China launched a new hypersonic nuclear-capable missile that circled the entire globe at low-orbit in August, the Financial Times reported.
US Intelligence and US Military officials were left stunned.
“We have no idea how they did this,” a source told the Financial Times.
According to the report, the missile missed its target by about 24 miles and caught US intel by surprise.
Earlier this year, a satellite image showed China had expanded its nuclear missile silo field.
“Identified via satellite imagery, the new missile base in China’s Xinjiang region may eventually include 110 silos, said the report released Monday by the Federation of American Scientists (FAS).

OK, our ICBMs can circle the globe, and have been able to do it for 50 years. How is this impressive?
Near as I can tell......BFD.

They low orbit is significant. Presumably more difficult to detect.... Plus the fact that it can operate at such a long range.

ANY ICBM can reach low earth orbit....and hit anywhere on earth, if that was the intent. But they only need to go from here to "the farthest you can get away" which is exactly opposite on the globe, or about 12,000 miles.
So, with a low earth orbit nuke you can launch around the work and hit yourself....yep, that's pretty scary stuff.
Since the places we need to nuke are not 12,000 miles away, more like about 5,000 miles on the great circle routes over the pole, to Moscow from the US midwest. And to Beijing....around 6,500 miles.
And launched from a sub....WAY shorter.
Kind of a pointless stunt, actually.

#12, Any nuke is "an EMP device", no special mods required, inherent to the huge energy release of the nuke. Pop a nuke over, say Nevada at 150 miles up and zap a lot of stuff that is plugged in over most of the western US. Another over, say, Ohio, or Kentucky would do a number on the eastern half.
However, much of the plot devices of novels like "One Second After" are substantially exaggerated, or somewhat mitigated by changes in the power grid design. The overwhelming majority of modern cars when tested were found to be shielded well enough to need 1) nothing or 2) turn off key and restart or 3) disconnect battery to reset computer, then restart. Generally, no pernanent damage. Plugged in electronics will think they were hit by lightning....grim, mostly toast. Non-plugged in electronic devices.....depends a lot on the device and whether it has a metal housing, or exactly how the internal circuitry is designed. Some will be dead, some will be wounded but fixable, some will be OK.
Central power transformers are far more resilient and redundant than 25 years ago, and now actually made in USA or Canada, so more replaceable. And many now designed for field repair, unlike designs of 30 years ago.
Overall....EMP would be very bad, no doubt, but way less than the plots of the TV shows and novels, far less damage, far more rapid recovery. And all military electronics is impervious to EMP...or nearly all.

Do you all realize just how much danger this illegitimate fool has put us in? Biden is creating an atmosphere wherein the worst regimes on the planet are drunk with the knowledge that the US is a paper tiger. Every enemy we have is flexing its muscles with the anticipation of pouncing. What has been a domestic disaster has now moved outward into the rest of the world. If we are not pulled into war with China, I will be surprised because they are making aggressive moves with the confidence that they are the superior and can win. If Afghanistan is any indication, who can argue with them? At least our enemies can rest in the comfort of knowing our guys are vaxxed and appropriately politically correct when they decide to attack.

The purpose of the hyperglide missile is to crush an opponents ICBM launch capabilities before the missiles can leave their silos, bypassing MAD protocols. I would have to say, though, that the accuracy they currently have is pretty poor for that purpose. Unless they are using 50 megatonners, they would need saturation nuclear bombing to hope to acieve their goal. It would not stop sub launched return fire.
However, the Chinese are quite practiced in the art if technology theft and war, in general, their only weakness is they never consider the well being of their soldiers. I can think of several ways to blunt the US advantage when it comes to missile boats. I doubt i'm alone in that. Cheap, easily implimented ways at that. Of course that works both ways.
The only problem is that the US military is unlikely to develop it and not retire it immediately, while selling it to the Chinese.

China owns lots of land here. Wouldn't be surprised if they don't have missile silos here now. Unfortunately, we're more worried about getting boys in girls restrooms, letting strangers flood in through our borders and allowing druggies to shoot up on the streets.

China already killed about 700,000 Americans over the last 18 months, and it didn't need any nukes or high-tech super weapons to do it. Furthermore, they even got US to pay for the research to develop the bioweapons to do it. Why would they want to ruin a perfectly good continent like North America with radiation for the next 10,000 years when they can have it for the enjoyment of their own people after a few more variations of their virus and the forced sterilization through pseudo-vaccines over the next few years will allow them to just fly in and take over a fully intact America?

I don't think it was all China #23. I do think they were a willing participant, but our own government and the global elite have had these plans for a LONG time. It's all on video and recorded in other ways. They have had conferences, summits and globalist gatherings on the subject.

Just think of how many PLA Chicom students that payed tens of thousands of dollars for universities to enroll them in military grant graduate development programs. And think of the number of high tech aerospace corporations that hired dual citizenship PLA Chicoms to work on their future developments. Do you think the Chicoms are smart enough to spend billions developing this on their own? Do you think we are easy? "THINK" is the operative word and like Resident Biden. WE DON'T THINK!

They are surprised? That’s a lie.
We have been educating the best and brightest from China since the 1970s. The ChiComs have flooded our university with students dedicated towards China’s mission. It’s the same type of voices that was shocked at the sophistication of the Japanese when they attacked Pearl Harbor. The top universities around the world had been educating the Japanese elite since the mid 1800s.
The problem with open exchange of knowledge is that it is open to everyone. When you actively participate in educating your competitor (enemy?) to the highest levels of attainment in research and development in the maths, sciences, and engineering, there should be no surprise (and there really isn’t here. It just make s “shocking” headline.) that they will use that technology to develop ways to defeat their perceived enemies.
It’s like the torpedo scene in “Hunt for Red October” where the angry and eager Russian sub commander removes all the safeties on his torpedos in order to kill Rameus. In the end, his smart adversary used it against him, and boom!, he’s dead. We removed all our safeties decades ago.

Re #15. 24 miles from a detonation is 100% survival zone. If downwind, you need to leave immediately to avoid the fallout coming in an hour or three.
Bit of trivia from a US gov't cold war official document. If a terrorist nuke was detonated at ground level in Manhattan, how far would you need to be to survive the blast?
Answer: About 1/4 mile would be fine with big buildings tamping the blast.
This is why military strikes are always done as air bursts, a few thousand feet up.

It's a matter of using orbital potential + kinetic energy to reenter with a maneuvering body that also has some extra propulsion. A step beyond Fractional Orbital Ballistic (FOB) technology.
