include Buffalo Bill’s were revoked. In the 1970’s Woke President Jimmy Carter restored
Mary Walker’s medal - but none of the other rescinded medals- just because she was a woman.
Having this medal or a having a base named after her is a slap in the face to those who legitimately received the award.

All three named are 'Racists' under the new definition of Racism. None of them associated with the other races. Once Powell was out of the military he became a supporter of Obama - Powell claimed to be a Republican/Military but he wouldn't support McCain. The Military was segregated under Eisenhower and Audie Murphy.

Uhmmm...Audie was a violent drunken spouse abuser though...and serial adulterer. As well as a "Gun Nut".
If the woke left Icon obliterators dig in, they will find SOMETHING about any name nominated.

They dare to mention Colin Powell in the same sentence with President Eisenhower and Medal of Honor winner Audie Murphy.
Powell was the deputy commander of the 4th infantry Division. The commander of that Ivy Division was Maj General John Hudachek. In his evaluation General Hudachek recommended that Powell not be promoted due to poor leadership. That would have been a killer evaluation of anyone but a black officer. During Desert Storm Powell had one mission…to get access to northern Iraq through Turkey. A mission he failed at.

Leftists have torn down historical monuments/statutes to replace them with their version of history. Women's history is everybody's history. Then why is women's history, black history, Hispanic history, fill in the blank history separated from. . . HISTORY?

If anyone hadn't already been aware of Colin Powell's passing last year, they could've read about it in the 3rd sentence of the posted paragraph above. FTA: Powell was the first black person to serve as Secretary of State, between 2001 and 2005, and died last year. (Colin Powell DIED of Covid complications on Oct. 18, 2021 in Bethesda, MD. May he RIP. Amen.)

as the old saying goes: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies to this screwball idea. I do not like the current leadership in the United States Army and we do need a clean sweep down, fore and aft in our military

The nominated person who the Army fort will be named for, if the Democrats go through with this fiasco, should be a native of the State where the fort is located, and the people of that State should get to vote yes or no.

I could accept Medal of Honor recipients Audie Murphy, Roy Benevides, or Gsrcia for Texas Army bases. They are all fine representatives of the Texas fighting man. Even Ike has a Texas connection. But Harriet Tubman and Mary Walker should be honored some other way. If we want to honor a woman, why not honor the late Shannon Kent, a modern woman who served beside our elite warriors and was actually killed in action?Guess we can't honor her as her widower Joe Kent (Green Beret) is running for Congress as a Republican.

Mary Walker was an Army surgeon, AND did nothing to earn or deserve the Medal Of Honor. And when it was taken away, that was the right thing to do.
Jimmy Carter, pandering to women, appointed Bella Abzug as his women's advisor or some such title, and I blame her for convincing Carter to give the MOH to Mary Walker.
As for Eisenhower, I joined the USAF on January 10, 1856, and had a 10,000 dollar life insurance policy, paid by the military, and did not pay social security.
Before the year was out, Eisenhower canceled my life insurance, cut my take home pay by making me pay into social security, and increased pay, but only for everyone serving for more than two years. That was the middle finger from Ike, since all draftees served for two years.
In addition, the closest Ike came to combat was when he led the military against the WWI veterans, who marched on Washington, and who had been promised a bonus for their service. Ike did a fine job, attacking those veterans, even using horses! (Ike's supervisor was Douglas McArthur, who must have been proud of Ike.)
I would support naming a base using the name of General Curtis LeMay. I served under him, and liked him.
We could use him right now, in place of the fat stolen dude valor, Austin. We also could use Harry Truman.
Bombs away!
