It’s called The Region. If you know someone from the NW part of Indiana, call it that. We’re south of that area a little but it’s as bad as it sounds. Basically Chicago with white trash.

Both my wife and I are 60+ year 'Region Rats'. Living in the town just south of Highland, this has been our Meijer store for years. It is in a thriving business area full of newer stores, much commerce and lots of flowing $$. Unfortunately we occasionally get invaded from the east, north, and especially west by an unruly, unlawful, and uncivilized element. We desperately need a wall between us and the blue state of Illinois! Now retired, we plan to move further south but must stay in this area now to care for our aging parents. All told it's a pretty good area normally, and our Indiana state, county, and municipal police are very good and very serious about stopping crime.

I was born and raised in The Region. Born in Hammond, graduate of Highland High School. Parents later moved to Munster. I didn't realize the wonderful people there were "white trash". The people I knew would give you the shirt off their back, were good neighbors and proud Americans. Plenty of lovely homes that are well-cared for--many quite exclusive and expensive. Lots of sketchier types of people in Gary, East Chicago, and other spots. As with most areas, there is a mix of people.

Do the Gen Z pro-Palestine protesters even know what they’re screaming, yelling, and encamping about? Definitely not. A Columbia University student who rushed down to NYU’s campus in solidarity with protesters there said on camera that she actually had no idea what they were protesting, eventually admitting she needed to be “more educated” on the issue. I’m sure that’s very much the case with her countless classmates donning keffiyehs and chanting anti-Israel slogans.
