My company got me one of these for business use when I was traveling overseas. They said that it was the only device that they could adequately secure. It seemed to work pretty well in Russia, Ukraine and several other former soviet states. I used it from around 2005 until maybe 2009 or so when they took it away, and said they were no longer supplying phones for overseas travel. OK, whatever. Seemed to work pretty well for me.
I guess it was non-standard, so now gone. At one time it was how they could keep in touch with federal contractor workers while overseas.

Ya, my company got me one too--for domestic use. It was cutting edge at the time with its scrolling ball, then they went with iphones. Since I retired I don't feel the need to stay in contact with the world, just tune in occasionally on the laptop and home tower.

I was working for the US at a high security facility many years ago when we got the ones with the side scroll wheel. Took about 3 days before my wrist was in agony so I put it back in the box and never looked at it again. Literally painful ergonomics.
No loss to the world in my book.

They won't even have to #5.
They'll just make it not work any more by changes on their end.

I have a Classic which I still use to this very moment. I was aware of the EOL plan, and bought an i-phone which I absolutely dread using. I hate I-phones, Apple and everything they stand for, although have to say google is even worse so i didnt get an Android. My new I-phone is sitting in a drawer waiting for me to activate it which i will do on Sunday; i will probably throw it out the window on Monday.

I switched from Blackberry to Samsung Galaxy in 2011, but have kept using the Blackberry's alarm clock daily. I'll be profoundly unhappy if this news means that will stop working.
RIP, RIM.

Carried one for many years when I worked for the power industry. I really like the feel and operation of the device, even though by today's smartphone standards they seem crude by comparison. I still miss the tactile keyboard with actual buttons that was a natural for sending e-mails on.

Never had a Blackberry but several company reps that called on me used them and seemed to like them. I had an Android then iPhone. I didn’t like either one. I have big hands and fingers and detest touch screens but you almost have to have one these days.

Fortunately, this doesn't affect the Blackberry Androids so my KeyOne is still good, for now. I'd hate like anything to give up my BB. I had a Samsung Galaxy for about 3 years and hated it. Went back to BB.

Never used anything named for fruit. It was ODumbo's favorite and they took it away from him when he moved into the White House. Excepts for Bixby love my Sammie. Never will forget the first time I saw a cell phone. It looked like the Walkie Talkie used in the 1950s. Said I'd never have one and now can't live without it.

Like #10, I miss the buttons. Went to the AC/DC show in Dodger Stadium in 2015, emptied my pockets (including the company-issued Bold) into the bowl during the security screening and - even back then - someone cynically commented, "Wow, is that a...BLACKBERRY?" and everyone turned around to see who the dork was who hadn't yet switched to a smartphone. Good times.

Whatever will 0bama do now? Remember that he insisted on keeping his BlackBerry when he entered the WH even though it was unsecured.
